Audience and purpose

The target audience for this animation is children and teenagers.

The language is simple enough for children yet not so simple as to sound patronising to teenagers.

An additional audience could also be parents. The animation could persuade them to incorporate healthier foods into their kids’ diet to improve their lifestyle.

The purpose if to encourage them to incorporate some healthy foods into their diet so that it can become a habit for them.

My purpose in this animation

My purpose for creating this animation is to help the charity ‘Life and Health’ promote a message for a healthy lifestyle choice.

This animation will be placed on the homepage of their website where it can be easily seen/accessed and the message can be put across.

Alternative design ideas

I could have had a voice over to the animation but I decided against it because it would be distracting and difficult for the viewer to keep up with the audio loop.

I could have also had a real life image of Jessica Ennis but decided that an animated image was a more enjoyable option for a child/teenager.

Design justification

I designed this animation using plenty of detail to compensate for the lack of movement because of this only being a storyboard and not the actual animation. I also included pictures of most of my assets instead of just describing them to give a visual representation and, again, to add detail.

How it fulfils the purpose

My design fulfils the purpose of the animation because the message being sent out by it is a promotion to healthy living which is the overall point of the animation.

Each asset helps this because they are both positively and negatively viewed assets (e.g the positive connotation of vegetables and the negative connotation of smoking.) The assets help to inform the viewer that the positive assets are just habitual as the negative ones, and therefore an easy thing to do.

Meeting needs

The animation meets the needs of children and teenagers because of the simplistic language and cartoon images. Many teenagers grew up watching cartoons and would be interested in watching an animation that is similar the them.

The children are attracted by the bright colours.
