1 Estimated construction time 7m2 per man hour(ready for finishing).
2 Allow 10 mm plus the board thickness from the face of the background to the face of the lining to determine lining dimension at door/window reveals and soffits (this allowance may need to be increased if background is badly out of line).
3 Install the plasterboard ceiling, erect any abutting partitions and fill any joints in the masonry
background before commencing dry lining to thewalls.
4 Make provision for sealing the dry lining cavity of specified walls (normally internal face of external walls). The recommended method is to apply a fillet of RhinoLite around the perimeter of the wall and
any surface penetrations and openings, together witha continuous band of Rhinolite at the base.
5 Install services, such as pipes and cables, before drylining.
6 Consider skirting fixing - mechanical or using Silicone Sealant (the provision of a continuous band of
Rhinolite at the base provides a ground for mechanicalfixing).
7 Seal any small gaps at base of skirting, with Silicone Sealant.
8 Consider the provision of a flexible seal between suspended timber floors and the masonry wall.
9 Form vertical cavity barriers, using a continuous line of dabs, where specified in long runs of lining.
10 Install Control Joints, where specified.
11 Allow the lining to bridge any structural columns - do not locate dabs on the column.

1. Rhinoboard can be applied vertically or
horizontally.
2. Cut Rhinoboard to size by using a utility knife.
Score face side of board, snap and cut the back.
3. Allow a 10 mm clearance between bottom of
Rhinoboard and floor.
4. In the horizontal and vertical application of
Rhinoboard ensure that all joints are staggered
and do not occur in a straight line.
5. Ensure that joints do not occur parallel with the
side of door frames or openings but are placed
towards the centre of these frames and
openings.
6. In double layer application both layers are clad
vertically with all joints staggered.
7. Fix Rhinoboard using a Drywall screw-driver
and screws at 220 mm centres.
8. The screwhead should be driven slightly below
the face of the board but not deep enough to
break the paper.
9. Unless specifically required the Rhinoboard
should not be fixed to the floor or ceiling
UltraSTEEL™ tracks.
CHECKLIST
1. Check that the Rhinoboard is correctly fastened
to the UltraSTEEL™ studs.
2. Check that the screws are not proud.
3. Check that screws are at least 9 mm from edges
and at most 13mm.
4. Check that door frames etc. are still level and
plumb.
5. Check that Rhinoboard surfaces have not been
damaged and that all joints are correctly butted
and staggered.

1. Cutting
The mat should be cut cleanly using a sharp
knife and in the case of Rhinoflam, tin snips is also
required to cut the wire. First cut and remove the
wire then cut the fibre with a knife.
2. Storage
The rolls should be left in the pack until required
and should ideally be stored under cover. If
stored on site, rolls should be raised off the
ground and covered completely with waterproof
sheeting.
The polythene packaging provides protection
only against short-term and accidental exposure.
3. Fixing
The insulation should be cut to size and sus-
pended within the partition so that it makes contact
with the metal studs, the floor and ceiling chan-
nels.
The insulation should be continuously supported
within the wall using the methods shown
opposite.

1. Pictures, Calendars, etc.
Use either a ‘stick-on’ type of picture hanger or the
nail and hook type as per detail. Ensure that the
nail is driven downwards into the Rhinoboard at an
angle of approx. 200.
2. Mirrors, Ornaments, etc.
Use a molly bolt type of fastener, which is fitted
onto the Rhinoboard in any position.
3. Shelves
Fix through the Rhinoboard into the UltraSTEEL™

Levels of GypWall Drywall Finish
1. SCOPE
This is a recommended specification that describesvarious levels of finish for drywall systems prior tothe application of the final decoration. Each level isintended to supply the required surface finish forthe application of the drywall and should be usedto provide the most cost-effective alternative.
2. TERMINOLOGY
The following definitions are used in this docu-ment.
Accessories: Metal or plastic corner beads, trim ormouldings used to protect or conceal corners, edges or abutments.
Critical Lighting: Strong side lighting from win-dows, surface mounted lights or downlighters.
Oil Based Plaster Primer: A paint formulated to sta-bilize and equalize the suction difference betweenRhinoboard surface paper and the RhinoGlide com-pound used to finish joints angles, screw heads andaccessories. To be used on drywall prior to decora-tion.
Skim coat: A thin coat of plaster over the entirewall surface to fill any imperfections in the jointwork, smooth the paper texture, and provide acompletely uniform finishing surface. A skim coatof RhinoLite can be used as an alternative tojointing.
Spotting: To cover screw heads with jointingcompound.
3. LEVEL OF FINISH
The following levels of finish are proposed as aguide for specific final decoration. Each level willbe illustrated with an example.
LEVEL 1
No jointing or finishing at all.
This level of finish may be useful in temporaryconstructions.
LEVEL 2
All joints shall have the Rhinotape embedded inRhinoGlide jointing compound. Surface shall befree of excess jointing compound but tool marksand ridges are acceptable.
Frequently used in plenum areas above ceilings andin areas that are generally concealed.
LEVEL 3
All joints, angles and accessories shall have one coatof RhinoGlide jointing compound applied. All screwheads to be spotted. Surface shall be free of excessjointing compound but tool marks and ridges areacceptable.
This finish is suitable where moisture resistantboard is used as a substrate for tiling and may beused in garages or warehouse storage where sur-face appearance is not of primary importance.
LEVEL 4
All joints, angles and accessories shall have two separate coats of RhinoGlide jointing compoundapplied. All screw heads to be spotted. All jointingcompound shall be smooth and free of tool marksand ridges. All areas receive a coat of oil basedPlaster Primer before finishing.
This level is suitable for areas which are to receiveheavy or medium textured paint finishes, or whereheavy grade wallcoverings are to be applied.Where lightweight vinyls are to be used all jointsetc should be carefully sanded to provide asmoother surface.
LEVEL 5
A 3mm skim coat of RhinoLite plaster/Cretestoneplaster shall be applied to the entire surface of thedrywall. The surface shall be completely smoothand free of any marks and surface blemishes. Theentire surface of the drywall shall receive a coat ofoil based plaster primer before final decoration.
This level should be used where gloss, semi-gloss orMatt non-textured paints are specified. Any drywallthat is subjected to critical lighting must be finishedto this level.
4. COMMENTS
Wall and ceiling areas abutting window mullions orskylights, long hallways, or atriums with large sur-face areas flooded with artificial or natural lightare a few examples of critical lighting. Critical light-ing (especially side-lighting) may reveal even minor surface imperfections. Light striking the surfaceobliquely, at a very slight angle, greatly exagger-ates surface irregularities. If critical lighting can notbe avoided, the effects can be minimized by skimcoating the entire wall or by decorating the surfacewith medium or heavy textures (paint or vinyls). The use of drapes and/or blinds can also be used tosoften shadows. It is also important to rememberthat during the construction phase of a buildingthe lighting is often not fully functional and theappearance of the drywall could vary considerablyonce this is switched on.
In general smooth non-textured finishes highlightsurface defects and textures help to hide minorimperfections.
NOTE: All Drywall partition systems should be100% finished by the Drywall installer. It shouldnot be left up to contractor applying the final dec-oration to rectify and surface blemishes or marks. All joints should be completely finished.

NB: Do not proceed with jointing if anyfaults remain from the previous stage oferection (Refer to data sheet for RhinoDrywall Wallboard Cladding Application).
1. Check board surface. Any repairs and/or joints wider than 5mm should be prefilled with RhinoGlide. Pull off any loose paper and retape where core is exposed.
2. Apply self-adhesive RhinoTape over the centre of the joint.
3. Apply 1st layer of RhinoGlide using a 125 mm taping knife (putty knife). Clean off edges. Allow to set.
4. Apply 2nd layer of RhinoGlide using a300 mm trowel. Clean off edges and allow to set.
5. A butt joint can be taped in the normal way using RhinoGlide. (As No.2 & 3). When set, apply the 2nd layer of RhinoGlide to each side of the tape with a 300 mm trowel. Clean off the outside edges. When set, apply the 3rd layer over the centre of the joint and allow to dry.
6. Apply RhinoTape to internal corner ensuring that the tape is evenly spaced either side. Apply a coat of RhinoGlide to one side using a 125 mm taping knife. Allow one side to set before beginning the other side.
7. To fit corner bead onto the external corner, apply a layer of RhinoGlide to each side of the corner bead. Press the corner bead firmly into postion. Using a 125 mm taping knife apply bead. When set apply a second layer using a 250 mm trowel. Clean off the outside edges
8. Screws can be flushed using a 125 mm taping knife. Apply a small amount of RhinoGlide over the screw head in one direction and wipe in a right angle direction. Apply 2nd coat in the same way.Note: Allow to set between each coat.
9. A control joint is fitted between brickwork and drywall where they are in the same line or as an expansion joint on a long continuous GypWall Drywall, e.g. walls longer than 10 m should have a control joint every 5 m. Note that a full height door frame acts as a control joint. Allow 1 cm gap between Rhinoboard and any brickwork abutment.
10. When all final coats are set, sand lightly to a smooth level finish using a fine grit sand paper (100 grit). Do not oversand.
NB (1): In points 2-9 it must be rememberedto clean off all excess RhinoGlide and feath-er out.
NB (2): Using a damp cloth remove all powderfrom the joint and surface of board prior to dec-oration.
DECORATION
A good quality plaster primer must be used onthe entire surface.
CHECK LIST
1. Make sure that the RhinoGlide is allowed to set thoroughly between coats.
2. Check that the screws and metal trims are completely covered with compound.
3. Check that all finished joints are smooth and dry for decoration.
4. Check surface generally for smoothness and possible unfinished work.

CALCULATION OF QUANTITIES
1. UltraSTEEL™ Track:Length of wall x 2 = Total length of track.Total length of track divided by 3 = No. of lengths of track.Standard width: 51 or 63,5 mm. Length: 3 000 mm
2. UltraSTEEL™ Studs:Length of wall in metres divided by 0,6 =Number of studs. Add 2 extra studs for each corner and 1 extra stud for each T-junction, wall starter and doorframe.Length of stud = ceiling height.Standard lengths = 2 100 - 3 600 (300 mm increments).Standard widths = 51 or 63,5 mm
3. Board:12,5mm taper-edge (specify Standard or Firestop).For single cladding.Length of wall divided by 1,2 - Bring to near-est whole number x 2 = Number of boards.Length of board = ceiling height.Standard length = 2 700 - 3 600 (300 mm increments).
Note: 6,4 mm and 9,5 mm Rhinoboard is not suit-able for Drywall Cladding.
4. Fixing and Finishing:For every 120 m2 of Board you will require:a) Screws: 2 000 x 25 mmb) RhinoTape: 3 x 45 m rollsc) RhinoGlide: 3 x 20 kg bags.
5. Skirting screws (45 mm long) = number of studs x 2.
6. Gypseal: (two coats where moisture resistant boardis utilised) Can be used on other Boards.Coverage = 7 m2 per litre per coat.
N.B.: Above calculation will provide approximatequantities and does not allow for wastage. (Normally 10% is allowed for wastage).

UltraSTEEL™ drywalling is a non-load bearing interi-
or walling system consisting of single or multiple lay-
ers of Rhinoboard which are screwed onto either side
of the patented UltraSTEEL™ cold rolled galvanised
steel sections. The tapered edged Rhinoboard is then
flush jointed to give a monolithic surface ready to
receive decoration.
All GypWall drywalling systems components are man-ufactured under the SABS ISO 9002 quality manage-ment system.
As the market leader, Gyproc and DONN is at theforefront of developing superior, cost effective solutions for further applications. You only have totake a closer look at our range of high performancesystems to discover just how true this is.
