Ignaz Bsendorer, the son o Viennese master carpenterJakob Bsendorer and his wie Martha, was born in 1794.

At 19, the young Bsendorer commenced his apprentice-ship with a Viennese organ and piano builder. A goodmaster had ound a brilliant student.

Vienna, 1828: Franz Schubert was buried next toBeethoven a year ater the latters death. Beore them, this city on the Danube was already home to Mozart andHaydn. That year, Ignaz Bsendorer requested a businesslicense to start his own piano manuacturing company. He took over his masters actory and began building hisown instruments.

At that time the young Franz Liszt, with his impulsiveplaying technique, wrecked nearly every piano madeavailable to him. Upon the advice o several riends, hetried this with a Bsendorer grandwhich held up to

his playing! At a single blow, the Bsendorer became amas a concert grand. In 1830, the Emperor o Austria named Ig

The increasing demand orpianos led him to consider ounding a new actory. Unortuhe did not live to see this project realized; he died in 1859. HLudwig, born in 1835, took over the company.

His demands or un-compromising quality continue to hold today or all o Bsend-orers employees, particularly in the Wiener Neustadt actory, where Bsendorer pianos have been built since 1973.

At the same time, Bsend-orer is closely connected

to musical culture: or over40 years, up to just beorethe First World War, Bsen-dorer Hall was the mostrequented concert hall orchamber music in Vienna, due to its outstandingacoustics. Over 4500 con-certs took place, by suchluminaries as Anton Ru-

binstein, Franz Liszt, EugendAlbert, Johannes Brahms,Ernst von Dohnny, MaxReger, Arthur Rubinstein,Bla Bartk, Edvard Grieg, Gustav Mahler and RichardStrauss. At the end o the 19th century, Bsendorer pianoswere built or the imperial court, or Empress Elisabeth,Empress Eugenie o France, the emperor o Japan, theczars o Russia and other prominent personalities. Many people say Bsendorers 130 CL model sounds likea grand piano; many think it is the best upright piano in

    the world.

Naturally it benets rom all the expertise o ourcratsmen just as our grand pianos do. By denition ithas all the advantages o an upright piano over a grandpiano: it is smaller and needs less space, it is easier toacquire and is more aordable. The precision installationo the mechanics is designed to deliver optimalplayability and maximum control without loss o powertransmission.

Model 130 CL is a tremendously elegant design and itsproportions are perectly balanced. In other words, it is abeauty.

It is probably the easiest way to share the exclusive,world-amous Bsendorer name.

Those who desire to learn their crat properly shouldwork with the best available tool rom the very

beginning. This is why we at Bsendorer came up withsomething special: the CS series grand pianos.

The nish is less labor-intensive and the design has beenmarginally simplied in order to help students obtain thebest aordable tool. These pianos are available in sizes170, 185, 200 and 214 and by no means all short o ourstandard models technically or sonically.

Owners o a Conservatory Series piano can be entirelycertain they are playing an instrument that oers them

Beauty o sound cannot be measured in centimetres. Our 170 model, the smallest o Bsendorers grand

pianos, is specially designed or smaller living spaceswhich means you can even enjoy the inimitably richsound o a Bsendorer at home. But what does smallmean? Our 170 model weighs 314 kilograms and hasdimensions o 146 x 170 centimeters. A ormidablepresence.

This piano is built by hand using the highest-qualitymaterials. The sound quality in the bass, in particular, andthe range o tonal colours are exceptional or a piano othis size. Its action allows the astest o repetitions and it

has a very precise playing eel.

Our 170 model is traditionally nished in highlypolished black but can also be nished in avariety o veneers including birds eye maple, burr walnut, amboyna, rosewood, pyramidmahogany, pommele or any other desirednish. And the most beautiul thing o all:it is a Bsendorer o grand pianos.

Our 185 model brings worlds together: the world o thehome and the world o public perormance. It creates a

bridge between private space and public space. Why?

Because it can; it is, quite simply, capable o creating thislinkin terms o both construction and perormance. Its dynamic eatures make it ideal or more intimateperormances in ront o a small audience, whilst itssonorous sound is the unmistakable hallmark o amember o the great house o Bsendorer. Music schools love it. Conservatories love it.And who knows? Maybe you will love it too.

Our model 200 has been enormously popular or morethan ty years. By creating it, Bsendorer has produceda piano that clearly longs or its tonal and dynamicanities to come under scrutiny alongside those o itsbig brothers, which is why it is so oten the choiceo proessional teachers at conservatories and musicschools. But its compact size means it is equally at homein a private space.

In playing terms, it has the amous, rich, moving

Bsendorer sound and everything else that makes agenuine Bsendorer what it is: playability, superiorquality workmanship and mechanical design in terms orepetition and stability, and optimal use o materials tocreate the best sound possible and lasting value.

I perceive a Bsendorer to be much more than merely a fne piano, but rather the idealpersonifcation o Viennese musical culture. It is no coincidence that precisely this pianoevolved in the city o Vienna, which has exerted an irresistible attraction to musicalheroes rom time immemorial, even to this very day.

Our salon grand model 214 is happiest demonstrating itsconcert capabilities at perormances in medium-sized

concert halls. This is where its strengths can come to the ore:optimal sound transparency, sheer delight in playing, precision o touch, unsurpassed ullness o sound, dynamic control and a sustained tonal character that willbe warmly applauded.

Salon grands rose in popularity at the start o theBiedermeier period (the style in painting, literatureand urniture rom around 1815 to 1848). During that

era, an important role was played in Viennese musicallie by elegantly urnished salons where the oremostcomposers o their day would present their works.

During the 19th century, salons developedinto exclusive gathering places or Austriasaristocratic and bourgeois society.

Our 214 model is, naturally, also eminentlysuitable or private spaces.

Anyone who has ever encountered its expressive diversityand inimitably rich, moving sound has experiencedsomething very special indeed. Playing this instrument isan upliting eeling; experiencing its musical spectrum isequally so.

Its size and construction allow this piano to produce a

rich palette o sound colours, rom the sotest pianissimoto the loudest ortissimo. Four additional sub-bass keysalso extend the bass range to bottom F.

It is thus no wonder that the model 225is considered the best chamber musicinstrument o its size and is also highly valuedor private use, despite its suitability or theconcert stage.

Our constant contact with the worlds greatest pianistsand most eminent conductors enabled us to draw up a

detailed wish list or the concert grand model 280.We have now made this prole a reality through acombination o many new technical developments andspecial respect or our great musical heritage.

The Bsendorer principle o construction views theentire instrument as a cohesive whole. This is whatallows us to achieve our uniquely rich sound colors andcharacteristic singing timbre, o which our concert grandmodel 280 is living proo.

A new model created or the 21st century, theconcert grand is multi-talented. It can hold itsown against the orces o a large orchestrayet has all the sensitivity required or anaccompanying role in a chamber music setting. In the bass it has a clarity and undamentaltone that no instrument has achieved everbeore.

Our model 290, the Imperial, carries the BsendorerDNA, our heritage in its most pronounced orm.

Historically, the Imperial was the 19th

grand piano modelmade by the Bsendorer company.

Originally built ollowing a suggestion by the composerFerruccio Busoni, the Imperial has 97 keys, hence eightull octaves. The powerul sound o this instrument alsoinspired other composers, including Bartk, Debussy andRavel, to compose special works which can only be playedaithully on the Bsendorer Imperial.

With its powerul soundboard combined with the highpercentage o mountain spruce, its sound is virtuallyorchestral. In the Imperial, the Bsendorer resonancecase principlewhich treats the entire instrumentas a sounding bodycreates an unexcelled powerand touching sonority. The model 290 is the only oneo our standard models to have received an epithetwhen it was rst built around 1900: Imperial (Latinimperare: to order or command).

The Imperials commanding presence in some o theworlds great concert halls sets the standard by which

One o the cornerstones in the development o our newcomputer-controlled grand piano CEUS was a scientic

study conducted at the Vienna University o Technologywhich yielded a remarkable result: it analyzed the variousways in which we perceive a musical interpretationeither as mechanical or human and was able to relate itto the degree o hammer velocity and strike precision. The prime objective o the Bsendorer designersthereore became to design a computer-controlled grandpiano with recording and playback capabilities so nelytuned that it was able to render an interpretation o aperormance, reproducing it with its entire authenticdepth o eeling.

The dynamic scales o the key movements are renderedabsolutely authentically in all ranges rom pianissimoto ortissimo. For the rst time, the release o thekey and consequently the setting o the damper hasbecome perectly recordable and reproduceable; allpedal movements are now able to be seen as they wereoriginally perormed.

CEUSs sampling precision is a actor o 150 (!) timesbetter than that o comparable systems. We perorm
