Dr. Vince Bertram, President/ CEO Project Lead the Way vis- ited the high school campus’ new STEM Center Monday Oc- tober 6. He also toured classes at Jimmy Brown Elementary School. PLTW students K-12 had the opportunity to showcase their programs to the Star City Area Chamber of Commerce, Wednesday, October 9 at the new STEM Center. Principal Mike Walker, along with Dani- elle Knight and Trae Montgom- ery, spoke to the United Meth- odist Women’s group October 20 about the program. Jimmy Brown Elementa- ry school is the only PLTW Launch school in the state and one of 20 in the nation. Star City Middle school is a PLTW Gate- way school with subjects like Medical Detectives, Magic of Electrons, Automation and Ro- botics, Design and Modeling. At the high school level course include Intro to Engineering Design, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Principles of Engineering. Dr. Montgomery, Mr. Walker, Mrs. Richard, Gin- ny Chambliss, Lindy Vagts, and Leigh Price will par- ticipate in Project Lead the Way Summit in Indianapolis, November 3, 4, 5 Blake Wynn, pitcher, spent two days at a baseball camp that was hosted at Fort Myers, Florida. earlier this month. Scouts attend the camp to watch young athletes who came to play 2 baseball games. Blake has been playing baseball since he was 5 years old. He heard about the camp through Rawling’s Prospect, a showcase summer baseball league from Little Rock that he plays with. Blake is interested in playing baseball for Ole Miss University. On October 4 at Lake Hamilton High School in Hot Springs, they received Superior and won Best in Class Visual Performance and finished third overall. On Saturday, October 11th, the band competed in Paragould and was awarded an Excellent Band Rating, and Superior Color guard rating, received Best in Class Visual and Color Guard. The Bulldog Regiment was second overall out of eight bands in General Effect and Visual Per- formance. October 14th, the band competed at UAM and earned overall rating of Excellent. Bradley Diffee won Superior as Drum Major and a score of 95 out of 100. The Color Guard and Percussion also earned a Superior. The Bulldogs Regiment competed in Class AA at the Ouachita Valley Invitational Marching Band Competition in Camden Fairview on Oc- tober 25th. They were Class AA Champions and won Best in Class AA in Band, Percussion, Color Guard, and Drum Major and First Division in Color Guard and Drum Major. In Band and Percussion they won Second Division.

This year’s homecoming festivities kicked off with Spirit Week. The daily themes were ‘Merica day, twin day, hero day, spirit day, and ended with coronation day. The students who showed the most spirit were chosen by the teachers to receive a free yearbook. The winners were Megan Belvedresi and Kacee Daniels. Before the coronation, FCCLA sponsored a homecoming breakfast for the girls of the court and their mothers, as well as the senior football players’ mothers. The ceremony was held in the gym for students, family, friends, and alumni to watch the 2014 SCHS Homecoming Court walk.

The Star City High School Choir competed in the Southeast Senior All-Region Choir and nine students made All Region October 18. Star City faced two losses against Hamburg and Warren, but rallied for a big win against number 2 in the state Dollarway.

Hamburg

The Bulldogs lost 37-20 to the Hamburg Lions October 10. First to score for Star City was Tye Brown from the one yard line with the help from DaJunn Harris and Bo McB-room who moved him into position for the score. L. J. Shelton scored in the third quarter and Harris scored

in the fourth. The coaches’ picks for the game were Austin Capps-Player of the Game, Sam Jackson-Offensive, Davon Leak-Defen-sive, Eric Esteban-Special Teams, and Caleb Walker Scout Team.

Warren

The Bulldogs lost 46-21 against the Warren Lumberjacks. Da Junn scored on the Bulldogs fi rst posses-sion of the game with a 65 yard run to the endzone. Tye Brown threw a 55 yard pass to connect with receiv-

Dollarway

The Bulldogs defeated Dollarway 24-20. Those to score were Da Junn

Harris from the 4 yard line twice. The second time was with the help of a Brown/Wynn connection for 68 yards to set Harris at the 4 yard line. Eric Esteban made good on a 21 yard fi eld goal and L. J. Shelton ran it in the fi nal score after Lance Harvey stripped the ball from a Cardinal player and Blake Wynn recovered.
