Starbucks picks a president from Technology IndustryStarbucks Corp. appointed Kevin Johnson as their new president and chief operating officer. Kevin Johnson is a former executive at Juniper Networks Inc. and 16 year veteran of Microsoft Corp. Mr. Johnson has been a member of Starbucks board since 2009. He will be replacing current COO Troy Alstead, who according to Starbucks will be taking an indefinite leave after 23 years at the company to spend time his family. According to Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schuitz, Kevin has been involved with the Companys digital operations. In the new role, he will directly be in charge of Information Technology and Supply Chain operations.The Company is focused on adapting to the consumer behavior of doing more shopping online, by finding new digital strategies such as mobile payments, to help customers engage with the Starbucks brand. The Company recently launched a promotional scheme, where customers were eligible for free Coffee for 30 years by using Starbucks Gift Cards. The Company also introduced a new payment option in Oregon, which allows customers to place orders online and later pick up their orders at the store. The results encouraged the executives to plan expanding the facility to 600 outlets in the Northwest. Companys Digital Initiatives greatly helped boost sales. Starbucks reported a profit of $983.1 million, up from $540.7 Million, while revenues increased 13% to $4.8 Billion.
