STARKDALE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH November 2012
We are now in the month of November and about
to enter one of the most meaningful seasons of the
year, the season of Advent, followed by the cele-
bration of Christmas and Epiphany. The church
has a lot for which to be grateful, and a lot to cele-
brate:
Abigail’s Angels have raised over $33,000 over
the last two months. We continue to pray that their
financial goal would be met in full, and that the
research for the cure of blindness among young
children be achieved.
Our Pastor to Young Families, Youth and Chil-
dren, has already begun his position and proven us
right; this specialized ministry was way overdue.
He is averaging 19 to 22 teenagers at his gather-
ings and promises that more will come. He plans
to reach out to leaders from community schools,
churches, and organizations such as PRIDE, the
Children’s Home, the Christian Academy …etc.
God has wonderful plans for the youth of our com-
munity and church.
During the month of October we received seven
new members, reenlisted two who have been on
the Inactive list, and welcomed back one who has
been away for a period of time.
I have already completed my studies, was exam-
ined by the Presbytery of the Alleghenies and ad-
mitted into its membership.
Our elders have been studying intensively in
preparation of their exam by the Evangelical Pres-
byterian Denomination. They will be examined
on November 10 and admitted into the member-
ship of the Presbytery by the end of the month.
Our sanctuary now looks more beautiful, cleaner
and larger due to the new carpet and some remod-
eling repairs, thanks to the hard work of three men
and a lady.
Our staff offices have had a facelift and are more
professional looking, attractive and welcoming.
The Sunday school classes and the midweek Bible
studies are drawing more people, some of whom
drive from Richmond, Weirton, Burgettstown, and
Martins Ferry.
What a list of blessings this is to be added to our
personal blessings as we approach Thanksgiving
this month! The Lord is good.
Speaking of Thanksgiving, the “Faith in the Future
Annual Breakfast” event will be held at Starkdale
on Friday November, 16 at 7:30 A.M. (Guest
Speaker: Jody Glaub); and the Ecumenical Thanks-
giving Service will be held at the Chapel of Urban
Mission on Sunday, November 18 at 5:00 P.M.
(Guest Speaker: Vaughn Foster).
We have just begun; we shall wait and see what the
Lord has in mind for Christmas. Starkdale cannot
be what it is without the many of you who are Christ
-centered, mission-minded, family-focused, Bible-
based, God-loving, and prayer-motivated people.
God bless you all!

FROM THE
Big Day of Serving A Big Success
I recently returned from a wonderful day of service with
10 other Starkdale participants from Akron and am ex-
hausted but overjoyed at how God used our students
today. A few of the tasks we worked on included con-
structing park benches for an area under urban renewal
which is giving young families positive things to do in
the core area of the city. We also painted, cleaned ta-
bles & chairs, planted and weeded garden areas,
assisted with cleaning at a community center which ser-
vices primarily underprivileged youth. We also were
able to go to the "Peanut Shop" and buy some candy
and planters nuts too. I was blessed to lead our group
and another youth group of teens in a Bible Study at
lunch time on the fact that we as believers are all a part
of the "body of Christ" and each one of us has a job to
do in order to have the work of the kingdom accom-
plished in the world. The ride there and back was a lot
of fun as the students laughed and had a chance to get
to know one another a lot better than they did before the
trip. To sum it up when I saw one of our students
(Saharah) get out of the van and yelled out "that was
awesome" as she ran to her vehicle to get a ride home I
knew God had done His work today in our students
lives. Also special thanks to Rick Baker who drove and
worked very hard with the bench construction and Jeanne
Cox who took a group of our students by herself for a
while as we needed to split into two groups.
In Other Youth Related News...
Our new Starkdale Youth Worship band debuted last Sun-
day evening and were very well received by the teens. We
had our largest turnout of youth ever last Sunday (at least
20) and we have new students attend each week. It
seems like God is building something wonderful here and
we covet your prayers for even more teens to be reached
for the gospel through this ministry.
Blessings,
Pastor Bobbyjon
Veterans Day is November 11. Call and tell a veteran
thank you for their service to our nation.

Where Angels Tread, Success Follows!
It was certainly a sight to see over 300 local ‘angels’
tread the streets of Wintersville. They honored seven-
year old Abigail Kinney’s fight for sight, promoted
awareness for a rare eye condition called Leber’s Con-
genital Amaurosis (LCA) and in the process raised over
$31,000.
The Abigail’s Angels Charity Walk’ was held on Satur-
day, September 22. It started at Indian Creek High
School auditorium and back concluding with ‘Finish
Line Festivities’ of music, fun inflatables, quality basket
raffles, food, facing-painting and more.
“This first-annual event truly exceeded expectations,”
says committee member and co-organizer, Cindy
Sagrilla. “The community support was overwhelming.”
“The most sincere thank-you doesn’t come close to ex-
pressing my gratitude for everyone’s participation; the
sponsors, walkers and the multitude of volunteers,” says
mother and organizer, Lori Kinney. “As we continue to
devote our attention to this cause, we are blessed by the
outpouring of continued love and support from so many,
knowing it means so much for my little girl.”
To contribute to Abigail’s Angels, please visit

or call Starkdale Presbyterian Church Office at 740-264-
5309.
[Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA) is a disease that
causes the eye’s retina to slowly die. The gene RDH12 is
the culprit, but there is hope. Research is now underway
for the development of a gene therapy treatment that will
sustain or restore vision for many like Abigail. Abigail’s
Angels support the official 5013C non-profit, “The
RDH12 Fund for Sight” and all donations are tax de-
ductible. All monies are used to fund RDH12 research.]
If you'd like more information about this topic or the
event, please call Cindy Sagrilla at 740-635-6484 or e-
mail Cindy at [email protected]

Dear Starkdale Family,
Thank you so much for all of your prayers and
support during my recent surgery. God has truly
blessed me with such a wonderful church family. I
will continue to keep you in my prayers as well. God Bless you
all,
Bob Neal
Thank you for your thoughts and prayers which have provided
me with comfort and a grateful appreciation of my Starkdale
family. May God bless all of you.
Janet Haverfield.
Dear Starkdale Family:
Many of Dr. Makari’s recent sermons dealing with Christian
Fellowship have really hit home for our family in recent months
and we would be greatly remiss if we failed to mention the out-
standing examples of Christian Fellowship and generosity we
have received from the members of Starkdale Church during the
arduous and often agonizing steps of our move to become mem-
bers of the Wintersville community.
Along the way we have faced deceit, deception, incompetence,
and unethical behavior from a multitude of people who claim to
be professionals, and yet at every turn, when our temptation
rose to fall into Satan’s trap to fight at that level, there was an-
other member of the Starkdale congregation present to step up
and help us, provide support and prayers and present us with
offers of generosity that have been OVERWHELMING. As
we come to the end of the miserable journey, and finally do get
settled in, we owe a great deal of thanks to the Starkdale con-
gregation. Specifically, our eternal gratitude goes out to Eleanor
(and Steve) Drazich, Carolyn and Vernon McCamic, Dr. Tom
and Suzanne Brown, Bob and Cindy Sagrilla, Jane Gambos, and
John and Judy Mallet. You have epitomized what Christian Fel-
lowship is all about and our family is grateful to you beyond
what words can express. We thank God daily for putting Stark-
dale into our lives and the recent acts of benevolence shown by
the members of our church family have truly cemented our bond
with the Lord and this amazing church family. Rest assured,
Christian Fellowship is alive and well at Starkdale!
Gratefully, humbly and sincerely,
Rick, Melanie and Kody Carver
Dear Starkdale Church,
I want to thank the church for the card. Your thoughtfulness
means so much to me. Thank you for kind words and prayers. I
really appreciate it. Hope to be back in church soon.
Love and Prayers,
Kylee Paris

TO EVERYONE WHO
GAVE SO MUCH TO
MAKE
“Abigail’s Angels
Charity Walk” a
huge success!
The Abigail's Angels Charity walk held on
September 22, was a huge success. We were
able to raise $31,000.00 to benefit the
RDH12 Fund for Sight. The money raised
will be used to fund research, now in pro-
gress at the University of Michigan, to de-
velop a cure for the RDH12 gene mutation.
A big thank you to our church family for
hosting the event. The Starkdale congrega-
tion supports Abigail and The RDH12 Fund
for Sight, spiritually, financially, and with
their labors of love.
Thank you to the numerous sponsors and
volunteers who made this event possi-
ble. The success of this event proves once
again that the people of the Ohio Valley
have hearts made of gold. It is our personal
hope and prayer that through the funding of
the research a cure will be found for Abigail
and for all the children that this disease af-
fects.

2nd Annual Live Nativity
Mark your calendars to join us for Starkdale’s 2nd Annual Live Nativity on Sunday, December 16, 2012.
The presentation celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ , will be repeated at 30 minute
intervals from 5-8 p.m. (5:00, 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, and 7:30 p.m.), each followed by a time of fellow-
ship and refreshments. A passenger drop-off point near the building and shuttle service to and from Riesbeck’s
parking lot will be available. We encourage you to take time out of the busy holiday season to worship God
as the message of the Live Nativity directs our hearts & minds to focus on the true meaning of Christmas
which is recorded in Luke 2:10-11: But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you
good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born
for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Starkdale Congregation: We are in need of adult volunteers willing to participate as characters or help-
ers. Please contact Jane Gambos or Cindy Sagrilla for details. We will also be accepting donations of
homemade cookies the week before the event.

The Annual Starkdale Hymnfest held on October 7 was an-
other great success as voices were raised in praise to the
Lord by the congregation, the choir, soloists, and singing
groups from the Tri-State area. Pictured to the left are “The
Four Friends” (George Allan, Bob Burns, Paul Visyak, and
Jody Glaub) who are always a favorite at the Hymnfest.
Below is the Starkdale Choir lifting their voices in Praise.
Carolyn Glaub is the choir director. Others who sang in-
cluded Tom Graham, Carolyn Glaub, Morris Knabenshue,
Pastor Bobbyjon, Faith and Emily Bauman, The Friends
Choir, and Splendid Sound. Stephan Carroll accompanied
the congregation as they sang “Just as I Am”, “Heaven
Came Down”, and “Give Thanks” for the offertory given to
support Abigail’s Angels.
