About the Food Bank of Lincoln

The BackPack Program provides food filled backpacks to students in need of food over the weekend. Many of these students rely on their school’s breakfasts and lunches for their most nutritious meals of the day. The BackPack Program is a way to help these students and their families until students return to school on Monday.

About the Food Bank of Lincoln

Neighborhood Food ProgramThe Food Bank of Lincoln works with the Center for People in Need to sponsor mobile pantries at four sites per week in Lincoln. This program is held at community gathering places in some of Lincoln’s lowest income areas and currently serves approximately 1,300 families per week.

Church. New in 2013, Veterans Mobile PantryOn the first Monday of

each month.

Rural Food DistributionThe Food Bank of Lincoln collaborates with Catholic Social Services in several rural communities to sponsor mobile pantries at local sites. Every month the Food Bank takes a truckload of food to rural sites where volunteers distribute supplies to families.

We also distribute 276

food filled bags to 10

rural partner sites in

our 16 county service

area.

Food for SeniorsThe Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) in partnership with the Indian Center, provides commodity food packages to elderly persons at least 60 years of age who meet income eligibility requirements. CSFP food packages are good sources of nutrients typically lacking in the diets of the target populations.

SNAP – Food Stamp OutreachSNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is the country’s primary nutrition assistance program. Our SNAP Outreach Program aims to increase the number of eligible residents receiving SNAP benefits

Housewarming ProgramThe Food Bank of Lincoln introduced the Housewarming Project in 2005, inviting women transitioning out of shelters into their own households to come to the Food Bank to shop for 100 pounds of groceries. The Housewarming shoppers would also receive bags of household necessities.

In 2009, the Housewarming project expanded to also include male clients. Today, the Housewarming Program is housed at the Good Neighbor Community Center .
