Silent Disco Sessions
© 2019 | Amazon Web Services. All rights reserved.
Silent Disco Sessions are a new format this year at the DC Summit. In the Ballroom on Level 3, five breakout sessions will be running simultaneously across five different stagesthroughout the main conference days. Unlike regular breakout sessions, the microphones do not project, but rather feed into headphones that line the corresponding seats in front of each session’s stage.
Just like an actual silent disco, you can tune into the speaker by selecting one of the provided headphones. Stages are lit up in different colors, which correspond to the signage, the headphones, and the mobile app. Check out this new format onsite and let us know what you think in the mobile app survey!

Global sustainable development seeks to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. Earth observations play an important role in monitoring targets, tracking progress, and helping nations and stakeholders make informed decisions. However, this data is not always easily accessible and users may not have the compute power necessary to take advantage of these resources through their own on-premises data centers. The recently launched Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative significantly reduces the cost, time, and technical barriers associated with analyzing large datasets to generate sustainability insights.

Customers often ask us how they can innovate like Amazon. From its humble beginnings as a startup in a garage, Amazon has not only innovated across e-commerce, but also introduced new businesses that, at first glance, don't seem to fit the model. Over the years, Amazon has gotten very good at taking hard problems and finding an easier way. We will describe how we use this mental model and mechanisms to help innovate in the Public Sector with the Cloud Innovation Center (CICs) Program. We discuss how Amazon organizes for innovation with its mechanisms, architecture, culture, and organization.

CLOUD PROCUREMENT
The Authority to Operate (ATO) on AWS program aims to accelerate clients through compliance. Rather than spending months manually building compliant environments, now cloud automation can build audit-ready environments in hours. When compliance is automated, it becomes easy; however, codifying an environment is a profound change for many organizations. Existing tools, techniques, and technologies do not directly translate to the cloud. In this session, we’ll discuss the vision of the ATO on AWS program and demonstrate how compliance can be automated.

With Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) on VMware, you can use the same, simple interface to manage databases in on-premises VMware environments as you would use in AWS. You can easily replicate Amazon RDS on VMware databases to Amazon RDS instances in AWS, enabling low-cost hybrid deployments for disaster recovery, read replica bursting, and optional long-term backup retention in Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3). Amazon RDS on VMware is in preview and will be generally available soon, supporting Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MariaDBdatabases.
