Il l I I 11111 I CERTIFICATE OF PROCLAMATION lli 1 II I IIIIIII I I I 1111111 II Ill I 111111 11111 11 111 I 1 111111111 II I I I 11111 1111111111 1111 1111111 1111111111 I I I I 1111111 11111111111 111 I 111111111111111111111111 1 I I ON BEHALF OF THE PEOPLE OF MICHIGAN, I, Gretchen ·whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 12 -August 18, 2019 as SAFE AND SOUND WEEK WHEREAS, each year, workers in Michigan experience serious illnesses, injuries, and fatalities, and in 2019 thus far, the Michigan Occupational Health and Safety Administration reported 14 work-related fatalities; and, WHEREAS, we know these horrific occurrences not only impact the lives of workers and families, but also impact the economy of our nation as a whole; and, WHEREAS, many incidents at the workplace are preventable, and both employees and employers need to be educated, engaged, and involved in the promotion of safe practices and reduction of unsafe conditions in their respective workplaces; and, WHEREAS, many safety professionals throughout the Great Lakes State are committed to identifying hazards, creating controls for those hazards, and/or finding ways to eliminate them altogether in order to preserve lives; and, WHEREAS, the core elements of an effective safety and health program are leadership participation, management and worker participation in the identification of hazards, and creatively solving issues related to them; and, WHEREAS, Safe and Sound Week provides an opportunity for organizations to show their safety practices and their commitment to making the state of Michigan the most safe and healthy place to work; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gretchen Whitmer, governor of Michigan, do hereby proclaim August 12-18, 2019, as Safe and Sound Week in Michigan and motivate all Michiganders to promote awareness oft orkplaces.
