our CommuNIty GAtHerING PLACe: tHe NeW ‘AIeA PuBLIC LIBrAryMy top priority is to ensure that progress of our new library stays on schedule and that groundbreaking takes place later this year with a tentative completion in early 2014. This project is about about investing in quality education in our neighborhoods, empowerinG our youth through learning and providing a GatherinG place for our ‘ohana and kupuna programs.

Located on the 2.254 acre site, the new library will be part of the former ‘Aiea Sugar Mill property. It will contain 78,000 books, wireless technology, a children’s reading room, a community room and a photovoltaic electricity generation system to ensure a green and sustainable facility.

As a person who has built her career around collecting, preserving and celebrating our stories, it is an honor to help bring to fruition the dream of a new library to District 33 at the same time honoring those that have worked tirelessly for decades to make it a reality.
