Childhood Nutritional Policy Good nutrition is of paramount importance to the health
of children everywhere.
Children need access to quality and nutritional food.
Healthy and Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010
• The National School Lunch Program
• The School Breakfast Program • The Special Supplemental
Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC)
• The Summer Food Service Program
• The Child and Adult Care Food Program
Child Nutrition Reauthorization Act (H.R. 5003)
This bill would roll back key progress that schools, health advocates, and the Administra:on have worked so hard to achieve over the last six years.
Summer Nutrition Programs
School Support Services Opera:ons office • The office administers various federal and
state educa:on grants, and it administers the Food and Nutri:on programs, including the School Breakfast Program and the Na:onal School Lunch Program.
• Child and Adult Care Food Program and the School Nutri:on Programs Unit.
Nutrition Program Expanding Nearly 16,000 Flint school children and 43,000 Detroit school children will now be eligible for expanded access to healthy meals during the upcoming summer months.
All together, more than 83,000 Michigan students who will now be eligible to par:cipate in the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) for Children program in 2016.
School Gardens Ins:ll the values of healthy ea:ng, growing your own food, learning about nutri:on, and being physically ac:ve.
• Lesson Plans Include: • Informa:on that will help school nutri:on professionals determine the selec:on of
which produce to grow,
• Informa:on on how produce can be incorporated into quan:ty recipes or used on the serving line,
• Informa:on on procedures that detail the proper storage, prepara:on, and culinary techniques used to make produce appealing to students, and
• Informa:on on the nutri:onal value of produce and recipes.
