Station 2: United States of America
Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C (the District of Columbia) is the capital of the United States and domiciles all three branches of the federal government of the United States, which means, that the Congress, the President and the Supreme Court are located in Washington, D.C.. The White House, where the president of the United States lives and has his office, is one of the many attractions in Washington, which brings some thousands of tourists into the city each year. Also there are 176 foreign embassies, which also show the importance of the city for the relationship with other countries.
Washington, D.C. is the home of around 650,000 people. During the week the population raises up to 1,000,000, as many workers come to Washington from the surrounding counties Maryland and Virginia. Many of them work in the administration of the federal government or one of the big countries, which have settled in Washington, D.C..
Beside some big memorials, like the National World War II Memorial or the Lincoln Memorial, Washington also domiciles the great National Museum of Natural History, which is one of the biggest museums in the United States.
