RF-gun
Type will be prototype #4 type
Goal: One common design for XFEL, FLASH and PITZ – NO VACUUM WORK AFTER CONDITIONING
Solenoids and support frame from gun2
Check for optimization of water cooling distribution / connection
Position of micro-mover to be changed
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun – crucial issuesRF-window design
Major challenge at the moment: RF-window design Preferred solution is new
development MHF-p and Thales
Several mounting options under discussion, only one possibility shown
Full power through 1 window No SF6 but small overpressure
of air Requires more complicated
wave-guide distribution (4 wave-guide arms, 4 circulators, combination as close as possible to the window)
PMe-
Bend (vacuum pump to be included)
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun – crucial issuesRF-window design
PITZ design Set-up operable @ XFEL parameters
Gradient: OK Pulse length: OK but no long term
experience Trip rate: gun4.2 to high, gun4.1
presentation during this meeting will show
Two RF-windows with at the moment no guarantee of proper functionality
Wave-guides under SF6
Interlock sensors (esp. pick-up at wrong positions)-> redesign of T-combiner necessary
More complicated vacuum parts UHV directional coupler
One prototype in operation No particle free cleaning up to now, even
particle count not tested Bigger RF-gun assembly
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun – crucial issues
Flange connection of coaxial coupler under investigation for improvement: Currently extremely
limited space for nuts and tools -> complicated mounting
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun – not so crucial issuescontact spring
FLASH design Flat open spring Currently silver coated copper-
beryllium Particle creation during insertion /
removement of cathodes
Spring type
Vertical Horizontal
In Out Cleaning
In Out Cleaning
Ag coated
480-900 400-500 140-850 33-50 90-150 420-875
Au coated
75-120 230-320 1300 8 12 1200
plain 18-30 30-55 200-230 15 15 150
From the point of view of particle creation the uncoated copper-beryllium spring is best and the currently used Ag coated worst. Next step would be test in RF-gun: PITZ??
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun – not so crucial issuescontact spring
FermiLab design Round and closed (welded) spring Copper-beryllium Changed cathode layout
Up to now two damaged springs without extensive usage
Spring has to many degrees of freedom
Design changes necessary Still not proven if cathode layout
change reduces dark current
Sven Lederer PITZ-Collaboration meeting 27th-28th of Oct. 2011
RF-gun: scheduleSchedule adapted to current injector installation schedule!
Design to be finished Dec-2011 PRR Dec-2011, if RF-window question is solved Gun body already in production Coaxial coupler production started Components ready for cleaning Apr-2012
Gun ready for installation at PITZ Dec-2012 Conditioning and predefined characterization program Gun ready for installation in XTIN Jul-2013
