We all know the importance of

living a healthy and active lifestyle.

With the New Year here, many of

you are probably committing

yourselves to a year of proper

health and fitness.

Yet the winter months can be brutal

for exercising, especially when you

live in exceptionally cold regions.

Here are a few tips from The

Independent, and Active.com to

help you uphold your New Year’s

Resolution in the cold winter

months.

WORKOUT WITH FRIENDS

For those of you who are a bit more

social, working out alone can

sometimes feel like a drag in your

daily routine. After a long day of

work or school, it’s good to unwind

a bit with friends.

You’ll look forward to the social

element in your afternoon, and

naturally, your time at the gym.

Committing yourself to the gym with

a friend can also be a positive

source of peer pressure, pushing

you to exercise even when

motivation is down.

Your friend will surely be hoping to

do the same with you.

WORKOUT AT HOME

Page 9: Stay Warm, Stay Fit During the Winter Months

If it's cold, snowy, and just plain

messy outside, there’s no way

you’ll be going to the gym. Luckily,

working out at home is totally easy.

If you’re a Yogi, or even a Yoga first

timer, working out at home is simply

a matter of finding a spot to put

down your mat.

If you’re looking for a bit more

space, for pushups, squats, and

situps, just slide your couch and

coffee table over and you’re ready

to go. If you’re focused on strength

building exercises, crossfit and/or

dumbbell training are great

workouts to do in the coziness of

your own home.

CHANGE THE ROUTINE

Page 12: Stay Warm, Stay Fit During the Winter Months

For some people, falling into a

routine can hurt their workout

motivation. A change of scenery will

surely help gain back some of the

lost motivation.

Visit other gyms, and even change

your fitness routine up. These

changes will keep you ready to

tackle new workouts and

environments.

TRY INDOORSPORTS

Page 15: Stay Warm, Stay Fit During the Winter Months

This option can be a little difficult if

you’re not familiar with sports, or

don’t have friends interested in

sports. Don’t be diswayed though,

as the previous tip suggests,

change your routine up !

Page 16: Stay Warm, Stay Fit During the Winter Months

Sports like soccer, basketball,

rugby, and flag football can be very

physically demanding. Try any one

of these if you haven’t had the

opportunity to do so yet. You’ll

never know what you can fall in

love with.

Also, there are plenty of apps that

can help people connect for pickup

sports. Try one!

DANCING

Page 19: Stay Warm, Stay Fit During the Winter Months

Anyone who has spent a night out

dancing knows what a workout it

can turn into. If you’re tired of

traditional workouts, enroll in a

Zumba, or Salsa class. Zumba and

Salsa can be high intensity

workouts once you learn the steps

and motions.

It’s definitely a fun substitution for

the traditional treadmill run at the

gym. So change those running

shoes for dancing shoes and get

going!
