Language Arts Little Critter: Happy Mother’s Day by Mercer Mayer Introduction of Story Details Review of Story Details Objective: Students will increase knowledge of story details.

STORY VOCABULARY: MOTHER’S DAY, FLOWERS, PICTURE, HAT, EGGS STORY DETAILS:

1. Little Critter was getting ready for MOTHER’S DAY 2. Little Sister collects FLOWERS from Mom’s garden. FLOWERS 3. Little Critter makes a PICTURE. 4. Little Critter and Little Sister buys mom a HAT. 5. Little Critter makes mom EGGS for breakfast but drops them on the

floor.

Materials: Book: Little Critter: Happy Mother’s Day by Mercer Mayer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXgP-dLHBKo

Objects/Props: mom (doll), flowers (smell), picture (crayon) hat, egg (real or play), distractors Picture Icons &icons with texture to represent core words and story details. Procedure/Method: 1. Tell students we are listening to the book: Little Critter: Happy Mother’s Day by

Mercer Mayer Say: There are many things that happen in a story. We call these details. Let’s read to find out the details in the story. Read and emphasize through intonation but not stopping the story flow.

2. Show students the book if printed form virtual backpack. Expose students to story

details using concrete objects, picture icons& icons with texture.

3. Read to support story details.

Science

Scratch and Sniff Painting

Materials

Glue Paper plate various flavors of jello or kool aid

Directions:

1. Drizzle the glue onto the plate, using random directions

2. Sprinkle the jello or kool aid over the glue, covering it all.

3. Shake off the excess jello or kool aid and observe what happens:

As the jello or kool aid gets wet, the glue changes color!

4. Let dry, then gently scratch and sniff your design!

Cherry Blossom Tree

Materials

Pink, Brown paint

Paint brush, paper

plate

Soda bottles-any size will work

Directions

1. Draw or paint a tree with branches on paper.

2. Dip the bottom of the soda a 2 bottle into

the paint.

3. Press the end of the bottle with the paint on

it on the tree branches.

Let dry
