In Georgia, STEM education is defined as an integrated curriculum that is driven by problem-solving, discovery, exploratory project/problem-based learning, and student-centered development of ideas and solutions.

As outlined by the Georgia Department of Education’s High School STEM Certification Rubric, all STEM students are required to annually participate in designated STEM competitions.

Capstone Requirement

All STEM students are required to complete a capstone project or internship by the spring of their senior year.

Are we required to participate in HOSA and TSA?

Yes, hese are your professional CTAE communities that can serve as competition, but are also to develop leadership skills.

What Does Rigor Mean in STEM Students?

Prior to STEM rigor meant I had to study 5-10 minutes before the test….now I have to study 30-45 minutes each night to get the “A.”

Material is complex- must actively study.

You must pick up inferences not just memorization…. constant application of knowledge

You have to explain “how” and “why” in everything you do.

Everything isn’t going to be spelled out. Teachers support you while learning to make your own connections.
