Dear STEM Community:
Tungana (meaning we have come together in Shona) is a movement that provides African high school girls from rural disadvantaged communities with a world-class opportunity to access and explore the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Taungana’s flagship activity is the Taungana STEM Expo - a STEM career guidance program that seeks to give rural high school girls in the Southern African region an opportunity to connect with STEM professionals, get exposure to leading STEM organisations, STEM career paths, and become STEM promotion ambassadors in their own communities.
Taungana is owned by its partner organisations in different African countries. The proud initiating partners of Taungana are the South African TechWomen Alumnae (STEM-IT-Forward), Asikana Network of Zambia and TechWomen Zimbabwe.
Taungana is thus hosting its first STEM Expo in Johannesburg from the 24 - 30 August 2014. The Expo theme is - Decoding STEM Careers!. This premier event will see a targeted 30 girls from rural South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe come to Johannesburg to get real-life exposure to STEM!
We need your urgent help to make this event a success! We appeal to you to please support us by contributing to our Taungana on Indiegogo campaign. The funds will be used to sponsor food and accommodation for the Taungana Ambassadors.
With the generous support of the Techwomen family, we will be able to give the Taungana Ambassadors an opportunity that can potentially change their lives and their communities.
