If you find missing citations, you can go back to PubMed and
search in different ways to locate the missing items.
Caution: sometimes the results will show “1 citation found” (1)
plus a list of other results (2).
• Do not assume “1 citation found” will
send only 1 citation to the database.
• It is important to check the specific
citation(s) you want to send to My
Bibliography.
• If you do not check any citation, every
citation will be sent to your database,
including articles written by other
authors.

are not indexed by
PubMed, you may enter
them manually.
• Note that you can add a
variety of types of
citations—besides journal

Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
From your My NCBI page,
go to Manage SciENcv.
CLICK
Once you have compared My
Bibliography with the CV and
completed all edits, you may
begin creating the SciENcv.
4/24/2015 Obstetrics & Gynecology 23
Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
You have 3 options for creating
a new profile in SciENcv:
1. From scratch
2. From an external source* *Preferred method—this is the example we show.
3. From an existing profile 1 2 3
Create a new profile
(profile = biosketch)
Name your
biosketch
Type is NEW
Input from eRA
Commons
After you have created your
first biosketch, you can
create subsequent ones using
option 3, create from an
existing profile.
Add Honors here.
Add Other Experiences and
Professional Memberships.
Add Personal Statement and
supporting citations here.
• All required information
can be cut and pasted
from the existing CV.
• Keyboard shortcuts
make this task easier!

Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
Add Contributions to
Science here.
• Education and positions
should populate from
your eCommons
personal profile.
• If it doesn’t, you can
add manually.

To add Contributions to Science,
click on “edit section.”
Then add a text description and
choose up to 4 publications as
support.

Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
To add Research Support, click
on “edit awards.”
See the next slide for details
about adding research
support—this component of
SciENcv is a little strange.

Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
This is silly, but every year for every NIH
grant will show up in the list. Choose only
the latest year for each award. Example: K23 HD059916-01 K23 HD059916-02 K23 HD059916-03 K23 HD059916-04 K23 HD059916-05 —choose this one. It is
the latest.
Check the current
and completed
(within the last 3
years) NIH awards
you want to show on
this biosketch.
• Non-NIH grants will need to be entered
manually on the User tab.
• If you are a role other than PI on a
grant, you will need to enter that grant
manually on the User tab.

Step 3:
SciENcv—Populate the Database & Create Biosketches
• To generate your biosketch, scroll back to the
top of the SciENcv page and choose to download
in Word.
• The page format in SciENcv is not perfected yet,
so we suggest downloading in Word so odd page
formatting can be corrected.
• After formatting in Word, save as a PDF to attach
to grant applications. Congratulations! You are
finished. You will find HELP
resources on the next few
slides.
