Nazareth Parents, Athletico is proud to announce an exciting new endeavor that will be available to Nazareth athletes this fall, and beyond. Nazareth athletes will receive a baseline El Minda Brain Network Activity (BNA) Test. Through Nazareth’s Academy relationship with Athletico, Nazareth athletes will be a part of a pilot study utilizing this fascinating new technology. What is El Minda BNA™? El Minda Brain Network Activity™ (BNA) is a machine that utilizes an EEG to measure actual brain activity. Through advanced software and algorithms, it is able to clear out “white noise” that is usually associated with this type of testing for concussions. This is a brand new technology, and Athletico is excited to be one of the first organizations in the country to be involved with this device. What is involved in receiving a BNA™ baseline test? Your son/daughter will have a 64-electrode netting placed on their head while performing a simple task. This netting has 64 electrodes throughout, which will record the necessary information. The test takes approximately 45 minutes from set-up to electrode removal. When an athlete sustains a concussion, their follow-up test will be compared to their baseline. This is a similar means as the ImPACT test is utilized, however it is measuring different things.. What type of information will I get from my child taking a BNA™ test? Upon taking the baseline test, you and your athlete will receive a document explaining the El Minda BNA as well as a sheet discussing what you should do in the event that your child sustains a concussion. What do we have to do as Nazareth athletes and parents? The BNA test will be performed at the LaGrange Athletico location. The address is 407 N LaGrange Road, just north of Ogden Avenue. This facility is approximately 5 minutes from Nazareth Academy. All you need to do is call this facility to make an appointment at 708-482-9320. As a part of the pilot study, Athletico will also be providing post-season testing at the same LaGrange Park facility. Understanding brain networks before and after each season will allow us to better deal with concussions in the future, so participation in this aspect is greatly appreciated. Is the BNA Test safe? Yes. The BNA test is non-invasive. The equipment that is used is all cleared and approved by the FDA.

Nazareth Parents,

Athletico is proud to announce an exciting new endeavor that will be available to Nazareth athletes this fall, and beyond.

What type of information will I get from my child t aking a BNA™ test?

What will this cost me?

If you choose to take part in the BNA™ pilot study, there will be no cost to you for any BNA™ testing for either baseline or follow-up testing.

Is my son/daughter required to participate?

No. Participation in this pilot study is completely voluntary.

If you have any further questions, please contact Mike Palm at Athletico at
