STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO SETTING UP THE SOUND
DESK ...By Leah Butterworth
1. Gather all your equipment
This will include: The sound
desk Speakers Sound source XLR Lead Power cable Jacks Phono cable
2. You connect the sound desk and the
speaker to the power source
3. You connect the speakers to the sound desk using an XLR cable make sure the left output goes to the left speaker the right input goes to the
right speaker
5. Then you need to switch on the sound desk followed by switching on the sound device then the speakers. This will make sure the speakers don't pop.
4. Next you need to connect your sound source to the sound desk. If you are using an IPOD you will need to use a Jack cable but if you are using a CD or any video equipment you will need to use a Jack.
6. Next you have to control the gain in the first two inputs that you have plugged your sound source into. This controls how much sound is sent from the sound device to the desk. When setting the gain you should
make sure the lights are showing as all green and a little orange. This is the gauge, this shows the volume visually.
If this is shown red the sound is way to high and the sound will become distorted and bad quality
8. Now you have to adjust the PAN. This sends sound left or right using stereo inputs so the left
speaker is the left pan and the right speaker
is the right pan. So make sure your left pan is all the way to the left and the right pan is all the way to
the right.
9. Now you need to switch the channels
‘on’
10. Next you need to adjust the faders on your channel to the right volume. Faders control the volume of each channel output. You can pre or post fade. Pre fade is applied before the effect and post fade is after you have given an effect.
11. Now you need to adjust the main fader.
This controls the overall output of volume. This should be set to zero.
12. Now you should have sound playing.
You can now switch on your special effects
channel and play around with what
sounds the best. These could be really useful when doing shows.
13. This is how you do it after switching on the channels.
After choose the effect you want you turn both knobs to the same number to create the effect within the sound your playing
These are all the different effects with numbers next to them so you choose one of them
And that is your step by step guide on how
you set up your sound desk
