Step-by-Step Instructions

These Origami cranes are really easy to make, and are a fantastically cheap way to decorate your home.

You will need to buy some square paper – specialised origami paper is available, but I just bought some

nice patterned card from WHSmith. It also helps to get the creases really sharp, so I used a ruler to flatten

them at each stage

Fold in four different directions, unfolding after each. Using these creases, create a square as shown

below:

Positioning the folded edge at the top, fold in the top layer of each side towards the middle crease, and

repeat on the other side

Fold the top of the shape down towards the bottom to form a triangle. Unfold this triangle, and

repeat on the other side. Then unfold the last 2 stages to create the square again.

Pick up the top layer of the bottom of your square, and fold it upwards, using the creases you have

just made. Repeat on the other side to form a diamond

As before, fold in the sides of this diamond toward the central crease, and repeat on both sides. Then

pick up the left hand side, and turn it over as if it was a book page. Repeat on the other side and you

will have formed another diamond:

Fold the top layer of the bottom corner up towards the top corner as far as you can, and repeat on

the other side. These folds will form the ‘head’ and ‘tail’ of your crane. Fold down one of these to

create the head, and then repeat the book page turn over as before

Pull out the head and the tail slightly so they are not vertical, and then pull out the head from the

neck fold, as shown above

Finally, pull the ‘wings’ away from the body and shape as you want.

Ta-dah! If you want you can make a small hole and hang them with string to make a pretty mobile. An

ancient Japanese legend promises that anyone who folds a thousand origami cranes will be granted a

wish by a crane… better get folding! If you like this visit my site for more craft ideas:
