About usCorruption is pricey to Brazilians. This fact, which at first seems
obvious, was confirmed by a study of the Federation Industries of São Paulo (FIESP): about 3% of GDP is diverted and sidetracked from the public treasury, which represents
around R$ 100 billion a year.
So, in a general picture, million reais have been saved in public
coffers from the 80 Brazilian cities where the Observatories are pres-ent and currently, more than thou-sand volunteers from various fields and professions, are part of them.
In conclusion, the Observatorio Social de São José (OSSJ), is a non- govermental and non-profit entity, declared as Municipal and
State Public Utility, which develops social control actions of public
expenditure of the Municipal Gov-ernment of the city of São José.
