EARN WHILE YOU LEARNApprenticeships are a great choice for many young people.

TRAINEESHIPSWHAT IS A TRAINEESHIP?

Traineeships are unpaid training programmesthat allow you to enrol on a course and getwork experience without getting your benefitsand job seekers allowance stopped.

Stephenson College will meet all transportcosts to college and employers will provide all travel costs to your place of work and food and drink.

WHAT DOES A TRAINEESHIP INVOLVE?

• Work preparation training at college toprepare you for your working environmentand improve your confidence. This willinclude developing your CV and interviewskills.

• Specific development of your English,Maths and IT skills tailored to the needs of the company you will be working in.

• Health and Safety training specific to thecompany/sector you will be working in.

• A 10 week, high quality work placementoffering you a great insight into thecompany’s operations. You will alsoundertake the company’s inductionprogramme and get your own personalwork buddy/mentor.

At the end of the work experience placementyou will get an interview with the company, ifvacancies are available. In addition you willreceive a reference, a certificate ofachievement and an exit interview.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ATRAINEESHIP?

Taking part in a Traineeship will put you in abetter position to compete for anApprenticeship or other jobs, as you will gaingenuine employability skills and actual workexperience to add to your CV.

If you are motivated to work and ready to starta career, yet restricted by a lack of skills andexperience, this is exactly the opportunity youneed. You may be eligible if you:

APPRENTICESHIPSHOW DO I BECOME AN APPRENTICE?

You must be 16 or over, living in England and not in full-time education. There are alsoflexible entry requirements as Apprenticeshipsare not just focused on academic achievementbut are much more practical based. If you arenot employed we will match your detailsagainst any vacancies we have on file whileyou also apply for jobs.

WHY BECOME AN APPRENTICE?

You will be working in an area you enjoy and get paid, receiving a minimum of £2.73 per hour.

With this great foundation to build on you willhave a wide range of options available to youin the future.

SPORT EXTENDEDDIPLOMA Course Level 3

This qualification is designed for anyone wanting to work in the sport and leisure sector or looking to progress to higher education. It offers aninvaluable look at the opportunities, resources andwork carried out across this exciting and dynamicsector and gives you the opportunity to gain valuablework experience in your chosen area.

Qualifications/Experience You must have four GCSE grades C or above(preferably including English), or have completed aLevel 3 Diploma at Merit level. You will also attend aninterview and take an Initial Assessment.

Course Length 1 year top-up from the 90 credit Diploma = 40 weeks. 2 years full-time.

What You will cover a range of subject areas that include;physiology & anatomy, psychology, assessing risk insport, sports development, sports coaching, practicalteam and individual sports. You will also be given theopportunity to attend an overseas sporting residentialand ski trip, various outdoor activities, including whitewater rafting, cycling and canoeing. You will alsolearn functional skills which are English and Maths asrequired. You will also continue your English andMaths studies until reaching GCSE grade C orabove.

How A variety of learning approaches will be used andinclude; work-based activities, role-play andsimulations, independent learning opportunities,knowledge based sessions and a work placement.

Assessment The programme is continually assessed on the basisof assignments and practical activities.
