    MixedmethodsresearchisarapidlyexpandingmethodologyinthesocialandhumansciencesintheUSandaroundtheworld.InthispresentationIwillfirstdefinemixedmethodsresearch(combiningbothquantitativeandqualitativemethodsofresearch)anddiscusswhatitisandwhatitisnot.ThenIwillreviewabriefhistoryofitsdevelopment,andwhyitisimportanttoday.Iwilldiscussseveralofthescientificdevelopmentsinmixedmethodsthathaveoccurredoverthelasttenyears,suchasthespecificationoftypesofdesigns,theformationofmixedmethodsquestions,andtheuseofinnovativeapproachestojointlydisplayquantitativeandqualitativeresults.Finally,Iwilltalkaboutthefutureofthismethodologywhereitisheadedandsomeimportantworldwidedevelopmentsthathaveencouragedmixedmethodsresearch.
