May 3rd The 5th Sunday of Easter “Let It Overflow” Holy Communion I John 4:7-21
Rev. Dr. Peter LeValley
God’s love for us overflows in that same love being seen in and
through us. Love is an action!
May 10h The 6th Sunday of Easter “Strings Attached”
Mother’s Day & Festival of the Christian Home I John 5:1-6
Rev. Dr. Peter LeValley John 15:9-17
We celebrate the love God has given us through our mother’s and
those who have shared a mother’s love with us, and through the
command Jesus gives us to “love one another as he has loved us.”
May 17th The 7th Sunday of Easter “The Heaven’s Declare!”
Deacon Bonnie LeValley Psalm 19
It’s time for us to become ‘awe’-full Christians! It’s time to discover
our true relationship with God as creatures made by a loving
Creator. The heavens are telling the glory of God!
We must tell our story!
May 24th Pentecost Sunday “Something to Talk About”
Memorial Day Sunday Blessing of the Quilts
Rev. Dr. Peter LeValley Acts 2:1-21
When the Spirit enlivens our tongues and sets fire to our souls, we
really have something to talk about, “the mighty works of God.”
May 31st Music Sunday
.
A Mother’s Love. It is a sacred and beautiful
bond for which poems are written and movies are
made. It is built on hundreds of boo-boos that were
kissed and thousands of meals that were made. It is
built on occasional monumental moments and mil-
lions of small, seemingly insignificant moments that
happen day in and day out. It shapes our very lives.
How blessed are we that we have someone
who loves us even more than that! Someone who
loved us before our mothers even knew of our exist-
ence. Why not use the occasion of Mother’s Day to
make a special gift in honor of the one who gave
you life, by making a donation to the One who gave
His life for you. There are extra envelopes in the
back of your weekly offering booklets that are
marked “special”, and are designed to be used
whenever you feel moved to make an additional
offering. Please prayerfully consider doing so this
month. Maybe it will become a new Mother’s Day
tradition.

D
ear Partners in Ministry,
“Christ is Risen! He is Risen, indeed!” has been our cry throughout this Easter
season. The joy in knowing that death and despair, fear and anxiety do not have the final word.
God invites us to live as Easter People, Children of God. Children of God know that in the
difficult times we live in, God is there to comfort and
strengthen us, to guide and lead us. There are times in our
lives when we especially need to find ourselves held in
God’s arms.
There are also times when we claim the privilege of
being God’s arms to our sisters and brothers in Christ; to
comfort, strengthen and most of all be “God with skin on.” This is what living
the resurrection is about! This is what we celebrate throughout this Easter season.
This is why we give thanks that the Easter season concludes with the celebration of Pentecost, God’s blowing
the Holy Spirit upon all so that we can proclaim and live the wonderful way of God in all we do. Claim the
resurrection! Give thanks for being a Child of God! Live the resurrection, enlivened by the Spirit breathed upon you
by our risen Lord, Jesus the Christ.
Shalom,
Pastor Peter LeValley
Dear Friends,
Spring is a season of wonder for me. Wonder begins in the senses, comes alive
in the imagination, and flourishes in love of God. It arises from our natural curiosity
about the grand adventure of life. There is no end to the things that can awaken our
wonder, from the majesty of the night sky to the smell of lilacs in the spring. And it is all right here,
astonishments fill our daily lives.
As we wonder, we must practice the play of our senses: smell, touch, taste, hearing and seeing. Slow
down and tune into the world of this and that. You’ll never practice wonder by rushing. We can never be aston-
ished, or surprised when we are either overwhelmed or underwhelmed. Feeling the first, we don’t notice the sub-
tle blessings in our surroundings; we don’t take the time to stop and smell the roses. Feeling underwhelmed, we
couldn’t care less. “So what!” becomes our response instead of “ah-ha!”
So take time in this season of renewed life, to practice wonder as each day brings a constant parade of new
delights. “Oh taste and see that the Lord is good! Psalm 34:8
On the Journey!
Deacon Bonnie LeValley
BIBLE STUDY OPPORTUNITY
We will be offering a study of “The Prodigal God” by Rev. Timothy Keller. In 6 sessions,
Timothy Keller opens our eyes to the powerful message of Jesus’ best-known and least under-
stood parable: the prodigal son. It will provide an opportunity to glean insights from each of
the characters in Jesus’ parable. This 6-week study will be led by Pastor Peter LeValley,
Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the parlor. The Prodigal God book is integral to the class and
books are available in the study.
On Wednesday afternoons at 1:00 pm the Upper Room Study resumes located in the parlor, led by Deacon Bonnie
LeValley. Please read the Upper Room devotionals daily to prepare for this group.

on display the giftedness of God’s fellowship. Please consider displaying some of your artwork. Artwork comes
in many forms: photography, woodwork, weaving, quilting, papercutting, oils, watercolor, clay, etc. We are look-
ing for a display of your giftedness and will celebrate that. From 2-5 pm we will have several creation stations to
experience art in its various mediums. There will be something for all ages.

PIECEMAKER NEWS
It is said that “many hands make
light work” and this is so true of the
Piecemakers. They have been very
busy these past months creating
beautiful “Red, White and Blue”
quilts that will be given to returning
service men and women, their fami-
lies and also to retired veterans in
assisted living, nursing homes, and
VA hospitals. The tasks are many
—cutting fabrics, laying out quilts,
putting them together, actual stitch-
ing, tying and putting on labels,
packaging them to be taken to An-
nual Conference
where many are then
given to Fran Hem-
street or Heather or
Greg Stierheim to be
taken to Ft. Drum...our connection-
al system at work! Many of you
have taken a “kit” from the basket
and helped from home , thus mak-
ing the statement of “many hands”
come true. (We have had one
woman who has stitched quilts by
hand!!)
We would like to thank everyone
who has helped with this project.
These gifts of love will be on dis-
play in our sanctuary on Sunday,
May 24th (Memorial Day) where
they will be blessed and sent on
their way to their new owners, We
do keep several here in the event
they are needed closer to home.
Our quilters have decided that
they would, once again, like to
meet during the summer months.
So if you cannot join the group dur-
ing the school year, come and join
us during the summer - Friday
mornings at 9:00 am in the
Fellowship Hall.
CONCERT
The Youth Choir from
Trinity UMC in Rome

BENEFIT FOR PAT PHILLIPS
On Sunday, May 24 5-9 pm at the Grill at the Dome there will
be a benefit to assist the family of Pat Phillips who was diag-
nosed with kidney cancer late last year. He underwent surgery
last December at Roswell Park and the surgeons successfully
removed the kidney along with the tumor. Unfortunately, further
treatment will be necessary in the coming months to combat the
cancer. Pat has been unable to work since the surgery.
Family and friends will be holding this benefit to assist the
family with the growing medical bills and expenses. Tickets to
the benefit will be sold for $20.00 per ticket. Food and drink is
included in the ticket price. There will also be raffles, 50/50
drawing, silent auctions and games.
