Literacy I can identify my sounds.
This sound card is also on our school website to make it a bit bigger for the children to look at.
Warm UpIn school, we always start Literacy by revising our letter sounds. Have a little look at the sounds below. Close your eyes and point your finger at a sound. Which sound have you pointed to? Can you think of a word which has this sound in it or a word that begins with this sound?
On your little whiteboards or on a piece of paper, choose 4 sounds to practise the formation of. For example: you might practise writing ou, er, ar, th. You might want to try writing these in different colours.
This sound card is also on our school website to make it a bit bigger for the children to look at.

“Before you begin your numeracy it would be a good idea to do something to relax. On the school website under ‘Primary 1a’ you will find a Mindfulness Grid. It has some lovely activities on it. Choose one that you would like to do now.” Or, you might want to try an activity from our P1 Play Grid.

Learning through play In Primary 1, learning through play is very important to us. Take some time to play a game or time to play with toys you may have at home.

Tree Topic We are learning to describe the different things that Trees give us.
Some of the things which Trees give us:
We are enjoying learning about the topic of Trees in Primary 1. We have learned about the different parts of a tree and have looked at and identified different varieties of trees. Today, we are going to look at the different things which trees give us. Listen to the story ‘Trees’ by Harry Behn. This is a rhyming poem which describes things which trees give us and why they are important to us. When listening to the story and following the wave, listen out for some reasons why trees are important to us. In the story, it says ‘Trees are the kindest thing I know’. Why do you think the author has said this? Why are trees kind to us? Is it because of all the wonderful things they give us and do for us? On your whiteboard or paper, draw some pictures of some of the things which trees give us or do for us. You might want to write a sentence or a word to go with your picture. I have written down some ideas of my own.I’m looking forward to seeing your ideas.

Reading / Story Time
We are learning to listen to a story for enjoyment and say what we liked/ disliked about the story.
In class we have been enjoying reading the stories of Kipper, Biff and Chip. You might want to also try listening to one of the stories of Kipper, Biff and Chip on Oxford Owl. The story ‘Big Feet’ is a good one. Try to play the activities after listening to the story too.
Advice to access Oxford Owl – also on school website.
