Club Membership InformationAnnual membership dues for the Long Beach MG Club are $30 .00, payable during January and February . On April 1, the names of delinquent members are removed from the roster . Reinstatement is possible through December of the current year . Please refer to your Constitution for this provision . For those who seek membership during the year, dues are pro-rated on a monthly basis . The initiation fee for new members is $5 .00 .

Club meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at 8:00 p .m . at College Park Clubhouse, 808 Stevely Ave ., Long Beach .

Hi Everyone, So, we are still in this thing! We have been able to keep in touch with each other via our "Weekly LBMG Online Social" every Wednesday at noon on Zoom . It is really great to see people that we haven't seen in a long time! Also, don't forget, we also are holding our BoG and GM meetings online, and we have more people attending! I really hope that more of you will join us, both at the LBMG Social and the GM meetings . If you would like to attend our BoG meetings, please send me an email and I will gladly send you an invitation . Watch your email for the invite to the Weekly LBMG Online Social and the General Membership meeting! Rebirth of an MGB Submitted by Ken Thomas

My 1971 MGB Roadster was acquired on July 7th 2002 . It came to me as a rolling chassis with an engine and not much else . The engine was an aluminum 1961 215 cubic inch Buick V8 . This was the same engine that MG installed in the MGB GT V8, except those engines were built by Rover . The engine was kept here at my house while the chassis on my trailer was stored in Pomona . On Thanksgiving weekend in 2015 I became curious about the engine and removed a valve cover . Looking back at me were 8 brand new valve spring retainers . Could this engine have been rebuilt? It was immediately installed on my engine stand where I removed the oil pan . The pan was clean inside and there was assembly lube on all the bearings . Next I installed a radiator and starter motor and got the engine to run . It ran great, no smoke or unusual noises . The car was returned from Pomona and I began to reassemble it . There is a business in Michigan which specializes in parts for MGB V8 conversions . New rear springs and a narrowed Chevrolet S10 rear axle were purchased and installed . A 1983 Ford 5 speed transmission was fitted to the engine along with new motor mounts and it was installed into the car . Parts were engineered to install a new aluminum radiator, exhaust, carburetor linkage and a new Chevrolet brake master cylinder and booster . A new wiring loom and new Auto Meter gauges completed the electrical system . Everything was protected by fuses and relays . By the Fall of 2018 the car was running and drivable . The car was trailered to AAA who inspected it and issued a new registration, license plates and insurance . The car was road tested and many small and large faults were rectified.

In December 2019 the car was completely disassembled and trailered to the body shop for paint . The paint shop was one I knew from when I /was a Snap On Tools dealer in Montebello . Joe had painted three other cars that I own and I have always liked his work . We chose a medium green color. Joe also rebuilt the original MG fiberglass hard top which we painted artic white an original MG color . My friend John Franks (who has been helping me all

along with this project) and I began to carefully resemble the car . There is an u n b e l i e v a b l e number of small parts (some big ones also) to install . The engine was reinstalled at the end of June .

Rebirth of an MGB Continued: There is still much work to do before the car can be reunited with the road . The interior is the next big thing as is finishing the electrical system. Stay tuned for the next installment . Everyone stay safe and healthy, see you at the virtual meetings .

Brewster Gray delivered the first TC in June 1949 to Ross Sherwood (it was red, had a chrome radiator shell, tall wire wheels, a right-hand driver's seat and a 1250cc engine) . The second went to Jim Easton and the third to Dale Halliday & Vic Trodd . Brewster Gray was the pioneer imported-car dealer but he had no service facilities and the early TC owners depended on Dale Halliday and Vic Trodd at the Smith & Jones garage, 100 East Pacific Coast Highway. Clarence Covert was in charge of sales for Brewster Gray. Dr . Hammer and Jim Easton hung a sign out inviting TC owners to sign up if they were interested in forming an MG club. The first meeting was at Dr. Hammer's apartment. The second meeting was at Sam Caldwell's where Dan Dickinson was named President, Jim Easton Vice President and Kay Hammer Secretary-Treasurer . They were granted a charter with the Home Centre as the Southern California Centre of the MG Car Club of England in 1952 . Jim Easton and Dan Dickinson designed the club badge and emblem which features a replica of the TC spinner hub . The first club rally had 10 cars, covered fifty miles, had one check point, was won by Dot and Dan Dickinson and rated pictures in the local paper and Road & Track .

Board of Governors Meeting Minutes July 2nd, 2020

President Sandi Sherwood called the meeting of the Long Beach MG Club Board of Governors to order at 7:32 p .m ., using Zoom .

Members Present: Jim Elsten, Juanita Fast, Marilyn Gettys, Stephanie Himmelberger, Phil Glumm, Richard Sherwood, Sandi Sherwood, Ken Thomas, Amy Tulk, and Jim Tulk .

Guests: Bonnie Elsten, Greg Fast, Merry Glumm, and Marie Thomas

Minutes: A motion to accept the June 2020 minutes as published in the July 2020 Spokesman was made by Ken Thomas and seconded by Phil Glumm . Approved by all, none opposed, no abstentions .

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Marilyn Gettys explained that the only expense had been $3 for the bank service fee, so she did not type up a report . Marilyn presented bills to be paid for meetings, and the post office box . Marilyn also explained that she had received dues payments from two members . A motion to pay the bills was made by Stephanie Himmelberger, and seconded by Juanita Fast . Approved by all, none opposed, Sandi and Richard Sherwood abstaining .

Membership: Membership Chairman Jim Tulk will be receiving the information from the two members who just renewed, as Marilyn has said that she will send it to him .

Social: Social Chairman Juanita Fast reported that the club is having a weekly social event, using Zoom, on Wednesdays at noon . President Sandi Sherwood will email a link to anyone who is interested .

Events: Events Chairman Ken Thomas led the discussion of the events:Double Day - Rallymaster Ken Thomas explained that he will be receiving more chemotherapy, and that because of that Double Day will be re-scheduled to next year .Great Western – Rallymaster Greg Fast reported that the date of November 14 has been set .St . Nix Trix – Rallymaster Amy Tulk stated that the rallye will be on Sunday Dec . 6, the first weekend in December .

Concours: Concours Chairman Ken Thomas reported that the committee met at City Hall, but that he is not aware if it was well attended . The new dates may be September 12 & 13, 2020 .

Raffle: Raffle Chairman Ken Thomas explained that there will be the new normal raffle, and that the prize will be something out of his bag of tricks .

Points: Points Chairman Amy Tulk reported that the good guy points schedules through the June meeting were updated and sent for publishing in the July Spokesman .

Flagging: Flag Marshal Jim Tulk stated that there was nothing to report .

Spokesman: Spokesman Editor Sandi Sherwood stated that the July Spokesman was published online and mailed on June 30 .

Website: Webmaster Sandi Sherwood reported that the website has been updated with patriotic music .

Merchandise: Marilyn Gettys explained that she has the merchandise inventory at her house .

LBGP: Sandi Sherwood stated that there is nothing to report .

Old Business:1 . Sandi Sherwood asked for an update on the updated General Regulations . Ken Thomas explained that he has received and reviewed the updated version, and that he will send his comments to Phil Glumm . Jim Tulk explained that he has received and reviewed the updated version, and found a few errors, mostly missing punctuation .2 . Sandi Sherwood explained that she has received (from the committee of Lois, Marie, and Linda) the responses to the letter regarding the by-laws changes, and that she will distribute copies to the board members . She noted that both the articles and the by-laws will need to be changed . Discussion followed whether the new number should be fixed at 8, or a range from 6 to 10, or 8 to 10 . It appears that the majority prefer the range of 6 to 10 . It was noted that we will also need to revise the definition of a quorum . Sandi also remarked that December is not a deadline .

New Business: None

Announcements: Both Marilyn Gettys and Sandi Sherwood remarked that they had found disinfectant wipes!

Meeting Adjourned: Jim Elsten made a motion that the meeting be adjourned, which was seconded by Richard Sherwood and approved by all . The meeting was adjourned at 8:14 p .m .

General Membership Meeting MinutesJuly 9th, 2020

President Sandi Sherwood brought the 846th consecutive monthly meeting of the Long Beach MG Club to order at 7:04 p .m .

The meeting was held on Zoom, and was well attended .

Board Members Present: Jim Elsten, Marilyn Gettys, Juanita Fast, Phil Glumm, Stephanie Himmelberger, Sandi Sherwood, Richard Sherwood, Ken Thomas, Amy Tulk, and Jim Tulk .

Guests: Several sweet cats . Guests: Greeter Lois Gettys noted that all in attendance belonged, and that there were no guests .

Minutes: President Sandi Sherwood called for any additions or corrections to the June minutes as published in the July Spokesman . Jim Elsten made a motion that the minutes be accepted as published . The motion was seconded by Ken Thomas . All in favor, none opposed, no abstentions .

Treasurer’s Report: Treasurer Marilyn Gettys read the bank account balances as of July 2, 2020, and explained that there had been no income, and only $3 in expenses for the bank service fee .

Committee Reports:

Membership: Membership Chairman Jim Tulk reported that there have been a couple of renewals come in .

Social: Social Chairman Juanita Fast reported that there was nothing to report .

Events: Events Chairman Ken Thomas led the discussion of events .Double Day – Ken explained that the rallye has been postponed until next year .Great Western – November 11, 2020 .St . Nix Trix – December 13, 2020 .

Concours: Concours Chairman Ken Thomas explained that there had been a meeting last week, but that no decisions had been made .

Points: Points Chairman Amy Tulk reported that the good guy points will be calculated through tonight’s meeting, and will be sent for publishing .

Flagging: Flag Marshall Jim Tulk explained that there was nothing to report .

Raffle: Ken Thomas explained that he was still issuing numbers to members as they join the meeting, and that he will draw the winning number after the meeting .

July GM Meeting Minutes Continued:

Spokesman: Editor Sandi Sherwood reported that the July issue was published and is on the website, and the printed copies have been mailed .

Website: Webmaster Sandi Sherwood reported that the website has been updated .

Merchandise: Merchandise Chairman Marilyn Gettys reminded that the merchandise is in her back room .

Grand Prix: Bob and Barbara Funk reported that the Grand Prix is scheduled for April 2021 .

Raffle: The numbers, having been assigned, were drawn: #10, Merry Glumm won the raffle and she selected a Target gift card .

Clean Car: Sandi Sherwood explained that the clean car needs to be able to be driven to the meeting to be eligible . Sandi chose Iler Ganz to be the one to select the clean car, and Ken and Donna Puryear’s fiat was chosen .

Old Business:1 . Sandi Sherwood explained that she had received responses regarding the proposed changes to the by-laws . She explained that most people seemed to prefer that there be a range from 6 to 10 . Sandi explained that she will prepare the exact wording of the proposal in time for the next meeting .2 . Sandi Sherwood requested an update regarding the new Generals, there followed discussion between Phil Glumm, Ken Thomas and Jim Tulk .

New Business: NoneAnnouncements: Amy Tulk asked if anyone had spoken to Morris Berens . Jim Elsten explained that he had tried to call, but there had been no answer, and that he will go by and see him .

Letter From The Editor: What Have You Been Up Too?

I would like everyone to send me an article on how you found the LBMG Club . It can be short or long, it can have photos . I think it would be great to see how everyone found the club! If you didn't come to the club by a family member it would probably be a bit longer . I encourage everyone to submit something . After all, we all found the club somehow! Remember, people in the club are spread all over, so please send me an article about what you have been up to so that the rest of the club can keep up to date!

I put a short bit in my presidents message, so you can see what a small blurb could be . I encourage everyone to submit something, I believe it will help break up your day! Remember, people in the club are spread all over, so you may have an idea of something to do that no one has thought of .
