MIAMIJeffrey Irwin, photography student interning at Mod-ern Luxury magazine

The assignments I get are wonderful. I’ve mostly been shooting portraits, which I love doing, so I’m happy. I’ve been shooting very in-teresting artists and oth-er people from Miami. The other day I got the oppor-tunity to meet and shoot Danny DeVito on a 157’ yacht. It was an incredible experience and one that I will never forget. He was a great guy and the expe-rience made me feel more comfortable shooting celeb-rities. I believe the maga-zine trusts me and feels comfortable sending me on important assignments.

The school is preparing me to be a professional pho-tographer. I am already comfortable with real world situations and have been paid for many jobs as well. The school is great with making connections and networking possibilities.

BOULDERDavid Brandorff, copywriting stu-dent interning at CP+BWe’re having an amazing intern experi-ence at CP+B! Sorry I haven’t written sooner. Erin and I just learned we’re having an interactive/in-store campaign produced for Burger King. We’ve also come pretty close to selling some work for WD-40 and Volkswagen.Summer is the busiest time for interns at CP+B. There are over 20 creative interns here from the top schools all over the country. We were completely prepared for advertising at this level. We had a meeting with Bill Wright the associate creative director on Burger King. He was impressed at the breadth of our experience, having been to New York, Amsterdam and London. Going to these cities and being in these agencies gave us an edge. The edge we need to make sure that Miami Ad School eats the lunch of all the other schools with interns at Crispin Porter+Bogusky.Always Hungry for Advertising,David

NEW YORKBrian Frost, copywriting student interning at Draft FCBJust wanted to give you an update on a campaign that Isaac and I sold for Aquaphor healing ointment. The campaign is currently running as outdoor here in NYC.It was a lot of fun working with tattoo artists from all over the city. There’s nothing quite as satisfying as seeing a passerby stop and look at your work.

MANILAMing-Mei Hung, art direc-tion student interning at BBDO

Thank you again for setting me up with BBDO in the Philippines. It has been a fantastic internship. They have been really wonderful to me. Our Gillette Ve-nus work is being produced this week so my partners and I are flying over to Singapore for the shoot. It will be sad for me to leave. Thank you again!

NEW YORKVanessa Luchtan, graphic de-sign graduate

I am still very much loving my job in NYC. I can’t believe how quickly ev-erything happened after graduation and how many Miami Ad School alums I have encountered in my time here. Thanks again for all of

your help and all the job postings you continue to email.I’m not sure if CMYK emailed you, but Sarah Cazee and I are having a joint project printed in the next issue. We are both in the current issue as well. We are really excited about it, and I wanted to share it with you in case you didn’t know. I also just saw a promotion piece I did while at school in the current HOW international design annual. Thanks again, hope all is well!

PARISJulie Bojorquez , art direction student on Quarter Away at the Ogilvy GreenhouseOHMIGOD PARIS IS GREAT!! Ogilvy is AWESOME! Chris Ga-rabbu is the Executive Creative Director, and he is soooo smart and amazing! I’m proud to say that my team and I are kicking ass and representing the school quite well. We were given a couple of live briefs. One of them is for Dura-cell. We produced an entire 360 campaign. They loved it. They are pitching it to the client on Monday! Our idea is out there, but the CD is really pushing for ours to get picked. We were also given Grazia Mag. The agency presented two of our ideas to the client and the client picked one! Things are still being sorted out, and it’s not for sure that the magazine will use our ideas, but either way they still liked them. Everyone has been really nice and I think they are really starting to appreciate the good work we are doing. Ogilvy has been including our work in presentations, and are keeping us super updated with the briefs. It’s been crazy 16-hour days, but I’m going to have some cool stuff for my portfolio. Thanks for all your help!

BUDAPESTJorge Rodriguez, art direction student interning at DDB

At first I really didn’t know where or what I was getting into, but It turned out great. Budapest is a place where you can meet people from all over the world. It’s the place where the festivals are as different as the deli-cious cuisine. Once you get here, you can’t leave! It’s very easy to get used to this city.

DDB is an agency with eight nation-alities, great clients, and amazing co-workers. We consider ourselves a fam-ily. I say “we” because they made me feel like a part of the family -- with a bar in the reception area, a NINTENDO Wii for those extreme gamers, and, of course, a foosball table. It’s practically as if you were at your very expensive home all day. I really recommend all of you to have an internship here at DDB Budapest. You won’t regret it.

AMSTERDAMSAN FRANCISCO MIAMIJennifer Barger, design stu-dent on Quarter Away at two Base Schools and Pindakaas GreenhouseAmsterdam is amazing. It is a city that celebrates creativity in all forms; as a designer, you have to go. The city is out of a story book. The teachers we had helped us ap-proach and see design in a whole new light. The Greenhouse agency, Pindakaas, gave us the top floor to spread out in, and that’s where we held classes. The other designers and I had classes with Victor from Pindakaas, Wim from Boomerang (an agency that does publication design), Martin from 180, and, of course, with the ever-amazing Clare McNally. We did everything from the most abstract art projects and books you can imagine, to working on new campaigns for brands such as, BMW and Adidas. At the end, we planned a city-wide agency party with Pindakaas, at which we each presented our own art installations. Good stuff. We even had time to travel around a bit after the quarter. From there I went back to the States to intern in San Francisco at Hal Riney. I fell in love with the city immediately; the internship was pretty great as well. Here, I did story-boarding, comping and con-cepting. I learned about agency life and how things work. I also learned a lot about designing for online spaces, something that all we will have to do wherever we go. After a brief stint back in Miami to take A Brand Called You class with Ron (which was a fantastic class), I’m back in San Francisco, taking a Portfolio class with Ron via face-2-face and I couldn’t be happier!

MINNEAPOLISSitha Ngy, art direction student on Quarter Away at a Base School and Fallon GreenhouseWhat made me stay in Minneapolis for three quarters (and counting), when I was only planning on stay-ing for one? The cars? I mean, they do drive some WICKED stock model Saturns and GMC trucks here. Maybe the land marks? Does snow count as a landmark? Or maybe...MAYBE it’s the crazy, sexy, don’t-tell-mom-what-we-just-did-because-eating-so-much-cotton-candy-is-bad-for-you, uberly fast-paced life of county fairs and water parks!?Who knows? All I know is, I’m in love with this place. And, I believe that to do great work (which I have, thanks to the Minneapolis vibe - winning numer-ous awards from The Show, CYMK, New Creatives, 10 Second Film Festi-val, and being mentioned in Creative Quarterly) you have to love what you’re doing, as well as loving where you’re at in life (both mentally and physically). Luckily for me, I was able to find that in Minneapolis. The perception is that this place is slow-paced and simple, but it’s the complete opposite. My time at Car-michael Lynch Thorburn, as one of their freelance designers, was insanely hectic and busy (not going to bed till at least 4 in the morning every night). And Fallon....I don’t even know what to say about Fallon, except for watch out...they’ve worked me like a DOG (I’ve slept a total of 6 hours...THIS WEEK)! And I love it.So, for anyone UNinterested in Min-neapolis... I completely understand. And I want you to keep your prejudice. Because, honestly, I want to keep this place to myself.

NEW YORKRoy Torres, art direction student on Quarter Away at the Lowe Green-houseFinally, D&AD is over and this is the last week of classes. I just wanted to say that NY has treated me very well and I’m super excited to be staying in the city next quarter. The Lowe Greenhouse was great, they gave us plenty of opportunities to work on live briefs. Classes also went really well. I think Hunter and Adam were my favorite, they really pushed us to do our best. Carlo also had amazing feedback, in which we hope to win at D&AD because of him.

DUBAIDavid Christensen, art direction student interning at TBWAMy internship in Dubai was an amazing experience. I felt I was a real art director instead of an intern. TBWA\RAAD is about 200 people including the PR and interactive branches of the agency. The agency is located in a brand new office building right next to the tallest building in the world, the Burj Dubai. There are 27 nationalities in the agency and the people are all very friendly and cool. My creative director was American and we quickly became friends.

The city as a whole, and the agency, is mostly made up of a mix of Indian, Lebanese, Australian, and British people. Dubai has been rated the safest place in the world for several years. There is essen-tially zero crime here. I’ve never felt safer in my entire life. I feel less safe in my suburban hometown in Michigan, than I did in Dubai. The agency is very bright and colorful and even has a small basketball court in the middle of it which doubles as a meeting room with grandstand seating. There is also an area called “The Garden” with big windows and fake grass and beanbag chairs where you can brainstorm and conduct meetings. Definitely the coolest office I’ve ever seen in person by a long shot. The very first day we were given 3 briefs. Most of the time, the stuff we worked on was for big clients or for important pitches; which was very exciting. The work can’t get too racy, because it is in an Islamic country, but they are still very open to creativity. It was fascinating to get a completely different perspec-tive on the world. For any ladies worried about not being taken seriously in Dubai because of Islamic tradition: don’t worry about that at all. The women in the agency are treated the same as they would be in any office in Europe or America.

As you can see, I could go on and on about my experiences there, and it was definitely a life-changing 10 weeks that I’ll never forget.

AMSTERDAMJeremy Kinder, art direction graduateFun news from Amsterdam! The star of our MTV show was offered three solid career options and she chose to go to Miami Ad School! Now that’s good publicity! Millions of 18-24 year olds in Belgium and the Netherlands will now hear about Miami Ad School, and see someone enthusiastically choose it to start their career there.Thought you might wanna pass on the news. We’ll send you some footage as soon as we can!

PARISMihnea Gheorghiu, copy-writing student on Quarter Away at the Ogilvy Green-house

We’ve been in Paris for two weeks now and everything is great!! I hadn’t expect-ed to like it this much.

Agency-wise...what can I say? Last week, we went to TBWA. I started shivering when I got in the agency. TBWA is one of the reasons I got into advertising so it was like one dream down, 9,973 to go.

At Ogilvy we have our own office and six nice Cannes briefs - all cli-ents - to work on. The people here are very re-laxed and very friendly. I love this city. And I love the people. Women are hubba-hubba nice. And all you see around is fashion and trends.

The apartment we found is cool. It’s in the city, and we are one minute away from a train station. It usually takes us 35 minutes by train to get to the agency, and 20 min. to the Louvre. I heard this is heaven for Paris. Sorry for the long email but please understand my excitement. It’s wonderful!

BRUSSELSRobin Stam, copywriting student and graduate on interning at Duval GuillaumeWhy go to Brussels? For one good reason: the advertising. I went there to do an internship for one of the top agencies in Europe: Duval Guillaume. Everything about this agency rocks. When I first walked in I saw a huge corridor where you can look up five levels to the roof.

And around this corridor there are balconies where people work. The creative directors, Peter and Katrien, are extremely nice and down to earth people who have a great sense of humor. If you want to know how many different shapes and sizes of advertising awards there are, you can take a look upstairs where there’s a big shelf of any award possible. Cannes Lions, Clio’s, Eurobest awards, Epica awards, and about a hundred small hats (the Belgian award).About the Belgian advertising scene: it is really creative. That’s what makes Belgium so interesting. In the agency, all the creatives are really modest, although every-body has won at least a couple of awards. It’s an attitude I really liked. People really seem to have fun making advertising. After I graduated from Miami Ad School I got an offer from Duval Guillaume. I’m working here now.

CHICAGOJeremy Straight, copywriting student interning at DDBChicago is great. They are keep-ing us busy at DDB. They have us working on multiple assignments. Lissy and I sold some work to a client last week, so we are off to a good start. The people at the agency are really nice and cool. They are taking care of us, too. We have an office and desktop computers. We work two doors down from Bill Cimino, the guy responsible for the “Real Men of Genius” campaign for Bud Light, so that is pretty cool.Class is going well. Jamie Over-kamp is teaching us how to make sure our books don’t look like other student books. He’s giving us in-teresting clients to work with, and having us do a lot of new media projects to keep our books looking fresh and original.

MOSCOWThomas Kuhn & Ratko Cin-dric intern team at Saatchi

Ten weeks flew by. In Mos-cow, everything goes fast; the cab driver that picks you up at the airport and drives 120 kmh through the city, or the production of an ad campaign. We worked on lots of briefs, mostly P&G, like Ariel and Safe Guard, Sony Ericsson, a Russian fruit juice, and some pitches. Some of our ideas are still in prog-ress; others have already been produced. We had a good time with the guys from Saatchi and they helped us in the world out-side the agency.

Page 11: Sticker Book

Saatchi is comprised of about 68 employees, with 3-4 creative teams. The advertising market in Rus-sia grows like no other. We had a good time in Moscow, and found some friends over there. Maybe we will even move there after graduation! Spasiba Mockba

SHANGHAIDavid Aronson & Juri Zaech intern team at Wieden & KennedyAfter 20 hours of flying and 30 club sandwiches I finally arrived. This was my first time in Asia and I loved it. I was (and am) really amazed by China and its people. Our time in the agency was an experi-ence itself; it was a mix of western and Chinese people. From the first day we were treated as family. We came to know many wonderful people. We worked hard, as all people at the agency. Even though we worked most of the time, we still had time to see many things in Shanghai. It’s very hard for me to explain how Shanghai was, because for me it was such an amazing, and unique experi-ence. I have never missed a country so much after coming home as China, and if you ever get the chance to go, you should. It will change you, and give you a new perspective on life.

HAMBURGTara Lawall, copywriting student on Quarter Away at a Base SchoolHamburg is a surprisingly beautiful city. I thought it would be industrial and gray and awful and cold, but it is really beautiful. The transit system is amazing, clean, efficient. It doesn’t have that glorious urine stank that they have in “the states.”Miami Ad School Europe. Excellent. Teachers are great. Plenty of room to work. Niklas (the director) is very approachable and friendly. The office people are quirky and a lot of fun. The school has a very warm feeling. Their gallery of work is also very, very impressive. I was so excited by the level of work and the seriousness of the school. I would recommend every student do a quarter at the Ham-burg school.

NEW YORKIñaki Mendez, copywriting student interning at The Vidal Partnership

It’s a month since I arrived in New York, and it seems I got here yester-day. Everything is going so fast, and I am having such a great experience, that I don`t realize what day it is. Here at Vidal Partnership, it’s like my home. I am learning so many things here, I could almost write a book.

People are great in this agency. They have treated me as family since I began my internship. They give me a lot of briefs to work on, they listen to me, and they take me into account for everything. I have worked on several briefs. There are three Miami Ad School graduates working here and they take care of me. Some days I feel like I need another 24 hours to do all the things I want. But that`s good also.

At the house, everything is cool. I feel bad not having more time to spend with the guys, but we get along well. It’s great living with people that have the same lifestyle, because you can talk sincerely about anything that concerns you. It`s a nice experience, and I feel that I have a great oppor-tunity to learn even more if I move to other places and see other things.

Anyway this is an awesome experi-ence. I could never imagine it was go-ing to be like this. I’m looking forward to hearing from you soon.

MadridAbraham García and Maialen Gorricho, art direction/copywriting team at their Base School.

We want to share with you our experience at the Cannes Lions Competition. It was such an incredible opportunity especially for students.

It all started when we won the national competi-tion. The jury selected our work from that of 400 other young creative teams to represent Spain in the Young Lions Print competi-tion in Cannes.

We enjoyed ourselves very much, and although we didn’t win a Lion (this time), we gained very good friends from all over the world and came back with the satisfaction (although we already knew it) that the advertising profes-sionals respect the work that Miami Ad School does with its students.

We were happily surprised. When creative directors discovered we were from

Miami Ad School, they gave us their business cards. It’s been an incredible experience that we’ll never forget! Big hugs for everybody.

P.S. The parties are in-credible!

MIAMI AND DUBAIGabriela Pezo, copywriting graduate I just want to say: thank you so much for Miami Ad School.I spent the most amazing times with the craziest, funniest people. Wow, what an experience! And, as I said on the the day of my gradu-ation, Stand-up Comedy class was fantastic.

For some reason on one of my interviews here in Dubai, the topic of the end of the quarter Stand-up Comedy act came up and the ECD wanted me to perform my routine right then and there. I choked but remembered that I had put my act on YouTube and played it from there. He loved it and hired me!Thank you for having stand-up comedy in the curriculum. It made no sense to me why we would have to take such a class, and now, that is the one class I refer to the most. Hugs from the desert.

NEW YORKLissy Anger and Erika Fad intern team at McGarry/BowenIt’s kinda like the Muppets Take Manhattan, only, it’s Erika and Lissy take McGarry/Bowen. Only, instead of muppets, we’ve got Germans!! And Spaniards! Puerto Ricans! Asthmatics! Brazilians! And...this list goes on.So far life at the agency is great. We have a great bunch of people to work with, not to mention some of the coolest clients. I spent all last week working on concepts for the Wall Street Journal. Pretty soon we’ll be working on Crayola. HOW COOL!We have classes every Monday at Saatchi & Saatchi. Our teachers are incredible. Not to mention the agency. Bonnie is great too!! Bonnie is the Chairperson of Miami Ad School who also works with the students while they are in New York City.

SAN FRANCISCOBarbara Leao & Berta Sanchez, art direction students on Quar-ter Away at a Base School

We love San Francisco. It is amaz-ing and the school is great!

The design they teach here is really good. Our favorite teach-ers are Nelson Carnicelli the Web Design teacher and Laura Penny, The Improv teacher. The way Nel-son speaks is really funny. (We’re learning a lot of curse words from him, haha.) Laura is completely crazy, but we enjoy dancing, brainstorming, presenting, and performing in her class.

Last weekend, we spent a typical Halloween night, and went out with all the Miami students. We have already visited Alcatraz, and the SF view from there is amazing, you can see the whole city! Cheers!
