September 10, 2009 Date Line: USA Wall Street Close Up for 4th session running Re-cap of the US Stock Market Action on September 9, 2009 US stocks closed higher for a 4th day running on Wednesday, driving the S&P 500 to its best finish on the year. The advance on the NAS was limited by Apple Inc. as if fell 1% to US$171.14/shr.
The DJIA was up 49.88 pts, or 0.53%, to close at 9,547.22, the S&P 500 was up 7.98 pts, or 0.78%, at 1,033.37 on the day, the NAS was up 22.62 pts, or 1.11%, to end the session at 2,060.39, and the The Russell 2000 rose 10.02, or 1.7%, closing at 586.40.
US Crude Oil settled at US$71.31bbl and Gold trade tapped near US$1,000 oz.
.The Federal Reserve's Beige Book survey showed half of Federal Reserve districts saw evidence the US economy had improved by the end of August, as labor markets remained weak and retail sales flat overall.
Volume and Breadth: Advancers outpaced decliners by about 5-to-2 on the NYSE, the volume came to 1.2M/shrs. compared with 1.3B/shrs on Tuesday.
Bond prices mostly rose. The yield on the benchmark 10 yr T-Note was flat at 3.48%t from late Tuesday.
Overseas, Japan's Nikkei stock average fell 0.8%, Britain's FTSE 100 rose 1.2%, Germany's DAX rose 1.7%, and France's CAC-40 advanced 1.3%.
