Alberta Culture Days began in 2008 as Alberta Arts Day, a one-day event to recognize the value of Alberta's arts and cultural communities. Now a vibrant, three-day, province wide celebration, it has helped inspire Culture Days – a cross-Canada movement raising awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. In 2013 Albertans discovered, experienced and celebrated arts, heritage, cultural diversity, creative industries, non- profit/voluntary organizations and provincial pride with over 1,450 events in 66 communities across the province. In 2014, Stony Plain is proud to be a Feature Celebration Site as 92 organizations in 50 communities encourage Albertans to discover the important contributions of culture to a prosperous and vibrant society. ALL EVENTS ARE FREE (excluding the Food Trucks at the Street Concert on Friday and the Alberta à la Carte Dinner on Saturday evening from 5-7pm). THURSDAY sept. 25 Author Visit & Book Reading with Leacock Award Winner Cassie Stocks 7pm-8:30pm An intimate evening of fun and laughter! Cassie is the first woman author to win the Leacock Medal since 1996 and one of only six women ever to have won this award. FREE–TICKET REQUIRED. THIS EVENT HAS LIMITED SEATING. TICKETS AVAILABLE AT THE LIBRARY. (Pre-booking is recommended) 40 Years of Memories The Multicultural Heritage Centre opened its doors to the public on September 15, 1974 and for the past four decades has served the community through remembering and celebrating agricultural heritage and rural values.
