    Stop Food Adulteration, Save Lives

The prevalence of food poisoning and adulteration has become the severe problem in the

country. Nonexistence of effective, coordinated and well managed system of food control is

creating an enormous burden on the state's public health and ominously dropping theproductivity of population.

Everywhere it is the similar picture from reputed chain shops to major kitchen markets in the

capital. For say in the season of Fruits (e.g. mango, orange) production fair of fruits can be found

in different populated places mentioning in the banner or billboard as formalin free but no unlike.

Researchers and experts said near about 79 % food items in the market were found adulterated

and every days print or electronic media reflect this scenario.

Severe diseases including kidney failure, liver complications, heart attack, cancer and other non-

curable diseases are increasing day by day in the country due to extensive food contamination

and rampant use of pesticides on vegetables and the demand has been raised by consumers to

stand against it. The concerned authority applies laws to protect food from contamination.

    On 15th

July in 2012, the High Court issued a rule allowing special powers to law enforcers to

arrest food adulterators and Govt. approved the draft of 'Safe Food Act-2013' that proposes

provision of maximum jail term of seven years.

We see in daily newspaper often that several

    thousand kilograms of chemically-modified seasonal

and other fruits have been destroyed and punished

by mobile court even in spite of taking all these

steps, adulteration of food items seem to be

continued. Why? Because this is fact that mere laws

are not enough to stop food adulteration and it is

fairly difficult job to stop food adulteration only

    through laws.

Thats why along with enforcing laws we have to find out the alternative ways and this might

    be

First, "we must create mass awareness to stop food adulteration and contamination aiming to

    avoid health burden."

Second, forming the monitoring team is most effective and the team must have representation

from all the parts of the task which will be involved in the implementation process.

Third, Prerequisite Programs to Control food Contamination and Consideration should be given

    to answers the following questions:

Who will be responsible for monitoring? How will the program be monitored? When and how

    often will you monitor?

Fourth, when the administration or authority does not carry out its own responsibilities properly,

it raises the duty of consumers to stand strongly against it.

Fifth, Government must form effective National Food Security Council in order to enforce law

against the dishonest food manufacturers and traders everywhere in the country to save lives.

Sixth, but it is also true that there are many examples where activities cannot be controlled only

by enacting strong laws and forming strong committees. The main problem is not with laws anddiscarding adulterated food items unitedly could be the vivacious step. So ultimately if the

consumers are not aware, active and demanding, then it seems that no law will come handy.

Finally, we humbly request to the government to yield all necessary steps to ensure food safety

for good health of the publics. Protect Food, Save Life.
