The Cloud File Server, as well as being available as a SaaS service, is also available as a dedicated hosted Appliance on services such as Amazon EC2 or Linode, and is also available to be hosted directly on-premise.

Any public or private clouds (or SaaS services) added to the File Server has information indexed, recorded, and made available from a single unified explorer type view. As users create new content and upload it to any of the Cloud and SaaS services that have been added to the Cloud File Server. Each service’s API is used to securely capture, store and index the files. Note that no content needs to be copied. All this is stored and accessed from the original repository.

The Cloud File Server administrator can create single shared views that encompass more than one repository ‘store’ and also control users and access control permissions above one or more information clouds.

User are able to access content from a native Cloud Drive on either Windows, Mac, or Linux. This is complimented with desktop to/from Cloud synchronization tools for files and folder.

The solution is also an enable for ‘Bring your own Device’ initiatives as mobile access can be from native applications on either iPhone, iPad, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone 7.

All web, desktop and mobile solutions have the same controls, restrictions and event auditing that are applied by the Cloud Administrator.

WHAT IS THE CLOUD APPLIANCE ?

The SME Cloud Appliance is a software platform that enables companies to enhance their existing storage or ‘Cloud’ proposition. The Platform is a multi-tenant solution that works with existing private storage clouds, and publicly available storage clouds. These clouds are unified for easy access and management. The Appliance can be very quickly configured to be a hybrid fileserver ‘front-end’ to existing storage clouds. It features user management, secure file sharing, access control, and event auditing / e-compliance features ‘built in’.

The Platform is delivered as a VMWARE Appliance* and can be integrated with over 35 storage Clouds, and works using meta-data ‘indexing’ technology that stores information about files that are hosted in one or more storage locations thus ensuring data does not have to be replicated (although it can be configured to do this as well for speedy access to files).

The Platform quickly enables access and integration points that encompass all variety of operating systems, and all major mobile and tablet vendors, and is an enabler for ‘Bring your own Device’.
