Who is Mickey?... David “Mickey” Crimmins and John “Bert” Mattson werethe original founders of Mickey’s Diner. Mickey’s Diner was built in New Jersey by the Jerry O’Mahoney Co. In 1937, the Diner was transported by flatbed railcar to its 7th and St. Peter Street location, where it has operated continuously, 24 hours a day, for over 80 years. Mickey’s was one of the first Diners to be built in Art Deco Style. Previous diners had been all white, whereas Mickey’s boasts a bright red and cream streamline design. Mickey’s Diner was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is one of the first diners to be designated as such. Mickey's Diner has been family operated for 3 generations and it is the one and only restaurant that continues to be operated by the Mattson family.
