In ihrem Weißbuch zur europäischen Verkehrspolitik von 2001 hat die Kommission das ehrgeizige Ziel vorgeschlagen, die Zahl der Straßenver-kehrstoten bis 2010 um die Hälfte zu senken. Das europäische Parlament und die im Rat versammelten Mitgliedstaaten unterstützen dieses Ziel.
Dieses Faltblatt zeigt die Situation im Jahr 2006 (bzw. 2005, falls Daten für 2006 nicht verfügbar sind) und die seit 2001 erzielten Fortschritte mit der Absicht, es den Mitgliedstaaten zu ermöglichen, sich untereinander zu vergleichen, und sie zu ermutigen, ihre Anstrengungen bei der Straßenverkehrssicherheit fortzusetzen.

In its 2001 White Paper on a European transport policy the Commission has proposed the ambitious goal of halving the number of deaths on our roads by 2010. The European Parliament and the Member States in the Council support this goal.
This leaflet shows the situation in 2006 (2005 when data from 2006 not available) and the progress made since 2001. Its purpose is to allow Mem-ber States to compare their situation and to encourage them to continue their efforts regarding road safety.

Dans son Livre blanc sur la politique européenne des transports de 2001,la Commission a proposé l’objectif ambitieux de réduire de moitiéle nombre des morts sur nos routes d’ici 2010. Le Parlement européenet les États membres au sein du Conseil ont souscrit à cet objectif.
Ce dépliant montre la situation en 2006 (ou 2005 quand les données de2006 ne sont pas disponibles) et les progrès faits depuis 2001. L’objectif estde permettre aux États membres de se comparer et de les encouragerà continuer à faire des efforts en matière de sécurité routière.
