Moving from Strategy to Meaningful Change and Growth

Organisational inertia is a powerful force, which often times can relegate the best of strategies to stay dormant and worthless on PowerPoint slides. When “we’ve tried this before and it does not work” becomes a mantra and almost a knee-jerk response, organisations face the adverse prospects of underperformance and declining growth. This situation is all the more exacerbated when an organisation finds itself in the middle of a seismic change such as a merger or a disruptive regulatory change. Driving successful strategy development in such conditions and overcoming this organisational inertia to create sustainable long term growth requires a laser focus on a few critical execution principles.

The session will cover the unique strategic scenario of the Recruiting Partnering Project - a partnership between Capita and the Army to deliver all Army Regular and Reserve recruiting over the next 10 years. In a volatile and increasingly challenging recruiting environment, the partnership has needed to respond by introducing strategic change across all areas of the solution. His work was principally divided between advising UK water companies and regulators and work in developing countries on utility privatisation and restructuring (for the World Bank, DFID and other international agencies). -

Developing and Delivering Strategy for a Regulated Utility

This presentation will set out the challenges of developing and executing strategy for a utility (in the UK privatised water sector).   The presentation will cover where the sources of value generation are;   how the regulatory regime is evolving and how this may effect value: how to influence the regulatory regime to protect value and deliver future value propositions;   developing   growth options outside of the regulated business.   The water sector in the UK is at an interesting juncture with the conclusion of the latest five-yearly price review with the most significant changes since privatisation (in 1989) and the introduction of competition for all non-household customers from April 2017.

Public Strategy – What’s The Difference?

Strategy in the public and non-profit sectors looks, feels and smells just like strategy in the corporate sector. But impressions can be misleading, and the differences really do matter. This session takes a whistle-stop tour of the similarities and differences between public and private sector strategy, and offers tips to ensure that both public and private sectors can get the best from each other when it comes to developing and delivering strategy.

E x e c u t i n g S t r a t e g y i n a D y n a m i c Environment

Today’s business environment is complex, competitive and fast-changing.  Developing robust strategy that stands the test of time is tough, but when strategy meets reality things inevitably get tougher.   Many plans fail to realise their potential value, wasting resources and time.  The strategy is not the problem, business needs to adapt its approach to strategy execution to fit a more dynamic environment.
