Different methods used to create street art

Spray Paint: free handThe first one people think of when they hear street art or graffiti. It's effective because all that's required is spray cans and the ability to spray.

Developments in technology make it easy for people to get spray paint and discover locations through the internet. When the paint gets removed it's still online or saved as images. Modern day you can use software to practise the graffitti.

My opinion of the 2 that I have chosen is the first one which says swank is good the colours work well together and blend seamlessly in the middle the ombre gradient is calm and the use of the opposing colours is like a yin yang effect.

The second is a bit all over the place but the colours are definitely eye catching and aren’t what you expect in the normal city scape.

Spray paint: stencil

Technology has made it easier to make stencils because the way you can take any image from the internet or that's been taken and use it to make a new stencil. This results in stencils being made of anything and everything. Technology has also made it easier to teach how stencils are made.

The pieces I have chosen are by banksy who demonstrates efficient use of stencils. I like both pieces for their use of negative spacing and their black tones which work well with their backgrounds. I especially like Rage, the flower throwing rioter because the idea of waging peace resonates with me and to most people.

Tiles Technology has developed so much so that you can effectively plan a mosaic without having to touch tile. You can get all the bits online in every colour and varying sizes and then plan it according to the dimensions. It's also easier to know what kind of cement to use for different types of wall. Finally it makes for a more permanent art as this type of art gets removed so the images online immortalise it.

I especially like space invaders work as it's a modern retro feel and it's really organised art but it carries a sense of randomness with it as it's not something you’d expect to see.

Printed/Poster

The printed/poster art is easier because of technology as there are more printers available which will print at a large scale and in full colour. This makes it accessible for almost anyone.

I like the first piece as it's placed in such a place that she appears to be watering the tree and it's almost a metaphor about how important children are to the future.

The second piece is the big bird by artist Mateus Bailon who’s work revolves around birds and wild colours this specific piece reminds me of kevin from UP.

Knitted/Yarn Bombing

This is when public objects like phone boxes or railings get knitted over as a way to enhance the looks of it. It's almost installation art. It's an art form that does no harm or damage to the environment or public space. It’s also less illegal as at most it's littering rather than vandalism.

I don’t particularly like this art form as it's long and time consuming and it requires an object to already to be there to do art around.

Reverse graffiti

Reverse graffiti is when you use power washers and cleaners to remove dirt off walls but in a distinct pattern to create art. It's not illegal as it's basically cleaning. The main purpose of reverse graffiti is to legally create art but it's also useful when creating art that's not very outstanding. I like this art style as it's legal and in some ways traditional and it relies on pre existing dirt rather than spray cans and posters. It's also easier and safer as it's pressurised water rather than chemicals.
