The advisory board meets the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 6:15 pm at Council Chambers.

Please come and participate in the important discussions.

1. The discussion of public recreational land use (active & passive), including the preservation and conservation of environmental areas of the City

2. Discussion of the community’s need for public education and outreach, public participation/involvement and recreational needs, and

3. Discussion of the development of funding sources to fund such projects.

Greeting from the Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department!

First I want to thank everyone for the continued support you have given to the Parks & Recreation department over the past few years. With your support we have

been able to increase our programming offerings, and start on much needed park improvements.

Please visit City Park and take a walk on the completed sections of the new Walking Path, complete the Family Treasure Hunt and take time to enjoy the outdoors. Stay connected with everything Parks & Recreation by signing up for our monthly newsletters and by being our friend on Facebook.

In other exciting news, the Parks & Recreation Department now accepts Credit Card payments for all of your favorite programs.

Program Registration

In Person: Visit the Parks & Recreation Department office located at Streetsboro City Hall, 9184 State Route 43, Streetsboro, OH 44241. By Mail: Completed registration forms can be mailed with full payment, check or money order, to 9184 State Route 43, Streetsboro, OH 44241. Make checks payable to “The City of Streetsboro.” Registration forms are also available online at www.cityofstreetsboro.com. Cancellations: Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any class or program which does not meet the minimum required participants. In the event your class is cancelled, we will notify you by phone. You may transfer to another class or program, receive a credit for a later class or program, or receive a refund. Program dates and times are subject to change on short notice. Refund Policy: Refunds or credits will be given for classes cancelled by the Parks & Recreation Department. Refunds will be granted if request is made 5 working days in advance of the first program date. A $5.00 administrative cost will be withheld. Refunds will not be granted once a program begins. Exceptions: Injury which prohibits participant’s involvement or a doctor’s statement of participant’s inability to participate. Please allow 3-4 weeks for refund by mail.

share? Instructors are always needed. Please contact one of

our Program Coordinators with any ideas or even a suggestion

you may have at 330-626-3802.

Smoking Policy

Fans/spectators are reminded that there is no smoking

permitted around the players, near the playing fields or in

City Hall. Fans/spectators will need to follow Streetsboro

City Schools policies for smoking during any Parks &

Recreation program or league.

Americans With Disabilities Act

This landmark civil rights legislation went into effect January

26, 1992. It was a significant step forward in the effort to

make our society’s services and opportunities fully available

to all Americans by combating barriers and prejudices that

confront those persons with special challenges and needs.

The Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department welcomes all

and enjoy programs regardless of race, color, religion, sex,

Unpredicted Closings/ Cancellations

When the City is under a level 2 weather advisory all

programs will be cancelled. For updated cancellations please

call our office at 330-626-3802.

Pets

All pets must be on a leash at all times when on City

property. Pets may be asked to leave and not return at the

discretion of the Parks & Recreation staff at any time.

You Snooze - You Lose

Don’t wait until the last minute to register for a program!

Most programs have participant minimum and maximums to

meet. Don’t lose out! A registration form is located in this

program guide.

Photo Release

Photographs may be taken at any program or facility of the

Parks & Recreation Department. Your image may be used for

promotional purposes.

Kick Start Cheerleading Ages: 3 - 5 years old

Participants will be introduced to the basic chants, cheers, and posture. The last day participants may have the opportunity to cheer at a sporting event.

Max. 20 participants per sport Kick Start Sports is geared for young children who want to play sports but are not old enough to join the regular league. All sports will be 5 - week programs held once a week. Parents are required to work with your child and be on the field or court at all times! Introduce your child to the exciting sport of gymnastics. Our themed based classes focus on fundamentals for boys and girls 18 months - 3 years. Each class will include group warm up, independent skill development time followed by group closing activity. Themes will change throughout the year and include creative skill building activities.

Age appropriate gymnastics for boys and girls 3.5 yrs - 5 yrs. Children will be introduced to beginning skills on floor, vault, bars and beam in these theme based classes. Our goal is to develop each child’s physical potential and increase self esteem by providing a successful experience in a non competitive class.

Fairytale Glitter and Glam

Extravaganza Ages: 3-6 Min. 6

Every girl has a dream of being in a fairytale. Girls, now is your chance to dress as a pretty princess and hang out with other girls with your same style. Enjoy a night of music, refreshments and breezy air outside in our courtyard. Games will be played and prizes will be awarded.

Little Goblins Ages: 2 – 5

Bring your little ghosts and goblins and join us for a safe and fun filled Halloween celebration. Children are asked to come in Costumes for the party. The children will enjoy doing crafts such as cookie and pumpkin decorating, making a photo frame, listening to a Halloween story. A memory keepsake photo will be taken as well. Refreshments will be provided. The children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the party. Pre-registration at the Parks & Recreation office is required. Gobble Gobble Gobble! It’s Thanksgiving time! Join us for this fun filled turkey day as we make turkey crafts, play turkey games and even sing along and do the turkey dance. All participants will eat a yummy Thanksgiving snack too. Don’t miss this opportunity for your child to participate and socialize with other children as we celebrate this holiday. Toddler Toy Time Sponsored by Step 2 Ages: 5 years old and under

When it’s time to get out of the house and run free, Toddler Toy Time just may be the answer. With a variety of toys to play with, children learn first hand from you how to share and play well with others. Parents/guardians are required to stay with the children the entire time. Little Elves Ages: 2 – 5

Join us for a party that celebrates everybody’s favorite holiday. Children are asked to dress for the holiday spirit; they will take part in cookie decorating, photo frame decoration, games, singing Christmas carols, a Christmas parade and have a picture taken with a “jolly old soul.” There will also be a “Santa’s Workshop”, and children will be able to purchase gifts for their parents. Please bring money for “Santa’s Workshop” Refreshments will be provided. The children must be accompanied by an adult throughout the party. Mother/ Son Movie Night Ages: 3 - 12

We will do everything that occurs at a slumber party, except for sleeping!! Join us for a movie in your pajamas. Bring whatever you feel is necessary to make this night exciting. Letter from the Past Ages: All

This is an opportunity to give “Future You” a message from the past! You will be receiving a letter from yourself 1 year from now. Be creative and write something that will be helpful to “Future You”. Ideas may include goals, aspirations, jokes, names of your best friend, favorite food, favorite animal, favorite thing to do in school, what do you want to do when you grow up, etc…. Adults can write a love letter to their spouse. Put this letter in a self addressed envelope and bring it to the Parks & Rec office. We will mail it to you 1 year in the future!

No school on Friday Oct.14th! Join us at the Streetsboro Pierce Library for a Monkey Lunch Party. Kids this is your chance to finally “Monkey Around.” Each child will get to stuff and decorate their own monkey! After you build your own monkey, you and your monkey will sit down and listen to a story read by one of the great librarian story tellers. Pizza will also be included for your child and yourself. Halloween KidzArt Ages: 4 – 10 Min: 6

Does your child love Halloween? During this KidzArt Halloween program, students will be taught the basics of drawing through fun Halloween themed projects! Through our interactive format they learn how to use these skills to access the power of their imagination. The Halloween classes are full of eye-opening surprises as students interpret scary & fun shapes, colors, and proportion. KidzArt Certified Instructors know how to break down the drawing project into manageable lines and shapes using language that kids understand. It’s fun for everyone! Grab your friends for a night out together with musical entertainment. Tickets will not be sold prior to the dance. Announcements will be made at Defer. Refreshments will be available for purchase by the Streetsboro Parent/Teacher Association. NO admittance after 6:15 pm to the dance. Running Club Instructor: Andrew Bores Grades: 1st – 6th

Does your child like to run? Then he or she needs to join the Running Club! Running is a sport where everyone participates and has fun all the time. Emphasis will be on having fun and cross country running. Children will learn and practice running technique and form, stretching and safety. Practices will include fun relays, running games and obstacle courses. This is a sport that everyone can enjoy regardless of ability. Each participant will receive a running shirt. Cross country races will be held on Saturday mornings. Distance goals are adjusted based on age group and/or ability. No experience necessary. DAY: TIME: Mon & Wed 5:30 - 7:00 pm Saturdays 10:00 am

Fencing Instructor: Tom Nagy 5 weeks Ages: 8 years – Adult Min: 8

Have you ever tried fencing? Well now is your chance! Fencing is coming to Streetsboro! No experience necessary. Fencing is a fun safe program open to boys, girls, men & women. This program introduces students to the fundamentals of modern foil fencing. This includes: footwork, lunging, attach, parryriposte, strategy, tactics, technique, and bouting. Fencing improves eye-hand coordination, agility, strength, and stamina. All equipment is provided. Fencing helps develop social skills, manner, and self esteem. NFL Flag Football Ages: 5-12

NFL Punt, Pass & Kick

Competition Ages: 6 - 15 years old

Cheerleading Camp Instructor: Renee Powell 4 weeks Ages: 6 - 12 years old Min: 6

This camp is designed for girls and boys interested in cheering Stretch-n-Grow style! Cheerleaders will learn chants, a cheer routine, dance, basic arm and leg movements. We will practice and discuss proper conditioning as it relates to cheerleading. This fun and energetic camp will fill your child with spirit and teamwork. Every child will receive pompoms, t-shirt, cheer manual, a picture in an individual frame and lots of fun! Our last class will end with a short fun pep rally. Family and friends are welcome! Basketball Cheerleading Grades 1-4 Min. 6

Girls, have you always wanted to be a cheerleader, do you find the girls on the sidelines at basketball and football games interesting? Do you have the loudest voice among all of your friends? We have just the activity for you. Sign up with us and give it a try. Hurry up, because space is limited. Cheerleaders will receive a t-shirt, pom poms and a cheer guide. They will also learn proper hand, leg, and arm movements to go along with the cheers that are taught. Volleyball Camp 3rd – 6th Grade 4 day camp Grades: 3 - 6

Learn how to bump, set and serve! Be a step ahead of others with your volleyball experience by attending this camp. Tennis shoes and knee pads are a must. This camp is for girls and boys. DATES: DAYS: TIME: August 22 – 25 Mon – Thurs 6:00 – 7:00 pm

Youth Volleyball League Ages: 3rd – 6th grade

The Youth Volleyball League is geared to teach fundamentals, sportsmanship, and basic rules of volleyball. Practices and games will be played during the week. All players are required to have knee pads. All players will receive a uniform t-shirt. Parent volunteer coaches are needed.

Little Spikers Volleyball Instructor: Recreation staff member 5 years old – 2nd grade

Little Spikers is a volleyball program geared towards learning, having fun, and creating an interest in volleyball. This program will use beach balls instead of real volleyballs and the net will be lowered. This program will teach players the basic fundamentals and rules of volleyball. Kuk Sool Won Kuk Sool Won of Streetsboro teaches the traditional values of martial arts but with an upbeat, enthusiastic modern approach. They combine kicking, punching, throwing, falling, joint-locking, pressure points, meditation and weapon’s techniques into a beautiful and dynamic style that emphasizes speed and fluidity. It’s sure to meet your physical and mental goals on an individualized basis. Drum Lessons If you have never played the drums, this beginner instruction is for you. Private half hour lessons are held in the afternoons. Scheduled Trips Canterbury Feast Station Dinner Theatre Erie, PA Sunday, September 25 “It’s the 31st annual “Feast” where knaves and wenches take you back to the year 1492 for this musical comedy where they not only perform but also serve you the meal with NO UTENSILS ALLOWED!!! The show tells the story of a prince who wants to marry, but is having trouble finding a suitable princess. Something is always wrong with those he meets, and he cannot be certain they are true royalty. Comedy ensues when an unseemly woman shows up claiming to be a princess. The prince’s mother decides to test their unexpected guest and… well… we can’t give away the ending.” Arrive to the center at 11:15 am and the bus will return at 8:45 pm. Cost is $72.00. Meadows Casino Meadowlands, Pennsylvania Wednesday, October 19 Package includes roundtrip motor coach transportation, gaming time at Meadows Casino, and casino incentive of $20 in slot play. Arrive to the center at 8:00 am and the bus will return at 7:30 pm. Cost is $28.00. Last day to RSVP is October 10 or until bus is filled. Rivers Casino and Hartwood Acres Festival of Lights Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania Wednesday, November 30 Package includes roundtrip motor coach transportation, gaming time at Rivers Casino, casino incentive of $15 in slot play, $5 in food, admission to Hartwood Acres Festival of Lights. Arrive to the center at 8:30 am and the bus will return at 9:00 pm. Cost is $30. Last day to RSVP is November 23 or until bus is filled.

“Living Christmas Tree” & Mansfield Christmas Lights Westerville, Ohio Sunday, December 11 Come to enjoy all the music, drama, live animals, and special effects, including six afternoon performances! Come see your favorite Christmas carols brought to life, and be inspired by the wonder of the biblical Christmas story and the extraordinary life of Jesus Christ. Hundreds of volunteers work countless hours year round to bring you an experience we hope will help set the tone for your Christmas season and the New Year ahead! Cost is $62 and includes motor coach, “Living Christmas Tree” show, dinner buffet at Hometown Buffet, Mansfield Christmas lights, driver’s gratuity and all applicable taxes. Arrive to the center 10:15 am and return to the center at 9:00 pm. Last day to RSVP is December 2 or until bus is filled.

Bingo and Breakfast at Eat n’ Park will be the second Tuesday of every month with breakfast starting at 9am followed by Bingo at 10 am. Cost: $4.99 for the all-you can eat breakfast buffet; NO cost for Bingo.

Pick-a-Prize Raffle August 22- September 8

What is a Pick-a-Prize Raffle? All of the raffle items are donated and displayed on tables with a corresponding ticket box or bag next to each item. Tickets are sold and the purchaser deposits their tickets, one, two or however many they want in the corresponding box/bag for a chance to win the prize. At the end of the event, a winning ticket is drawn from each container. Tickets will be for sale and items on display starting Monday, August 22 from 8 am to 7:00 pm in the craft room (same hallway as Senior Center) of City Hall and continue through September 7. Tickets will be sold 1 for $1 or 10 for $5. Winners will be pulled September 8 at conclusion of the Annual Foundation Banquet. You DO NOT have to be present to win.

Cancellations: Streetsboro Parks & Recreation Department reserves the right to cancel any class or program which does not meet the minimum required participants. In the event your class is cancelled, we will notify you by phone. You may transfer to an-other class or program, receive a credit for a later class or program or receive a re-fund.

Refund Policy: Refunds or credits will be given for classes cancelled by the Parks & Recreation Department. AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE I, in consideration of the permission hereby granted for my child to participate in this program, sponsored by the Streetsboro Parks and Recreation Department, agree to assume the risk of any and all personal injuries to my child, or property damage, and to hold harmless the City of Streetsboro or its agents, employees and volunteers from any and all injuries or property damage arising from this event, and hereby release any and all claims of whatever nature arising therefore. SIGNED PARENT OR GUARDIAN understands that he/she grants permission for emergency first aid or other life sustaining medical procedures by a qualified and licensed individual on the child and assumes financial responsibility for any and all injuries, to include ambulance and hospital COSTs. SIGNED PARENT OR GUARDIAN agrees to obey all Regulations set forth by the City of Streetsboro or its agents, and voluntarily agrees to participate and obey the assigned coach, supervisor or agents of the City of Streetsboro.
