 Headteacher s Message: May I wish a Happy Easter to families celebrating in the Spring break, also a happy New Year to families celebrating the Persian New Year in March. Best wishes also to our families celebrating Vaisakhi and the birth of Guru Nanak in April and to families celebrating Rama Navami. Thank you to parents who are supporting their children by at tending parent’s evenings. The se meetings are important opportunities for us to work together to ensur e your children make progress with their learning. If parents have suggestions as to how we can improve reports and parents consultation evenings, I would be delighted to speak with you or receive your emails via [email protected] The school has been busy with activities and visits both locally and abroad. We hosted an event last week where children from Belgium, France, Spain, Iceland and Portugal visited Stretford High with their teachers. The visitors joined lessons and met a number of our students, making many new friendships. We hope to travel to Portugal in January 2014 for a similar visit. The annual Year 7 international visit to Rome took place last week. Year 7students (  pictured ) visited the Coliseum and were also present in St Peter's square in the Vatican City on Sunday March 17th to hear the new Pope's first speech. Seven student teams also recently competed in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, where they had to research a charity and pitch for prize money of £3000. Leading local figures were on the judging panel and the winning group gave the best pitch to win £3000 for the worthy charity 'Destination Florida', a charity for terminally ill children.  Catering Notice Due to the recent press statements and the food standard agency reports about horse meat in ready meals, we would like to reassure all parents that we as a school do not purchase any ready meals. All our meals are made in-house from scratch. All our beef produce is bought fresh from our local butcher, HG Beard. If parents have any queries, please contact Mrs S Horan, Catering Development Manager on 0161 975 1558, she is happy to discuss our food sources and food preparation with all parents.   School closes for the Spring holiday on Thursday 28th March at 12.20pm. Student lunches are available on the day through the in school pre-order service.   School is closed to students on Mon 15th April for Staff training. School re-opens on Tues 16th April, usual time for all students. School is closed for Bank Holiday on Monday 6th May, re- opens Tues 7th May usual time for all -students. School closes for summer half term on Friday 24th May. School re-opens for Half term 6 on Monday 3rd June.  Three staff members have recently moved on from school.  Ms V Baxter Assistant Headteacher and Mrs T Rees-Cook both left Stretford High School in early spring for new challenges. Mrs C Lamb sadly leaves the school in March after a long period of illness. We wish them all well for the future. Congratulations to Mrs R Bhogal-Welsh who was appointed as Assistant Head teacher in March. Miss P Howarth was appointed as Interim Director of English in March. Also Ms S Simons was appointed as the school’s new HR Director. She will be joined by Mrs V Arrowsmith, our new Finance Director, in April. We wish them well in their new p osts. Headteacher’s Message:
