You’ll make no blocks to create this easy and colorful quilt that includes fabrics in the Artisan by Kaffe Fassett. It’s as simple as cutting and sewing strips together in random order and then cutting the long strip into shorter ones and sewing them all together to make the quilt top. You’ll get lots of practice cutting strips and sewing accurate seam widths.

Cutting WOF = Width of Fabric

Fabric A, cut:(8) 21⁄2” x WOF (6.35x WOF) strips and set to one side for the binding(1) 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strip

Fabric B, cut:(4) 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strips

Fabric C and D, cut from EACH:(3) 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strips

Fabrics E and F, cut from EACH:(2) 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strips

Fabrics G-D3, cut from EACH:(1) 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strips

Sewing InstructionsNote: Use a 1⁄4’’-wide (.64cm) seam allowance throughout. Sew all pieces with right sides together and raw edges even. Use thread that matches or blends with the fabric colors.

1. Sew all of the 21⁄2” x 405⁄8” (6.35cm x 103.19cm) strips of Fabric A through D3 together in random order, to make one long strip. Press the seams open as you go.

2. Cutting from the beginning end of the long strip, cut (1) 651⁄2” (166.37cm) strip for the first row of the quilt. Cut a second 651⁄2” (166.37cm) piece for the next row and sew it to the bottom edge of the first one. The last fabric in the first row should be the first one in Row 2. Cut and sew a third strip to the bottom Row 2 (Fig. 1) shown below.

3. In the same fashion, always cutting from the previously cut end, continue to cut and then sew 651⁄2”-long (166.37cm) strips to the pieced panel until you have a quilt top composed of 40 rows.

Quilt Finishing4. Prepare a 73” x 88” (185.42 x 223.52cm) backing

panel. Press the backing and quilt top to remove all wrinkles. Trim any stray threads.

5. Layer the quilt top with the batting and baste the layers together. Quilt as desired.

6. Trim the batting and backing even with the quilt top. Square up the quilt as needed so both long edges are the same length and both short edges are the same length.

7. Sew the 21⁄2” x WOF (6.35x WOF) Fabric A binding strips together with diagonal seams to make one continuous piece of binding. Fold in half lengthwise with wrong sides together and press.

8. Sew the binding to the quilt top with raw edges even, mitering the corners as you reach them. Turn the binding to the back of the quilt and hand-stitch in place.
