.
“What do you want to be when you grow up?” That’s a common question all children seem to hear. Children today still dream of being a “grown up” and doing
incredible things. Grade 1D were given the opportunity to think about all of the exciting careers they wanted to have, as an adult.
They had a magical day of make-believe exploring different occupa-tions with play-centred ideas. At CityKidz we encourage creative play and believe that role-play for children has very positive development benefits that would prepare children to understand and manage themselves. Pretend play can help develop self-esteem, creativity, confidence,
independence and a sense of personal empowerment. Thanks Mrs Abed for making their educational experience so much fun!
Learning is fun!

FRIDAY
Mrs Strydom’s class played Hangman. Hangman
is an old word game children played together to
test their vocabulary skills. Each child has a turn to
select a spelling word and his/her classmates have
to guess the letters in the words before he/she is
hanged. Wrong guesses add elements to the gal-
lows. Each round ends either when the word is
safely guessed or the participant is sent to the
gallows. Children can become spelling experts in
no time playing cool games such as Hangman,
and best of all, children have fun while learning!

World Humanitarian Day
World Humanitarian Day is held every year on 19th August to pay tribute to aid
workers who risk their lives in humanitarian service , and to rally support for people
affected by crises around the world. Around the world, conflict is exacting a mas-
sive toll on people’s lives. Trapped in wars that are not of their making, millions of
civilians are forced to hide or run for their lives. Children are taken out of school,
families are displaced from their homes, and communities are torn apart, while the
world is not doing enough to stop their suffering. At the same time, health and aid
workers – who risk their lives to care for people affected by violence – are increas-
ingly being targeted. For WHD 2017, humanitarian partners are coming together to
reaffirm that civilians caught in conflict are #NotATarget. http://www.un.org/en/events/

Krishna
Janmashtami Krishna Janmashtami, also known simply as Janmashtami, is
an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna,
Sri Krishna is considered as the one of the most powerful
human incarnations of the Lord Vishnu. He was born around
5,200 years ago in a prison in the custody of Kansa.
Vasudev, His father immediately thought of his friend Nand
and decided to hand over his child to him to save Krishna
from the clutch of Kansa. Krishna grew up in Gokul and fi-
nally killed his uncle, King Kansa. The sole objective of Sri
Krishna's birth was to free the Earth from the evilness of
demons. He played an important role in Mahabharata and
spread the theory of good karma.
The actual celebration of Janmashtami takes place during
the midnight as Sri Krishna is believed to be born. On this
day temples and homes are wonderfully decorated and
illuminated. Night long prayers are offered and religious
mantras are sung in the temples.
Mrs Fatima Abed celebrated her birthday on the
8th . Smile, have fun
Just enjoy every moment
Of love, joy and merriment
Happy Birthday, children!!
