Reliable Leader in the Newsprint Industry

Dedication to continued innovation

The newsprint industry has undergone significant changes since Jeonju Paper was first founded in 1965. Jeonju Paper has risen to

become one of the most competitive players thanks to its dedication to quality and customer satisfaction as well as its continued

investments and efforts to maintain and upgrade its facilities. Jeonju Paper developed and refined various products to better fit the

customers’ needs and have been fully committed to ensuring reliable deliveries to customers. Currently, Jeonju Paper supplies to

approximately 40 domestic and 50 overseas newspapers, which supports its status as one of the major players in Asia.

In order to gain and maintain customers’ trust and loyalty, Jeonju Paper provides quality products at competitive prices supported by

outstanding service. Continuous investments in R&D and equipment improvement provide foundations for Jeonju Paper’s innovative

new products.

Recognizing the world’s waning fossil fuel supply and the need for greater environmental awareness, Jeonju Paper has made

significant investments to build a biomass fueled energy system over the past few years. This will allow Jeonju Paper to not only

decrease its carbon footprint but also reduce the amount of various pollutants released into the airstream.

Jeonju Paper, with its new name change in 2008, promises to be the leader in newsprint manufacturing in Asia, moving beyond

Korean domestic market.

JEONJU MILL It’s not an overstatement to say that the 40-year history of Jeonju Mill represents the history of Korean paper industry.

It is the third largest in the world in terms of newsprint production capacity, capable of producing 850,000 tonnes of paper per year. It

can recycle 2,500 tonnes of waste paper streams per day, operates the largest DIP production capacity in the world, and is the only

mill in Korea that is able to produce thermo-mechanical pulp. In the Jeonju area, the Jeonju Mill is also recognized as a model plant

after being designated as a Environmentally Friendly Company by the Ministry of Environment of Korea in 1995.

CHEONGWON MILL Located in Cheongwon, Chungcheongbuk-do, Cheongwon Mill started its operation in 1996 and has a

newsprint production capacity of 180,000 tonnes per year. Despite being a single-line facility, its high production efficiency was

recognized as being world-class by Metso, a global paper machine manufacturer. Furthermore, because the mill is surrounded by

farmland, the 140 Cheongwon employees take extra measures to run an eco-conscious operation. As a result of such continued

efforts, the Cheongwon Mill has been designated as an Environmentally Friendly Company by the Ministry of Environment of Korea

since 2002.

Jeonju Paper uses various types of pulp in order to obtain the precise production specification as desired by its customers. Jeonju Paper

produces various grades of thermo mechanical pulp (TMP) and de-inked pulp (DIP), by using different raw materials as well as

processing through different manufacturing and bleaching processes. By balancing the usage of the two types of in-house produced

pulp as well as imported Kraft pulp, Jeonju Paper is able to optimize the opacity, strength, grammage, thickness, color, and printability

to better fulfill clients’ various needs.

Environment before us

Jeonju Paper practices eco-friendly operations, starting from production process to environment protection activities.

As the leader in the field of eco-friendly operation, Jeonju Paper uses the Health, Environment, Safety (HES) Program to evaluate and

improve each mill’s operation. In addition, Jeonju Paper follows ISO 14000 standard to minimize the impact to the environment.

Through all these efforts, Jeonju Paper was designated as an Environmentally-Friendly Company by the Ministry of Environment.

Jeonju Paper is promoting the usage of new and renewable sources of energy and is doing so by leading by example. Since 2006

Jeonju Paper has invested in constructing a biomass power plant that produces energy by incinerating waste wood, trash, food, and

defective products. Biomass is eco-friendly energy source replacing fossil fuel that reduces carbon emissions and wastes by replacing

fossil fuel.

Furthermore, Jeonju Paper strives to manufacture high quality recycled paper through constant research and development. We also

are running paper recycling campaign wherein we provide recycled notebooks in return for paper wastes that local residents bring in.

Our goal is to become at the forefront of environmentalism, by participating in neighborhood clean-ups with local residents as well as

planting wild plants on mill yards.

Located inside Jeonju Mill, Jeonju Hanji Museum is gaining popularity as the core of local attraction. Founded

in October 1997, it is the first museum dedicated to paper in Korea. The museum holds over 300 artifacts

including paper arts, ancient text and books, various types of paper, and paper manufacturing equipments.

Hanji Museum became the center of education for students, which enables them to experience the paper
