Habit

The music video begins with a blurred screen, and progresses onto the lead protagonist moving through as subway into a place where he is able to sing, and play the guitar. 0 – 15

A split screen is then used to split the entrance and have the protagonist who is playing the guitar to enter the middle of the screen. He continue to play the guitar and starts to sing the opening lyrics of the song. 22-34

A flashback to the past is shown, and uses a contrast between black and white, which shows the present, and colour which shows the past. He is shown to be walking as a business man in colour and then transforms into a homeless alcoholic as the scene progress’. 35-42

The shot then fades into the scene in the subway, where various uses of camera angles have been incorporated. 43-1:05

The protagonist is then shown to be celebrating something with people who look professionally dressed, it could be concluded that it is a promotion, this celebration involves drinking. Alcoholism can be seen to cause the downfall of the business man, and is his ‘habit’, which is indicated by the next scene, where the protagonist is drinking alcohol on a bench and is surrounded by dead leaves and filth. 1:05 – 1:26

The scene then fades into the subway scene in which the protagonist is playing his guitar and singing the song. 1:26 – 1:36

The protagonist is then shown to be fired from his job, which signals the eventual demise of his character, as in the next shot, he is shown to be drinking heavily as his friends slowly fade from the table around him. 1:36 – 1:41

The audience then realise that the protagonist is actually singing, and playing the guitar in order to make a living, this is signified by the hand dropping money into his hat and 1:47-48. From this point to the end of the song there is a varied use of different camera angles and shots to show the artist singing the song and playing the guitar. A split screen is used from 2:25 – 2:39, in which he packs up his equipment in the middle and plays continues playing the song on the top and bottom of the screen. These eventually merge to show him resting his head on the wall. 1:41 – 2:39
