4Tropical and sub-tropical countries have higher cooling requirements.
Geography, Geography, Geography…..
5
Countries like India have lower than 6% air conditioning penetration and are on a path to increase that to more than 50% in next 30 years.
Cooling Our Homes & Offices, by Heating Our Planet

ACs cool air in the building & do not cool the biggest source of indoor heat - building structure.
Cool the structure, it will cool the rest.
Structure Cooling
Simulation results of a different operative temperatures for 24 hours in different areas of two-storey residence on a peak day.
We can observe that the operative temperatures are more or less constant even in the night due to the heat accumulated in the building.

Structure Cooling
• Embed pipes in Slab/Floor/False Ceiling
• Water circulated at 15-25 °C temp.
• Two stage Cooling towers are used9

• Can be implemented in a hybrid manner with conventional HVAC technologies like Chiller-AHU, VRV, Split ACs etc.
• Reduces the Cooling load by 20-60% depending on the location, season & type of building.
• Examples – Commercial Buildings, IT Parks etc.
Buildings Requiring maintenance of 24 deg C Indoor Temperature
Implementation Options
Buildings Requiring maintenance of 26-30 deg C Indoor Temperature
Buildings Requiring maintenance of 24 deg C Indoor Temperature
• Buildings where Air Conditioning is not an option, but comfort needs to be provided.
• No vapour compression based cooling
• Focus on providing comfort with fans & natural ventilation.
• Examples – Govt Buildings like Courts, Public Health Centers, Schools etc.
• Same as Option 1, except better controls to switch between Two Stage Cooling and Chiller operation depending on the Wet Bulb Temperature and Building Load.
• Examples – Commercial Buildings, IT Parks etc.
