Structure Question 1 (6 mark) Making a supported inference The source states/show…. This suggest…… Source A states that the patient suffered from pain during operation, this shows that anaesthetics were not available at this period. From my own knowledge I know that the first effective and save anaesthetics wasn’t made until 1847 by James Simpson which was chloroform. And so many doctors in this period had to carry out the operation as fast as possible and many people based a good doctor on how fast they were able to carry out an operation so ‘good’ doctors reputation died down as chloroform was getting used. Source A also states that transfusion did not take place when blood was lost so this suggests many patients died from blood lost during operations. From my own knowledge I know that doctors had to be quick due to the huge of amount of death from blood lost because the faster it was done the less blood released and because of huge amount of death from blood lost many people were too scared to get surgery performed on them and so this led to people dying from lack of treatment. Source A also states that the doctor cut off his assistant fingers this suggest that doctors were messy and unorganised. From my own knowledge I know that at this time period doctors weren’t trained well and no examination was needed before leaving university. Question 2 (8 mark) Explanation of purpose Analysis of representation This source gives the impression…..
