Dear Parishioners: This weekend we bid farewell to Deacon Trey Ange who returns to Notre Dame Seminary next week to complete his final year of preparation for his ordination to the Sacred Order of Presbyter. His ordination is scheduled for Saturday, June 3rd, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception here in Lake Charles. Please join us after the Masses today for juice and cookies at the main entrance of the church to say good-bye to Deacon Trey. It has been a pleasure having Deacon Ange with us during his internship. I am grateful to our parish for being the wonderful example of a vibrant, faith-filled family that witnessed well to Deacon Ange what it means to be a particular example of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. I am particularly grateful to the members of the Lay Support Committee, chaired by Sr. Claire Pellerin, S.E., for their commitment to the mentoring process which was such a gift to Deacon Ange during his time with us. The other members are: Mr. Robby Alleman, Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Shila Cowart, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff and Carolyn Dupont, Ms. Cherryle Fruge, SFO, Ms. Penny Gallow, Deacon Leo Hebert, Ms. Mary Hebert, Mr. and Mrs. Chris and Susan Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Robin and Linda Mathis, and Ms. Selma Thompson. May God bless your generous service to our next priest! Tomorrow night is the final lesson in our Symbolon series. The topic is “The Last Things – Judgment, Heaven, Hell, and Purgatory.” We begin with a meal at 6 p.m. provided by Mr. Bubba Gilley and will end by 7:45. If you have not registered, but would like to attend this session, please call the office to put your name on the list. And thank you, Mr. Bubba, for the delicious meals you have provided each week for us. Next weekend, October 15th and 16th, we welcome Fr. Bert Borel, who will be preaching at all the Masses as he introduces himself to our parish family. We are grateful that Fr. Borel will be with us in full-time ministry. Since I will be out of town from October 13th to 17th, we will formally welcome Fr. Borel the following weekend, Sunday, October 23rd, during the Knights of Columbus Pancake Breakfast in the Activity Center. Please put this event on your calendar and bring your family after Mass that day to enjoy breakfast with us, to meet our generous and committed Knights of Columbus, and to welcome Fr. Borel. On Sunday, November 6th, we celebrate the Solemnity of St. Theodore, our parish patron. We are planning for our 2nd annual parish feast day celebration following the 10:30 a.m. Mass that day. Our chairs, Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy and Tonya Stillwell, and our committee members are working hard to provide an amazing meal, music, a ministry fair, and much fun for the children. Please plan to join us for our parish feast day. Thank you to Jeremy and Tonya for the wonderful job they are doing as our chairs this year. The Diocese of Lake Charles is participating in a Come and See weekend for young men discerning a possible call to priestly ministry. The weekend will be held at St. Joseph Abbey and Seminary College in Covington the weekend of November 4th-6th. This discernment experience is open to men ages 16 and older. There is no cost to the retreatant, and transportation will be provided by the Diocese. During the weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to share with other men who are discerning a priestly vocation, experience the liturgy of the Benedictine monks at the abbey, and learn about priesthood. For more information or to register for the event, go to the new Diocese of Lake Charles vocations web site at www.LCVocations.com. Or you can contact Fr. Jeffrey Starkovich, Vocation Director, at 337-436-7223, or via e-mail at [email protected]. Remember that if God is calling you to the priesthood or to the religious life, He will reveal it to you in the quiet of your heart, and often at a weekend experience such as this. And if He is calling you, and you say yes, you will find great joy. Let us all pray for vocations to the priesthood, the permanent diaconate, and the consecrated life. And may God continue to bless our St. Theodore family and Holy Family Catholic School.
Fr. Huckaby

Dear Parishioners, I have been honored to serve at St. Theodore Catholic Church over the past several months. It has been such a tremendous blessing in so many ways. So many of you have opened your hearts and your homes to me, and have been very welcoming to me. Part of me really does not want to leave, but it is time to say goodbye for now. I must return to seminary to complete my last year of studies, so that I can learn more about: how to celebrate Mass, how to hear confessions, how to anoint the sick, and many other priestly ministries. I look forward to learning
all of these things so that, God willing, I may serve the Diocese of Lake Charles in the future as a priest. Even with all that I have already learned in the seminary, you have taught me in ways that I never imagined. As faithful parishioners, you have taught me what it is like to be in a large parish, to minister at a school, be involved with countless ministries, and serve as a spiritual father. These are only a few of the ways I have learned how to be a priest of Jesus Christ – and I learned these things here – at St. Theodore. I have thanked Bishop Provost for the opportunity to be here in “The Bluff”, because it is truly a strong community of faith. Your faith, your hospitality, your generosity and your active involvement in the parish are uplifting. I certainly hope that my parish assignments in the future will be as joy-filled and faith-filled as the thriving St. Theodore. For the many of you who I did not have the pleasure to meet or get to know, I thank you for your witness and involvement in the parish, and I encourage you to prayerfully become involved in the ways God is calling you – to live and to love as a parish family. I want to thank all of you who welcomed me, lovingly accepted me and taught me many things in the parish. I especially want to thank the office staff, as well as the Lay Support Committee, who met with me once or twice a month to review how I was doing, how I could improve and guide me in my steps toward priesthood. Sister Claire Pellerin, S.E. who was the chair of the Lay Support Committee, Selma Thompson, Robin and Linda Mathis, Chris and Susan Johnson, Deacon Leo Hebert, Mary Hebert and Penny Gallow, Cherryle Fruge, Jeff and Carolyn Dupont, Mark and Shila Cowart, and Robby Alleman. You all were a source of steady support, help, and growth for me. Thank you. I also want to thank Father Whitney Miller, who has always been a wonderful priest who I have always looked up to and who continues to inspire me. And of course, thank you to Father John Huckaby, who is an inspiration and another Christ to me and to all of us.Most of all, I want to thank all of you who prayed for me during these months and for your continued prayers for me, for priests, and for future priests. Know of my prayers for you and your families.
Peace in Christ, Deacon Trey Ange
