Purpose
This Policy outlines the Student Award and Scholarship program. The policy
seeks to explore the Award and Scholarship Scheme at Green Valley Islamic
College.

Year 12 Graduation
Principal’s Award for Excellence in School Participation
The Principal’s Award for Excellence in School participation provides further recognition for the
highest achieving student.
This prestigious award recognises a Year 12 student who promotes the school culture/
ethos. Criteria: Winner of this award is selected from the categories:
Positive role model, attitude of excellence, and service throughout their time at
GVIC.
Practices and encourages school ethos.
Independent learner, sustained competence, conscience, and compassion.
Exemplary leadership qualities.
Involvement in extracurricular activities.
The student is nominated by the subject teacher. Final selection is by the Executives and the
Principal.
Recipient gets a certificate and a trophy.

Reuben Scarf Award for Commitment
It is offered to every school in New South Wales and holds a special significance to Mr Scarf, as he
believed that “young people, who are persistent and dedicated, are the ones who ultimately reach
their goals. A little recognition and help can be the magic that builds the confidence necessary to
start them on their way upwards.
Reuben F Scarf Memorial Foundation Award is awarded to a Year 10 and a Year 12 student to
recognise and honour consistent effort and desire to improve.

Each faculty will choose the top two students. Final selection will be made by the Executives and
the Principal.
Recipient gets a Reuben Scarf Certificate and voucher.
Presentation: Graduation Ceremony.
End of the Year School Book Prize – Chris Hayes (MP), Federal Member for Fowler
Book Prize is awarded to a Year 9 student for actively taking part in the Parliamentary Convention
on their visit to Canberra.
Criteria: Student is nominated by the Staff.
PRC Team Gold/Platinum Certificates and Awards
The Premiers Reading Challenge certificates and awards are handed to the Outstanding Reader in
the Annual Awards Ceremony.
Criteria: The PRC Team decides.
Southwest Connect Certificate of Achievement for Outstanding Work Ethic
This certificate with a cash voucher is given to a Year 10 student.
Criteria: Student is nominated by all the Staff.

Long Tan Youth Leadership Team Awards – Australian Defence Force
i. Long Tan Youth Leadership Team Award plus $250 cheque is awarded to a Year 10
student for demonstrating outstanding leadership and teamwork.
ii. Long Tan Youth Leadership Team Award plus $550 cheque is awarded to a Year 12
student for demonstrating outstanding leadership and teamwork.
UWS Most Outstanding Year 11 Student
Certificate plus Cash awarded to the student with 90+ ATAR and who has demonstrated excellent
leadership qualities.
Criteria: Student is nominated by the Staff.
Liverpool Council Award
Cheque awarded to student demonstrating community spirit and promoting citizenship at school.
Criteria: Student is nominated by the Staff.
Award for Most Improved Performance
• The student who has demonstrated greatest academic improvement by comparing
aggregate of the Half Yearly Report mark average to the Yearly Report mark average.
Presentation: Graduation ceremony
Dux Award
Dux of School is awarded to the student who attains the highest ATAR in the HSC.
Winner receives a certificate and trophy.
Presented: First Assembly in the following year – Dux student and parent invited.

Sportsman and sportswoman of the Year from each grade: Year 7 – 11
Criterion
• Sports teachers choose two students from their sports class. Final decision by Sports
Coordinator.
The students receive trophies and certificates
Attendance Award
Criterion:
• 100% attendance for all grades.
Roll call teacher submits name/s to the annual prize giving committee.
Students receive certificates.
Student of the Year for each grade:
Criteria:
• Positive role model
• Independent learner
• Practices and encourages school ethos
• Involvement in extracurricular activities
Teacher nominates a student that most closely satisfies the above-mentioned criteria.
The students receive certificates.
Special Award: (optional)
Students recognised for their hard work and outstanding effort in various fields.
The students receive certificates/trophies from subject teachers in the Special School Assemblies.
Scholarship for Year 12:
The Principal decides the fees exemption for students in Year 11.

3.0 Scholarship
Green Valley Islamic College is committed to helping students and parents not only by providing
quality teaching and learning opportunities but also by providing financial assistance in the form of
Tuition-Free Scholarships to excelling students. Students performing at high standards and
achieving distinguished results in internal and external exams are given either full or partial
scholarships.
Recipients
Six students from each of the following grades; Year 4, Year 6, Year 7, Year 8, Year 9, Year 10 and
Year 11 will receive scholarships that will cover their school fees. (Refer to the attached GVIC
Scholarship Scheme that outlines the criteria that students need to fulfil in order to qualify for the
respective scholarships).
All students in Year 12 who achieve a band 6 mark in any subject will receive a monetary gift for
each band 6 mark scored. The amount will be decided by the School Board.
External students (Non-GVIC) are also entitled to receive scholarship if they join Green Valley Islamic
College as per the scholarship scheme.
Examination
Screening exam refers to the GAT external exam (conducted by University of New South Wales) that
is done in Year 6. NAPLAN exam is done in Year 3, Year 5, Year 7 and Year 9. HSC is Higher School
Certificate Examination done in Year 12 and a band 6 mark is 90% and above in a course of study.
Half-Yearly and Yearly Examination are internal school examinations.
