GeneralInformationTheLutheranHighSchoolAssociationofSt.CharlesCountyisdedicatedtothetaskofhelpingyoungpeoplegrowintheChristianfaithandtoliveinthatfaithasGodhasintended.Tothatend,inpartnershipwithcongregationsandChristianhomes,LutheranHighinvolvesitsstudentsin: •asystematicstudyofGod'sWord •astudyoftheteachingsoftheLutheranConfessions •worshipactivitiesandChristianserviceprojects •abroadrangeofacademicstudies •aprogramofco-curricularactivitiesinaChrist-centeredenvironment.

Asresponsibleministerstotheyouthwhohavebeenplacedintheircare,themembersoftheAssociation,togetherwiththeBoardofDirectors,administration,teachersandotherstaffmembers,worktoprovidestudentswithqualitylearningexperiencesinalloftheprogramsoffered.Eachstudentistohavetheopportunitytodevelopspiritually,intellectually,physically,socially,andvocationally.

Thepurposeofthishandbookistoprovidefamilieswithclearexpectations.TheseincludeschoolpoliciesandproceduresregardingstudentlifeatLutheranHigh.InformationregardingacademicofferingsandrequirementsmaybefoundintheRegistrationHandbook.InresponsetoCOVID-19,anAddendumwhichdescribesspecialproceduresandpracticesspeci[icto2020-2021isattached.An*indicatesthereisachangetotheregularpolicy/practiceandcanbefoundintheAddendum.

ServicesforStudentsBuildingandOf[iceHours*DuringtheschoolyearthebuildingandofViceopenfrom7:15A.M.to3:15P.M.Westronglysuggestthatallstudentsandparentsmakearrangementsforarrivalanddeparturefromschoolwithinthattime.SummerofVicehoursareMonday-Thursdayfrom8:30A.M.to2:30P.M.andclosedonFridays.StudentServicesStudentServicesstaffincludescounselors,registrar,andsecretary.ThisdepartmentalsoworkscloselywiththestudentsandteachersintheResourceProgramandtheLearningCenter,bothstaffedbyLutheranAssociationofSpecialEducation.

ConcerningChildAbuseMissourichildabusereportinglawsrequirethatallteachersand/orclassiViedemployeesreportallKNOWNorSUSPECTEDinstancesofchildabusetotheMissouriChildAbuseHotLine.Failuretodosoispunishablebyajailsentence,aVine,and/orrevocationofateacher'scertiVicate.Therefore,intheinterestofstudentsafetyandincompliancewithstatelaw,parentsmustrealizethatallsuchincidentswillbereportedasdictatedbylaw.LutheranHighSchoolcaresforeachstudentandfamilythatmakesupourschoolcommunity.

WorkPermits WorkpermitsareissuedinStudentServices.ParentsandstudentsareadvisedthatLutheranHighcannotissueaworkpermituntilthestudentsecuresajobandthespeciVicdutiescanbedescribedbythepotentialemployer.QuestionsregardingtheworkpermitprocessshouldbedirectedtoStudentServices

Library-MediaCenter(LMC)*TheLMCisavailableforindividualandgroupstudyorresearch.Itisopenfrom7:45AMto3:45PM.TheLMChasrulesandproceduresforefVicientoperationwhichstudentsareexpectedtorespect.Acopymachine/printerisavailableforstudentusewithacopyfeeof5centspercopy.StudentsarechargedVinesforlost,damagedoroverduemediacentermaterials.

Co-CurricularActivitiesLutheranHighSchoolisamemberoftheArchdiocesanAthleticAssociation(AAA)andtheMissouriHighSchoolActivitiesAssociationandparticipatesintheMSHSAA-sponsoredactivitiesofcross-country,football,soccer,softball,boysandgirlsvolleyball,cheer,dance,boysandgirlsswimming,basketball,boysandgirlswrestling,baseball,track,golf,boysandgirlstennis,instrumentalandvocalmusic,andscholarbowl.Otherco-curricularactivitiesinclude:StudentCouncil,NationalHonorSociety,TeensforLife,KingdomWorkers,Thespians,PepBand,KeyClub,FBLA,BookClub,SisterCities,FCA,ArtClub,CreativeWritingClub,andRobotics.

Participationintheseactivitiesisencouragedandisopentoallstudentswhoareenrolledasfull-timestudents.TheschoolwillsanctionclubswhichhaveafacultyadvisorandastatementofpurposeandgoalswhichconformtothepurposeandgoalsofLutheranHighSchool.Membershipinschoolsponsoredclubsisrecordedonthestudent'spermanentrecordandmaybeapositivefactorinfutureevaluationsofthestudent'sacademicprogrambyoutsideagencies.Thedecisionoftheschooltosponsornewactivitiesisbasedonstudentinterest,feasibility,andcompatibilitywithexistingprogramsandgoalsofLHS.TheDirectorofActivitiesshouldbeconsultedwhenindividualsseektobeginanewprogram. AcademicRecovery(AR)Program ThosestudentswhohaverepeatedweekswithanyF’swillbeplacedintheAcademicRecoveryProgram.StudentsintheAcademicRecoveryProgramwillbeinformedoftheirstatusbytheDirectorofStudentServices.Inaddition,notiVicationwillbesenttotheparentsofstudents.StudentsinARwillbeassignedtoanacademicdetentionforthepurposeofremediatingtheirgrades.Failuretoattendtheassigneddetention(s),willresultinadisciplinarydetention.

A+ProgramLHSparticipatesintheMissouriA+Program.ThisprogramisdesignedtoassiststudentswithtuitiontoattendaMissouricommunitycollegeor2yearprogram.Inaddition,anumberofMissouri4yearcolleges/universitiesofferscholarshipsforstudentswhoareA+certiVied.ThreemaincriteriamustbemetinordertoreceiveA+certiVication:graduatewitha2.5cumulativeGPA,95%attendanceduring4yearsofhighschool,andperformatleast50hoursoftutoringduringhighschool.AdditionalinformationabouttheMissouriA+Programcanbefoundathttp://dhe.mo.gov/ppc/grants/aplusscholarship.phporbycontactingtheLHSA+Coordinator.

SpiritualLife*Chapel,MorningDevotions,andsmallgroupdevotionalattendanceisrequiredofallstudents.TheSpiritualLifeCoordinatorfacilitateschapelsanddevotionaltimewhichmaybeledbyhimself,otherLHSstaff,students,guestpastors,youthdirectorsandothersattheinvitationoftheschool.Smallgroupsmeettwiceaweekfordevotionaltimeandprayer.

LostandFoundLostandfounditemsmaybeclaimedintheschoolofVice.ThelossofaniPadshouldbereportedimmediatelytotheofVice.Athleticitemsmaybeclaimedfromthecoachortheathleticdepartment.Itemsnotclaimedwillbedonatedtocharityordisposedofonaregularbasis.Allstudentsaretolockallvaluablesinlockerswhenunattended.Shouldapersonalitemofvaluegomissing,pleasereportittotheschoolofViceimmediately.

FieldTrips*PermissionformsmustbeViledwiththeteacheroradvisorbeforeastudentispermittedtoparticipateonaVieldtrip.Normally,studentswillbegivenformsforparentsignatureseveraldayspriortotheplannedactivity.Iftheformismisplaced,parentsmayprovideawrittennotewhichindicatestheirconsent,thedate,location,andapprovedmodeoftravel(whereapplicable)alongwiththeparent'ssignature.

SchoolClosings-"SnowDays"Intheeventthatinclementweathermakesitimpossibletoconductclassesorwhenthesnowscheduleisused(latestart),everyattemptwillbemadetonotifystudentsandparentsbyavoiceandtextmessagethroughanautomatedphonesystem.Inaddition,anannouncementonlocaltelevisionstationsandsocialmedia(facebookandtwitter)willannounceclosinginformationbeforethebeginningoftheschoolday.

Theremaybetimeswhentheweatherwilltakeaturnfortheworseduringtheschoolday.Inmostinstances,classeswillNOTbecanceledoncetheschooldayhasstarted.Studentsarenotallowedtocallouttorequestpermissiontoleaveschoolearly.IfLutheranHighisclosedforinclementweather,thenallschoolactivitiesinvolvingmembersofthestudentbodyscheduledforthatdayandeveningarecanceledaswell.Thiswouldincludeallmusic,athletic,dramaorclubactivities.Anyexceptionwouldneedspecialpermissionfromtheadministration.Anyexceptionswhichwouldreceiveconsiderationwouldbe:

1.DramaperformancessinceticketshavebeensoldinadvanceandreschedulingmaybeverydifVicult 2.Dramarehearsalsduring"techweek"(theweekoftheplay) 3.CompetitionswhicharearepartofDistrict,Regional,StateorNationalscheduleoutofourcontrol 4.PracticesimmediatelypriortoDistrictorStatecompetitions 5.Ascheduledmusicconcert 6.Musicpracticesimmediatelypriortoaconcert 7.Regularlyscheduledathleticcontestswheredrivingconditionsaresafe.

Ineachofthesecasesthecoachoradvisorwouldbeexpectedtorequestthatanexceptionbeconsideredbytheadministration.Eacheventwouldbedecidedonanindividualbasis.Thesafetyofourstudentsandstaffisourtoppriority.

StudentBehaviorPhilosophyItisourbeliefthatGodisanactiveforceinthelivesofthestudentsandfacultyatLHS.WealsobelievethatwhilewearechildrenofGod,ourhumannaturepreventsusfrombeingallthatGoddesires.AtLutheranHighSchool,weworktoleadstudentstoagreaterfaithinChristandtherecognitionthatwhileallaresinners,forgivenessisavailabletoallwhobelieveandrepent.WebelievewearetrulyfreetoliveourlivesguidedbytheHolySpiritinaccordancewithGod'swill.Wefurtherbelievethatundertheforgivenessofsinshereonearth,consequencesofsinmayremaintobelivedwith,yet,theyinnowayreducefullandfreeforgiveness.

ThepoliciesestablishedwithinthishandbookdonotdeVinealltypesandaspectsofstudents'behavior.LutheranHighSchoolhastheauthoritytosetforthpolicies,rules,andregulationstohelpeachstudentconductthemselvesinamannerappropriateandproperforaChristianschool.

StudentResponsibilityThefollowingbehavioralstandardsareexpectedofLutheranHighSchoolstudents:1.TobecomeinformedofandadheretoreasonablerulesandregulationsestablishedbyLutheranHighSchool.2.Torespecttherightsandindividualityofotherstudents,administratorsandteachers.3.Torefrainfromlibel,slanderousremarksandobscenityinverbalandwrittenexpression.4.Todressandgroominamannerthatmeetsreasonablestandardsofhealth,cleanliness,safety,andmodestyasexpressedintheschooldresscode.5.Tobepunctualandpresentintheregularorassignedschoolprogram.6.Torefrainfrommisconductorbehaviorthatabusestherightsofothersormateriallyandsubstantiallydisruptstheeducationalprocess.7.TobegoodstewardsintheuseofGod-giventalentsandabilities.8.Tobegoodstewardsofthephysicalbuildingsandgrounds,includingtextbooksandotherschoolpropertyandequipment.9.Torespectthereasonableexerciseofauthoritybytheschooladministratorsandteachersintheschoolandatschoolsponsoredevents.

WhenastudentconspicuouslyorconsistentlyviolatesaruleofChristianconduct,itisthedutyoftheschoolcommunity(teachers,staff,studentsandparents)toemploycorrectiveactionforstudentimprovement.TheultimategoalofthisministeringistohelpthestudentrecognizesinandbeawareoftheneedforforgivenessandrededicationtoGodandHiswillwiththehelpoftheHolySpirit.Attimes,itmaybeappropriatetomakeuseofprofessionalsoutsidetheLHScommunityortoexcludestudentsfromattendancetoworktowardthesegoals.

ParentResponsibilityParentsareanintegralparttotheChristianeducationofchildren.ParentsareexpectedtoreviewandunderstandtheexpectationsandresponsibilitiesforstudentsasestablishedbyLutheranHighSchool.Theseexpectationsareinplacetohelpmaintainaclimatewherespiritual,academic,andpersonalgrowthisnurturedandencouraged.Parentsareexpectedtoseethatstudentsarriveanddepartfromschoolontime,tomakesuretheyreceiveproperrestandnutrition,andtohelpfacilitatewiththeirstudies.Parentsarealsoexpectedtobemindfulofwaysinwhichstudentsarespendingtheirtime,guardingagainsttimespentinwasteful,potentiallyharmful,ornonproductiveactivities.LutheranHighSchoolgreatlyvaluesthepartnershipithaswiththeparentsandfamiliesofitsstudentbody,andappreciatesthesupportandcaregivenbythesefamilies.

CorrectiveActionCycleTheschooladministrationwillapplycorrectiveactiontostudentsinvolvingallaspectsoftheschoolprogramanditsrelationshipswiththecommunity.Themajorityofcorrectiveactionrelatestotheclassroomandthatiswherethecycleofcorrectiveactionusuallybegins.Teachershavediscretionindealingwithclassroomcorrectiveaction.Thisallowsteacherstheoptionoftakingcareofproblemswithintheclassroom,whichmightotherwisebereferredtotheprincipal.Seriousincidentshowever,allownochoiceincorrectiveactiondecisionsandshouldbereferredtotheofVice.TheseincidentswillmoveimmediatelytolatterstepsoftheCorrectiveActionCycleandinclude,butarenotlimitedto,thefollowing:tobacco,drugandalcohol,weaponsandviolence,premaritalsexualactivity/pregnancy,harassment,writtenorverbalracial/religious/genderslurs,deViancetoauthority,inappropriateuseoftechnology,andtheft/vandalism.Anystudentwhoviolatesthesepoliciesmaybesubjecttosuspensionand/orexpulsionfromschool.

1.Atthepointthatthestudentisunabletoapplyappropriateselfdiscipline,theteacherworkswiththestudentinanattempttoresolvetheissue.Teachersmaychoosetoassignadetentionoroffersomeotherconsequenceaspartofthedisciplinaryprocess.

2.Theteachermaychoosetocontactthestudent'sparentsatthispoint. 3.Iftheproblemcontinues,thestudentisreferredtotheprincipal.Theprincipalwillworkwiththestudentand

teacherandwilladviseparentsofthesituation,andwillconsiderconveningwiththeparentsandothers,whichmayincludethestudent'spastor,toresolvethesituation.Somesituationsmaywarrantsuspensionfromclasses.

4.Ifthematterremainsunresolved,theprincipalwillconsideroptionswhichincludeplacingthestudentondisciplinaryprobation.Suchprobationestablishestheconditionsofcontinuedenrollment.

5.Intheeventthatastudentapparentlyrefusestoaccepttheministryofferedandconsistentlydemonstratesanunwillingnesstocooperatewiththeschool,thestudentmaybedisqualiViedforcontinuedenrollmentatLutheranHighSchool.Ifenrollmentisdiscontinued,theschoolwillseekopportunitiestocontinuethisministryortoprovideitfromothersources.WhenthestudentexpressesadesiretoreturntothecommunityofLHSandtoworkwithinitsrulesofconduct,theschooladministrationwillreviewtheoptionofre-enrollment.

CorrectiveActionforInappropriateBehaviorStudentsfoundtobeinviolationofclassroomorschoolpolicyaresubjecttothefollowingconsequences.

Detention:Adetentionisa45min.periodoftimeassignedtoastudent.Adetentionnoticeissenthomewiththestudenttobesignedbyaparentandreturnedwiththestudenttodetention.Studentsaretositquietlyworkingonschoolworkorreadingduringdetention.Anaccumulationof3ormoredetentionsinatermwillresultinLHSCommunityServiceHours.iPadsarenotpermittedindetention. SaturdayDetention:ASaturdaydetentionisa3hourlongperiodoftimeonaSaturdayassignedtoastudentthathasaccumulated10ormoretardiesinaterm.Adetentionnoticeissenthomewiththestudenttobesignedbyaparentandreturnedwitha$45Vinewiththestudenttodetention.Studentsaretositquietlyworkingonschoolworkorreadingduringdetention.iPadsarenotpermittedindetention. Referral:AstudentissenttotheofVicetospeaktothePrincipalregardingasituationthatoccurredintheclassroomoroncampus.AReferralFormissenthomewiththestudentandparentalcontactismade.Thestudentisrequiredtospeaktoacounselorandtheteacherbeforebeingreadmittedintotheclassroom.Two(2)referralsinatermwillresultinaparentconferenceandaprobationaryagreement. LHSCommunityService:Studentsareassignedarequirednumberofhourstoworkoncampus. InSchoolSuspension-ISS:TherearetimesitisinthebestinterestoftheclassandstudentbodyforastudenttobeseparatedfromtheLHScommunity.Inthiscase,studentswillbeinanassignedlocationatschooltobefortheschoolday.HomeworkwillbeacceptedforfullcreditprovideditisVinishedinthesametimeasstudentsregularschedule.Noextratimewillbeallowedforassignedworkandtestsbecauseofthein-schoolsuspension.StudentswhohaveaninschoolsuspensionmaynotbeoncampusorattendanyschoolsponsoredactivitiesuntilaftertheyreturntoclassthedayfollowinganISS. OutofSchoolSuspension-OSS:Therearetimeswhenastudent’sbehaviorcausesalossintheprivilegetobeapartoftheLHScommunity.Inthiscase,studentsarerequiredtobeoffcampusforschoolandareprohibitedfromattendinganyschoolsponsoredeventuntilthedaytheyarepermittedtoreturntoclass.Homework,tests,andprojectswillbeacceptedwiththehighestgradepossiblebeinga75%.SpeciVicarrangementsforsubmittinghomeworkandprojectsandtakingtestswillbesharedattimeofthesuspension.Noadditionaltimewillbeallowedforhomework,tests,andprojects. SuspensionfromCo-Curricularparticipationorattendance:Studentsmaybesuspendedfromattendinganyschoolsponsoredeventoractivityincludingbutnotlimitedtoathleticevents,practices,dramaproductions,dances,etc.

Theschooladministrationreservestherighttoadministeranyoftheseconsequencesinpartorincombinationaccordingtothepolicyasdescribedinthishandbook.

DisciplinaryProbationDisciplinaryProbationmaybeappliedatthediscretionoftheschoolatanypointinthecorrectiveactioncycle.Itmayalsobeappliedtonewstudentsbasedonpreviousrecords.Termsofprobationwillbedeterminedonacase-by-casebasis.

AppealProcessAstudentand/orparentwhofeelsthatunfairtreatmenthasbeenadministeredinthehandlingofadisciplinarymattermayrequestanappealtotheHeadofSchool.

StudentConduct

LutheranHighexistsasanextensionoftheChristianhomeandchurchtofulVillGod’scommandstoteachHisWord,“diligentlyuntoourchildren”(Deuteronomy6:5-7).AssuchexpectationsforstudentconductarefoundedonbiblicalprinciplesandcreatedthroughthelensandteachingsoftheLutheranChurch-MissouriSynod.Webelievethatstudentconductmustdemonstratecompassion,love,kindness,respect,anddignitytoallpeople.HatefulbehaviorsandattitudesdirectedtowardanyindividualarenotinaccordwithScripturenortheteachingsofLutheranHighSchool. ThefollowingisalistingofstudentexpectationsforstudentconductatLutheranHighSchool.Althoughmanybehaviorsarelisted,thisisnotanall-inclusivelistandtheschooladministrationreservestherighttodisciplinestudentswhenstudentbehaviordoesnotalignwithexpectationsforasafeandhealthylearningenvironmentorthemissionoftheschool.

AcademicHonestyTeachersdeVinefortheirstudentswhatconstitutesplagiarizing,cheating,ormisrepresentationofanykindonawrittenassignment.Teachersmayrequirestudentstosubmitworkelectronicallytoanonlinesitetobeanalyzedforauthenticity.Studentsfoundtobeinvolvedinacademicdishonestywillbeissuedazerofortheassignmentortest.StudentshavetheresponsibilitytounderstandhowindividualteachersdeVineplagiarizing,cheatingandacademichonestywithindifferentassignments.

Arson,Fire,ExplosiveDevicesStartingorattemptingtostartaVireorcausinganexplosionmayresultinsuspensionorexpulsion.Fireworksarealsoconsidereddangerousandprohibited.

Attendance*Attendanceisimportantforstudentsuccessandclasscredit.Studentsaretobeinattendanceforallassignedclassperiodsoftheschoolday.Pleasekeeptheschoolcalendarinmindwhenplanningfamilyvacations,tripsandappointments.Missingover30minutesofablockwillcountasanabsenceforthatblock.

UNEXPECTEDABSENCEWhenunexpectedabsenceisnecessary,parentsaretonotify(phoneore-mail)theschoolofVicepriorto9:00AMstatingthereasonfortheabsence.ThenotiVicationmustincludethespeciVicreasonfortheabsence.Theschoolwilljudgeanabsence"excused"or"unexcused".AstudentwhoarrivesaftertheschooldayhasbegunistoreporttotheschoolofVicebeforegoingtoclass.

ExcusedAbsences:Examplesofreasonsforabsencefromschoolthatareconsideredexcusedabsences: StudentIllness MedicalandDentalAppointments FamilyBereavement Collegevisitspre-plannedandpre-approvedbyLHS Othercausesruledacceptablebytheschool “ParentalPermission”isnotinandofitselfanexcuseforanabsence

Excusedabsencescarrytheprivilegeofmake-upofworkmissedforfullcredit.Arrangementsaremadebythestudentwitheachteacher.Reasonabletimelimitsformake-upworkaredeterminedbyeachteacher,butastudentwillbeallowedatleastonedayformake-upworkforeachdayabsent.

UnexcusedAbsences:Studentswhothroughtheirownactionsareabsentfromscheduledclassesordaysofschool,orwhoseparentselecttopreventthestudentfromattendingschoolwithoutschoolapprovalshallbedeemedunexcused.Studentswhothroughtheirownactionsareabsentfromscheduledclassesordaysofschoolwithouttheparentsknowledgeorconsentareconsideredtruant.Truancyisanunexcusedabsenceandwillresultinfurtherdisciplinaryaction.Astudentwithmissingorlatedailyworkduetoanunexcusedabsencewillreceiveazeroforanyworkcollectedorgradedthatday.Anytestormajorprojectduethedayoftheabsencemustbecompletedonthedayofreturn,withthehighestgradepossiblebeinga60%. EXPECTEDABSENCE/PRE-PLANNEDFortimeswhenparentsknowinadvancethattheirchildwillbeabsentfromschool(eitherexcusedorunexcused),parentsaretonotify(phoneoremail)theschoolofVicenolessthan24hoursinadvanceoftheanticipatedabsence.Studentswillbeissuedapre-plannedabsenceformfromtheofVicewhichwillneedtobesignedbyeachofthechild’steachers,alertingthemtothechild’sabsence.Itistheresponsibilityofthestudenttoobtainthisformandhaveitsignedbyalloftheirteachers.Itisalsotheresponsibilityofthestudenttoinquireaboutandobtainanyworkthatwillbemissedduetotheabsence.

DrugandAlcoholAbuseThepossession,useordistributionofalcohol,drugsofanytype(otherthantakingone'sownprescriptionmedication),ordrugparaphernalia,includingvapingmaterialsandparaphernaliaatschooloratanyschoolsponsoredactivityisstrictlyforbiddenandwillresultinsuspensionorexpulsion.Longtermsuspensionswillalsoresultinsuspensionfromschoolsponsoredactivitiesandorganizations.StudentsrequiringprescriptionmedicationarerequiredtoidentifysucharrangementswiththeschoolasoutlinedintheStudentMedicationsTakenatSchool,sectionoftheStudentLifeHandbook. Inanefforttokeepthecampus"drugfree,"theschooland/orlawenforcementmayadministerabreathalyzertestwhenthereisreasonablesuspicionthatalcoholhasbeenconsumed.Inaddition,thepolicedepartment'scanineunitmayperiodicallycheckthecampusfordrugs-thismayincludelockers,bookbags,andvehicles. Arecommendationmaybemadetotheparents/guardiansofastudentdealingwithasubstanceuseproblemtoseekassessmentorevaluationbyaqualiViedalcohol/drugcounselor,approvedbytheschool,ortoseekcounselingfromthestudent'spastororothersimilarlyqualiViedindividual.Ifanassessmentindicatesneedforfurthertreatmentofthestudent,participationofthestudentinanappropriatetreatmentprogrammaybeaprerequisitetocontinuedenrollmentatLutheranHighSchool.Theschoolreservestherighttorequestperiodicprogressreportsfromtheagencyresponsibleforthetreatment.Randomdrugtestingmayberequiredattheexpenseofthefamilyforastudenttoreturntoschoolafterbeingdisciplinedforsuchoffense.Studentswhopersonallyandvoluntarilyseekhelpforproblemswithdrugsoralcoholmaybeexemptedfromtheaboveproceduresattheoptionoftheschool.

EligibilityStudentsmustbeeligibletopractice,compete,and/orperforminco-curricularactivities.Activitiescoveredbytheeligibilityruleinclude:

1.AllMSHSAAsanctionedinterscholasticactivitiesincluding:allathletics,non-gradedmusicgroups,ScholarBowl,andSpiritSquad.2.Theatre.

3.StudentCouncil-membersthatbecomeineligiblefollowingelection/appointmentwillforfeitthe remainderoftheirtermforwhichtheywereelected/appointed. 4.Robotics.

Tobeeligible,astudentshallhaveearnednolessthan4.0unitsofcredittheprecedingterm(semester)ofattendance.Thatis,astudentmustpasseverycourseintheprecedingterm.

• Thelengthofeligibilityis1term.• EligibilityisdeterminedbyTermgrades.Inthecaseofanincomplete,eligibilitywillbedeterminednolaterthantwoweeksfromthelastdayoftheprecedingterm.

• IneligiblestudentsandtheirparentswillbenotiViedoftheineligibilitystatusnolaterthantheVirstdayofthetermforwhichtheyaredeemedineligible.

• Upto1creditmaybeappliedtothepreviousspringtermwhencreditsareearnedduringthesummer.RequirementsasspelledoutintheMSHSAAhandbookmustbemet.

• Eligibilitymayberemovedbytheschoolfordisciplinaryreasonswithoutregardtoacademicstatus.• Coaches,advisors,andschooladministration,mayestablishadditionalrequirementsforparticipationinschoolsponsoredactivities.

Atmid-term,asindicatedontheschoolcalendar.Allstudentgradeswillbechecked.ThosestudentswhohaveanyF’soraGPAlessthana1.5willbeplacedontheAcademicWatchList.ThosestudentsplacedontheAcademicWatchListwillhavecertainrequirementsthatmustbemet.

EmancipatedStudentsPrioritiesandresponsibilitiesofamarriedoremancipatedstudentaredifferentfromthoseofatraditionalhighschoolstudent.TheseresponsibilitiesmayconVlictwiththeresponsibilitiesofLHSstudentlife.Therefore,LHSreservestherighttodis-enrollordenyenrollmenttothemarriedoremancipatedstudent.Whenastudentturns18yearsofage,continuedenrollmentatLHScarriesthe"impliedconsent"onthepartofthestudentfortheschooltocontinuetoshareallacademicandotherpersonalinformationwithparents/guardians.

FightingStudentsinvolvedinaVightorphysicalassaultwillbesubjecttosuspensionorexpulsion.

LockersAlockermaybeassignedtoastudentforthestorageofbooks,clothing,andothernecessaryschoolitems.Inaddition,studentstakingphysicaleducationclassesand/orwhoparticipateinathleticsmayuseanathleticlocker.Allpersonalitemsbroughttoschoolbyastudentmustbestoredentirelyinhisorherassignedlocker(s).Studentsmuststorebookbagsintheirhalllockerandathleticbagsintheirathleticlocker.Studentbookbagsandathleticbagsarenottobeleftinlobbies,hallways,orclassrooms.STUDENTSARERESPONSIBLEFORLOCKINGTHEIRVALUABLESWITHALOCKinboththehallwaylockersandtheathleticlockerroomlockers.PicturesareallowedonlyontheinsideofthelockerandmustbecompletelyremovedattheendoftheschoolyearoraVinemaybeassessed.Openfoodandbeveragecontainersshouldneverbestoredinlockers.Theneatnessandcleanlinessofthelockeristheresponsibilityofthestudent.Lockersareschoolpropertyandmaybeopenedandexaminedatanytimethereisreasonablecausebytheschooladministration.

RespectStudentsareexpectedtorespecttherightsandindividualityofotherstudents,administration,staff,andguestsandvisitorstocampus.Thisisalsoineffectwhenstudentsorteachersareawayfromschool.Consequencesfordisrespectmayresultindetention,suspension,orexpulsion.

StudentDriversDrivingtoschoolisconsideredtobeaprivilegeandshouldbetreatedassuch.ThespeedlimitontheLHSlot,incompliancewithcitycodes,is15MPH.Carelessorrecklessdrivingonoraroundschoolgroundsmaybecauseforwithdrawalofthisprivilege.Vehiclesoncampusmaybesearchedifthereisreasonablesuspicionthatcontrabanditemsmaybeinthevehicle.StudentsdrivingtoschoolarerequiredtohaveacompletedStudentVehicleRegistrationFormonVileintheofViceandacurrentLHSparkinglotpermittagdisplayedonthebacksideoftherearviewmirroroftheirvehicle.Certainareasaredesignatedforvisitors,facultyandstaff.ParkingislimitedtoareaswithmarkedspacesandspeciVicareasaredesignatedforstudentparking.Studentsarenotallowedtobeintheparkinglotorintheirvehiclesduringtheschoolday.Vehiclesarenottobeusedaslockers.Studentsnotfollowingtheestablishedparkingguidelineswillbesubjecttodisciplinaryactionwhichmayincluderevocationofparkingprivilege.

StudentMedicationsTakenatSchoolLutheranHighSchoolwillstoreanddispensemedicationtostudentsatschoolonlywhentheparentauthorizestheschoolinwriting(completingtheParentAuthorizationforMedicalAdministrationForm)todispensethemedicationwhichisprovidedbytheparent.AllmedicationtobetakenbystudentsduringtheschooldayaretobedeliveredtotheofVicebyparentorstudentuponarrivalatschool.StudentsaretoreporttotheschoolofVicetotakemedicationaccordingtowritteninstructions.AllmedicationmustbetakenintheofVice.TheschoolisnotresponsibletomakesurethestudentcomestotheofViceforhis/hermedication.Studentsarenottokeepmedicationinlockers,purses,carryingbags,orontheirpersonwhileatschool.Nomedicationtobetakeninternallywillbeprovidedbytheschool.BasicVirstaidsuppliesareonhandforstudentuseintheofVice.

StudentRelationshipsandDatingWebelievethatallchildrenareuniquelycreatedandGodhascreatedeachwithaspeciVicgender,geneticallydetermined,andidentiViedatbirth.Webelievethatmarriagemeanstheunitingofonemanandonewomanandsexualintimacyisintendedtooccurwithintheboundsofmarriage.Datingbetweenmaleandfemalestudentsisanappropriateactivityduringastudent’shighschoolexperience.Atschool,handholdingbetweenamaleandafemaleistheonlypublicdisplayofaffection(PDA)consideredappropriate.

StudentSexualActivity/PregnancyLutheranHighSchool,inaccordancewithGod'sWord,andmotivatedbyHislove,promotessexualabstinencebeforemarriage.Iftheschooladministrationbecomesawareastudenthaschosentoengageinpremaritalsexualactivity,LHSwillrequireanapprovedprocessofChristiancounselingtoworkthroughpertinentissues.Inaddition,thechild’spastorwillbecontactedtoprovidespiritualsupportforthechildandfamily.TheChristiancounselingwillberequiredatthestudent'sexpenseinorderforthestudent,maleorfemale,tocontinueenrollmentatLHS.Carewillbetakenthattheyoungmanandwomanwillbetreatedasbearingequalresponsibilityforthepremaritalsexualactivity.Ifthesexualactivityresultsinpregnancy,counselingwouldincludepertinentissuessuchasprenatalhealthcare,socialramiVications,adecisionregardingwhowillparentthebabyafterbirth,adecisionregardingmarriage,etc.Failuretocomplywiththispolicymayresultinsuspensionand/orexpulsionfromschool.

Ifapregnancyoccurs,informationregardingthepregnancymustbesharedwiththeadministration.Initsministrytoyoungpeopleandtheirfamilies,theschoolhasadualresponsibilitytowardboththestudentandthecommongoodoftheschool.Becauseastudentpregnancyisnotthenormandmaybedisruptivetotheeducationalprocess,thecontinuedenrollmentoftheparent(s)-to-bewillbereviewedperiodicallybytheadministrativestaffandthefollowingrestrictionswillbeimplementeduntilsixweeksfollowingthebirthorduedateofthechild.

Thefemalestudentmaynotparticipateinanyschoolrelatedphysicalactivitywhereamotherorchild’shealthisatrisk.Themaleand/orfemalestudentalsomaynotformallyrepresenttheschoolinapublicperformance(athletics,choir,band,drama,etc.)orastudentgovernmentofVice.Thestudent(s)maycontinueotherin-schoolco-curricularandsocialactivitiesaslongass/heisattendingregularclassesandmaintainingappropriatebehavior(i.e.yearbook,schoolnewspaper,ArtClub,TeensforLife,etc.).Theserestrictionsarenotintendedtoserveasapunishment.Theyareimplementedtoprotectthehealthandwelfareoftheparent(s)-to-beandchild,topreventtheimpressionthattheschoolcondonesorapprovesofthesituation,andtodeterotherstudentsfrompromiscuity.

IfastudentisallowedtocontinueenrollmentatLHSandcompletesregulargraduationrequirements,s/hewillreceiveadiplomabutwillnotformallyparticipateingraduationexercisesiftheceremonyoccursduringtheaforementionedtimeperiod.

LHSistotallycommittedtoa“pro-life”,antiabortionphilosophyandpractice.Therefore,abortionisconsideredanunacceptableandinappropriateactionforaLutheranhighschoolstudent.Anystudent,maleorfemale,whoobtainsanabortionorassistsanotherinobtaininganabortionopenshim/herselftothepossibilityofimmediateexpulsionfromschool.Suchcaseswillbehandledonacase-by-casebasisbytheschooladministration.CarewillbetakentoconveytorepentantstudentsthattheatoningbloodofJesuscoversallsins,eventhatofabortion.Whenconsideringthequestionofcontinuedenrollment,however,theadministrationmustalsotakeintoaccounttheimpactofthestudent'sactionsontherestofthestudentbody.

Ifwithdrawalfromschooloccurs,theadministrationwillexplorewaysinwhichtohelpthestudentcontinuehisorhereducation,receiveadiploma,obtainprofessionalandspiritualcounseling,etc.Theadministrationwillalsoworkcloselywiththestudent’spastor,localcrisispregnancycounselors,andotherresources. Thefaculty,staff,administration,andboardofdirectorsarehonorboundtopracticeconVidentialityanddiscretionwhendiscussingdisciplinarymatterspubliclyandprivately.Thisisbornofcareandconcernforourstudents’wellbeingandschoolmorale.Werespectfullyaskstudentsandfamiliesforthesamecourtesy.

Tardies*StudentsarrivinglatetoschoolaretoreporttotheofVicebeforegoingtoclass.Onadaywhenastudentarrivesover20minuteslatetoschool,a"tardy"willberecordedandanabsenceforthatclassperiodwillalsoberecorded.Tardiesarerecordedondailyattendancereport,thereportcardandthestudentpermanentrecordandofVicialtranscripts. Teachersdeveloppoliciesfordealingwithtardiesintheirclasses.Consistenttardinesswillbegroundsforadditionalschooldisciplinaryaction.Studentsareallowed7tardiesperterm.Eightormoretardiesinatermwillresultinadetention.TentardieswillresultinaSaturdaydetentionswitha$45Vine.Furthertardiesbeyond10willresultinadditionalSaturdaydetentions.

TheftandVandalismEveryoneisexpectedtorespectschoolproperty,aswellasthepropertyofothers;andtopracticegoodChristianstewardshiptowardthefacilitiesandequipmentthathavebeenprovided.Ifschoolpropertyorpersonalpropertyisdamagedorlost,restitutionisrequired.Astudentinvolvedintheftorvandalismmaybesubjecttosuspensionand/orexpulsionfromschool.

TobaccoUseLutheranHighSchoolisa"smoke-freezone".Consequently,nosmoking(orvaping)ispermittedinthebuildingoronthegrounds.Inaddition,studentsarenotpermittedtouseorpossesscigarettes,orothertobaccoproducts,includingvapor,“smokeless",ore-cigaretteswhileatschooloratanyschoolsponsoredactivity.Violationofthispolicywillresultinsuspensionfromschool.

UnauthorizedPresenceUnauthorizedpresenceoncampusisprohibited.Studentsareonlyallowedtobeoncampusduringschoolhoursandforschoolsponsoredactivitiesorevents.Individualsfoundtobeinviolationofthispolicyaresubjecttosuspensionorexpulsion.ChargesmayalsobeViledwiththelocalpolicedepartment.
