Medicare Did your Medicare card expire or have you had an addition to the family. If so please let the school know your updated information. There are many families that have expired information. HEAD LICE Have you checked your child’s head for head lice, please be vigilant and check your child’s hair regularly. Please check your child’s hair, treat and remove head lice and nits from the hair. Hair should be checked regularly as the nits and head lice can be persistent. Leaving one nit can continue the cycle.

Treating once does not contain the problem it must be monitored continually.

To break the cycle you must remove the nits (eggs)

from the hair strands.

Primary News Louisa Frost (Assistant Principal) Last week I was lucky enough to attend another writing VCOP professional learning session with the other members of our primary staff. VCOP is a writing program that we have been implementing right across the school. I know many of you even came into our classrooms and participated in activities after our primary assembly last year. One of the main principals behind VCOP is 'if you can't say it, you can't write it'. This is why games are a regular focus of our VCOP sessions because they allow the students to develop their vocab in an interesting way. I have already seen significant progress in our student's writing because of this program and I am excited to be beginning to get the students to use the assessment side of it to help them set personal writing goals in class. I am also excited about the new games we have purchased that will hopefully arrive for the students to use soon. One way you can assist your child to be successful with the program is through the 'Hometalk' element. Before a 'Big Write' the students will bring home a topic to discuss. Taking just 5 minutes to talk through some ideas with your child is a fantastic way to ensure their success in class. Whilst parent teacher interviews won’t operate in the traditional way next week, I look forward to catching up with many of you by phone. In addition to this please don't hesitate to contact the school if there is an issue you would like to discuss.

Year 3/4 Sarah Everall (Class Teacher) It has been such a busy term already and it is flying by! We have been lucky enough to get to participate in golf and cricket as part of the Sporting Schools program, we’ve already had two Writer’s Workshop which were very successful as well as Clean Up Australia Day and school photos. Students in Year 3/4 are very excited to be a part of our very own classroom TV show called Mallee Sunrise. Each week four students present the TV show to the rest of the class. Students look forward each week to watching the show and those presenting enjoy preparing their roles. There are four roles as part of our TV show; a host, a school news reporter, a world news reporter and an interviewer. It is a great opportunity for students to practise their speaking and listening skills.

This week Patience was our host, Ashleigh was our World News Reporter, Lane was the School News Reporter and Lachlan interviewed Cameron.

Secondary News Jean Duma (Head Teacher) Secondary students have now completed their Sporting Schools Cricket activities and I’d like to commend our students on their enthusiasm and engagement with these sessions. A reminder to all students in Years 7-10 that if they are sick or injured and unable to participate in Sport or PE lessons, they must bring a note for that lesson which is signed and dated by the parent/caregiver. If they are unable to participate for an extended period a medical certificate may be required and an alternate Theory Assessment Task will be given. All students in Years 7-12 have been given a session on accessing their student portal, student email, Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams. Students will receive a follow-up email with a reminder of instructions on how to access Google Classroom and Microsoft Teams in the next few days.

Mathematics Darren Rose (Mathematics Teacher) Years 7 and 8 have made a great start to 2020. We have had some enthusiastic class discussions building their understanding of basic numeracy having completed the Computation with Numeracy topic and are currently working on Angle Relationships. Most students in Years 9 and 10 are currently investigating wages and investments in the Financial Mathematics topic with some in Year 10 working on their algebra skills in Linear Relationships. Some assessment tasks are approaching with the Term 1 class tests worth 20% of the Yearly Assessment for all junior years. These have been rescheduled for Week 10 and students should start preparing for these by revising their notes and earlier topics. Year 11 and 12 Standard 1 will have in-class tests in Week 11. Start studying and be prepared. Year 12 Standard 2 Mathematics Melanie Wait (Year 12 Mathematics Teacher) Generally the Year 12 Standard 2 Mathematics class have been working diligently in class and have just received their feedback from their first assessment task. This week the received their second assessment task focused on Non-Right Angled Trigonometry, Linear Relationships and Bi-Variate Data Analysis. We have just started our Bi Variate Data Analysis topic and we have started drawing scatterplots to try and identify relationships.

Careers Kim Morton (Careers Teacher) Next week we have some of our Hospitality students completing their first week of Work Placement. Students have been organised in returning forms and we wish them a successful week consolidating the skills they have been learning at school. The week after students will complete their Metals and Automotive placements. It is important that students speak to their teachers and organise for collection of any missed work. Students must also remember to take their Work Placement Journals with them and to complete these and gather any evidence of competencies being developed. Year 10 students have begun the process in preparing themselves for a Mock Interview and later Work Experience. It is important that students talk at home about possible ideas for this. become. Note: Becoming a qualified teacher in a high-demand subject area would increase your

chances of gaining employment in NSW public schools.
