AS, IB, vocational level 3: • Progression to year 2 is not automatic • Good attendance, academic progress and attitude

to study • Successful completion of assessments • You will already know if there are concerns

PROGRESSION FROM YEAR 1 TO YEAR 2

AS to A2: • AS exams take place 11 May to 5 June (orals and

practicals earlier) • No study leave – classes continue until the last exam • A2 preparation/taster begins 8 June – students should

attend all classes. Must achieve at least 3 E grades to be able to continue (maths has specific requirements)

• Most students take 3 subjects at A2 • College does not offer any repeat/restart of the year

(unless there are exceptional circumstances)

Vocational L3: • Progression to Extended Diploma • Expectation to achieve all assessments and successfully

complete year 1 qualification • Progression will need approval of Curriculum Manager IB: • Two year programme • End of year assessments/internal exams – results of

these can go towards determining progression • Results of these go towards the predict final grades

Reasons for progressing to Higher Education include: • A real interest in the chosen subject • In order to attain qualifications needed for a particular profession

or career • To gain more earning potential with a degree • The opportunity to include a work placement, or a period of

IMPORTANT DATES AND DEADLINES Tuesday 21st April:

Higher Education Fair September 2015: All students planning to go to university need to produce a draft of their personal statement the first week back in Sep. Friday September 25: College deadline for Medicine College deadline for Oxbridge Friday November 13: College deadline for UCAS applications (to guarantee applications will be sent off in time for UCAS deadline) * For any student who completes the whole application before the deadline, the tutor will send it off within two weeks (providing there is nothing to be amended)

Higher Apprenticeships Cgi It Uk Ltd IT Apprentice Higher IT Apprenticeship At the end of the apprenticeship apprentices have the opportunity to gain a full BA (Hons) in either Business Management or IT with Business Management as part of a Sponsored Degree Programme. Entry requirements: A minimum of five A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent), including English and Maths PLUS 300 UCAS points across three A-Levels at grade C or above (or equivalent).

Case study from RUTC

Amber – left RUTC last year with 4 A levels in physics, Spanish, maths, and music which she achieved with high grades.

She successfully applied for an apprenticeship with the BBC on their Technology Apprenticeship scheme; they had over 1000 applicants for 20 places.

As part of the three year Higher Apprenticeship programme, Amber will complete work placements with the BBC and other media companies, while studying towards a degree in Broadcast Engineering whilst being paid £11,500 annual salary.

The Careers Centre has information about Apprenticeships and School leaver programmes and Careers Advisors are available to assist students with their applications Help and advice is also available for students wanting to take a gap year, to volunteer or to work abroad For students who want to go straight into employment and don't want to undertake further study at the moment, again Careers Advisors can help and advise about how to apply for a job
