Week: 3 1. How did you spend your time this week? What responsibilities did you have?

This week was my second full week teaching bell to bell and I feel like I was really in my groove this week. Many of my classes were doing their formal assessments in their classes. Some of them included a quiz that they took or another one was a project about propaganda and the third was writing a letter. I enjoy all of the classes and even though there are some challenges, which I will talk about in the next section, I think that everything is still going very well. 2. What were your most satisfying experiences? What were your most challenging experiences?

I think the most satisfying time was being able to spend time talking to my cooperating teacher about how to make learning objectives for content and language. Before this placement, I had not been in an Ell classroom and had only been in the classes at Drake. Even though we reviewed the SIOP learning objectives in one of my classes, it had been a while since I had revisited the information. I was then able to come in the next day with the learning objectives written down and put them on the board. She went over them with me and even said that they were how they should be.

My most challenging experiences would have been catching three of my students cheating during their quiz. In school it is talked about that this will occur at some point and that you should have a way to go about it, but I was not prepared for it to happen so quickly and with the people that it did. I think even though it was challenging I handled it in the best way that I could. 3. What are the plans for the upcoming week?

This week we plan to continue on with the units for all of the levels and delving deeper into the themes that are presented in each unit. In the other English classes we are going to look more at stereotypes and how they affect our everyday lives as well as beginning to start Romeo and Juliet. This week I am adding the final class into my schedule, which is Rails Time so I will definitely be reflecting on that next week.
